    Phenomenal staff and homey environment

I'm very happy we chose Haven Wood. The staff are phenomenal - genuinely caring and attentive to my dad's preferences (favorite meals, how his room's arranged, even tea with medicine), kept our family informed, and went above and beyond (staff came in on their day off); the apartment, grounds, meals and activities are lovely and the atmosphere feels homey and safe.

    Summary of reviews

Havenwood of Minnetonka elicits strongly mixed impressions. Families and residents frequently praise the facility’s physical environment, dining, and moments of highly attentive caregiving: clean, well-appointed apartments and common areas, an outdoor patio, and a welcoming move-in experience are consistent positives. The dining program and kitchen staff receive repeated praise for meal quality, variety, and accommodating special requests. The community also offers a continuum of care (independent through memory care) and a Parkinson’s-specific program, which some families found especially valuable.

Care quality and staff behavior are the most polarized areas. Many reviewers describe compassionate, personalized interactions—staff who remember resident preferences, provide emotional warmth, and in some cases go beyond expectations to support families. At the same time, a pattern of high staff turnover and apparent staffing shortages was frequently noted. Those operational issues are linked to inconsistent performance: delayed responses to call buttons, uneven supervision, and variability in personal-care and toileting assistance. Several families expressed concerns about sanitation and incontinence-care processes when staffing is limited.

Clinical operations show mixed reliability. There are multiple references to inconsistent medication administration and late medication delivery, along with limited overnight clinical coverage. These issues combine with reports of uneven staff training, particularly in routine personal-care tasks and memory-care communication. Conversely, when staffing and leadership align, staff responsiveness and specialty programs (for example, Parkinson’s care) are cited as strengths.

Communication and management are recurring concerns. Reviewers describe inconsistent family updates, difficulty communicating with memory-care staff, and slow responsiveness from management on care or billing concerns. There are also criticisms about fee transparency and lease policies—including nonrefundable community fees and additional charges—which have undermined trust for some families. A small number of reviews reference an assertive leasing approach and rigid contract terms; leadership turnover and a period of managerial transition appear to have contributed to variability in operations and follow-through.

Activities and social life receive mixed comments. Some residents enjoy plentiful activities, social interactions, and the welcoming atmosphere; others note limited frequency of organized events and a reliance on passive entertainment when staff engagement is low. Facility cleanliness and the built environment are generally viewed positively, but sanitation and personal-care execution are areas to evaluate during a visit.

What stands out is the facility’s potential when staffing, training, and management practices are functioning well: warm, individualized care, strong dining, and useful specialty programs. Prospective residents and families should verify current staffing ratios, overnight clinical coverage, medication-administration protocols, training standards for memory care, and full lease/fee disclosures. Visiting during different shifts and speaking with current families about recent leadership changes can help assess whether the operational concerns cited remain active or are being addressed.

    About Havenwood of Minnetonka

Havenwood of Minnetonka sits in a multi-story building with a friendly community feel, where the care staff gets to know each resident and helps them in a kind and respectful way, and you can always see people chatting in the common areas or enjoying the outdoor patios, and there are always activities going on, whether it's something cultural, educational, or just plain fun. The facility offers a full range of care options-Independent Living, Assisted Living, Enhanced Assisted Living, and Memory Care-so someone who lives here can move between different levels of care as their health and needs change, and the staff makes sure each resident has a personalized care plan, whether they're living independently, need a little extra support with daily tasks, or need a secure, supportive setting for dementia or Alzheimer's disease. The apartments are spacious and pet-friendly, with choices that range from studios to two bedrooms, and independent living apartments come with full kitchens, open floor plans, and plenty of storage, while assisted and enhanced assisted living suites give more purpose-built help and easy access to services and activities, and couples with different needs can even stay together on the same campus. The memory care program focuses on residents' abilities and provides safe surroundings and activities that support dignity, and there's respite care as well, so caregivers can take a break when they need to. Residents here don't have to worry about home maintenance, as everything from meal preparation to housekeeping is taken care of, and they get access to skilled professionals who help with things like medication and health checks, which gives families peace of mind. There's a wide variety of social, educational, and wellness programs each day, which helps people stay active, meet friends, and enjoy a sense of community, and you'll find most folks say the staff is caring and does their best, even though there have been times when keeping enough staff has been a challenge. Havenwood is managed by Life Care Services®, has secure billing and information online for residents and families, and offers its lifestyle at three locations-Minnetonka, Richfield, and Burnsville-but the Minnetonka community stands out for its beautiful spaces, modern amenities, and a warm, neighborhood feel that makes it easy to call home.
