    Caring staff but fatal neglect

I loved the small, homey, clean feel - friendly, caring staff, good food, and a new administrator who truly cares and gives personalized attention. But my aunt Peggy died from malnutrition and dehydration after staff failed to provide meals/water and showed clear negligence; my mother was hospitalized afterward. Despite some strong bereavement support and caring moments, I cannot recommend this facility.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is predominantly positive: reviewers frequently describe Aladdin Assisted Living (Brush) as a small, home-like, and comfortable setting with a close-knit staff that provides personalized attention. Multiple comments emphasize a warm, non-corporate atmosphere where staff members are caring and friendly. The facility is repeatedly described as clean and safe, and several reviewers specifically praise the food as "great." Management and administration receive positive attention as well — a new administrator and specific staff members (e.g., Deborah) are mentioned as engaged, compassionate, and attentive to residents. Reviewers also note strong bereavement support and an overall sense that residents feel at home there.

However, these generally positive impressions are counterbalanced by one extremely serious negative account. A reviewer alleges that their aunt died due to malnutrition and dehydration and describes neglectful behavior by staff, including failing to provide meals, food, and water, and caregiver incompetence (such as improper use of a thermometer). That same reviewer reports that the mother was hospitalized after the aunt's death and explicitly states they do not recommend the facility. This allegation is a major outlier relative to the other reviews but is nonetheless a critical concern because of its severity and implications for resident safety and basic care practices.

Staffing and management themes are mixed but largely favorable. Many reviewers praise staff for being caring, friendly, and providing personalized attention, and they highlight the small, homey environment as contributing to better resident-staff relationships. Positive references to a "fantastic new administrator" and to specific staff involvement suggest that leadership is visible and personally involved in residents' lives. The facility's non-corporate orientation is seen as a strength by reviewers who prefer a more intimate, family-like setting. At the same time, the existence of the serious neglect allegation suggests there may be variability in staff competence or adherence to procedures; though most reviews are positive, this inconsistency should be noted when evaluating overall quality.

Dining and basic care are two areas with mixed feedback. Several reviewers praise the food and describe it as great, while others call the menu merely "ok." Most accounts indicate residents are well cared for at mealtime, but the grave allegation about withheld meals and hydration in one review directly contradicts that. This disparity points to either an isolated but severe failure or variability in care experiences between residents. Prospective families may want to clarify typical dining routines, hydration protocols, menu variety, and how the facility documents and monitors meal and fluid intake.

Facilities and atmosphere receive consistent praise: "small but homey," "comfortable feel," "unique and caring atmosphere," and comments stressing cleanliness recur across summaries. Reviewers frequently note that the environment feels safe and that the facility provides a homelike alternative to larger, corporate nearby options. The small scale is repeatedly framed as a benefit, contributing to personalized attention and close relationships between staff and residents.

In conclusion, the reviews paint a picture of a largely well-regarded small assisted living with notable strengths in atmosphere, cleanliness, individualized care, and engaged management. At the same time, the presence of a single, highly serious allegation of neglect resulting in death is a stark outlier that cannot be ignored. It introduces concern about potential lapses in basic care and staff competency. The most accurate characterization based on these reviews is: generally positive and home-like with strong personal attention and leadership, but with at least one report alleging critical failures in basic care. Families and decision-makers should weigh the generally favorable pattern against the severity of that negative report and consider asking the facility for documentation about staffing, training, incident history, nutrition/hydration protocols, and how management responded to any serious incidents.

    About Aladdin Assisted Living

Aladdin Assisted Living has independent and assisted living options with private apartments and wide hallways that don't have any steps, which makes it easier for folks who have a hard time getting around, and the rooms have individually-controlled heating and air conditioning so everyone can stay comfortable, and they've got cable TV and phone hookups, computer access, and paid utilities included in rent, and you'll find smoke alarms, sprinkler systems, and 24-hour staff supervision for safety and peace of mind. Residents can choose single-family homes, condos, mobile homes, or apartment-style spaces, and the place is designed for active seniors, often with age limits of 55 or 62 and up, and some areas are pet-friendly, though there are places where pets aren't allowed. Aladdin Assisted Living has on-site meal programs, so folks get up to three home-cooked meals a day in a nice dining room, along with snacks throughout the day, and they do housekeeping, laundry, and linen services too, so chores are taken care of, and there's help with appointments, transportation, and getting in-home care if it's needed. They develop individualized care plans, offering help with bathing, dressing, grooming, or getting around, and staff provides medication reminders, incontinence care, non-ambulatory care, and more, plus memory care for folks dealing with Alzheimer's or dementia. Social activities happen both on-site and off-site, with trips, games, and faith-based gatherings, and family and friends are welcome to join meals and events. The facility is set up to be accessible for wheelchairs, including bathrooms with walk-in showers and tubs, and there's resident parking and complimentary transportation. Amenities also include beautician services and comfortable indoor and outdoor common areas where people can gather or relax. Aladdin Assisted Living is state-licensed, number 2301IS, and the cost structure asks for a $500 entry fee plus half a month's rent, with different amenities included in the base rent while some services might cost extra, plus there are all-inclusive options. They'll work with federal and state programs like Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security Disability, and caregiver support for eligible residents, especially helpful for those with higher care needs, as Alzheimer's care typically costs more. Aladdin Assisted Living provides respite care for short stays, and the environment is described as warm and attentive, with staff available day and night, so seniors can have a more relaxed, hassle-free lifestyle without worrying about daily chores or safety, whether they need a little help or more regular care.
