    Happy resident praises caring staff

I live here and I'm happy - the staff are caring, knowledgeable and go above and beyond (Scott and several CNAs stood out), the building is clean, active, and well-maintained with good dining, programs and amenities. A few people report small apartments and occasional staffing/cleanliness or management issues, so tour carefully before deciding.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: Reviews for Moraine Court Supportive Living are strongly mixed, with a large number of very positive comments centered on staff, community life, and activities, but also a set of serious and recurring negative allegations related to cleanliness, safety, staffing, and management. Many reviewers highlight exceptional individual employees and teams who provided compassionate, patient, and above-and-beyond service, while other reviewers report instances of neglect, safety lapses, and even potential abuse/exploitation. The result is a polarized picture: for some families it is a warm, active, and well-run assisted living community, and for others it is an unsafe or poorly managed environment.

Staff and care quality: One of the clearest and most frequent positive themes is praise for staff. Numerous reviews call out friendly, welcoming, respectful, and empathetic staff across roles (front desk, CNAs, nurses, admissions and maintenance). Several employees are named repeatedly (Scott, LaRae, Christy, Samantha, Anna, Lakeisha, Anne P, Robert) and are described as going "above and beyond," making admissions and transitions smooth, and providing strong daily support. Reviewers often describe a family-like atmosphere, compassion, and responsiveness. On the other hand, there are stark counterexamples in the dataset: allegations of rude or unprofessional staff, refusal of medications, lost pills, delayed call-button responses, falls with slow response, bedsores, weight loss, and claims of medically negligent care. Staffing instability is frequently noted (high turnover, understaffing), which reviewers link to inconsistent care quality.

Facilities and amenities: Many reviews praise the physical environment: clean common areas, pleasant lobby and reception areas, nice dining room, shaded outdoor seating, ample parking, functioning elevators, and a variety of social spaces (pool room, game tables, party room, beauty shop, exercise room, on-site store). Apartments are described variably — several reviewers like their rooms (large rooms with recliner, window, partial kitchen, walk-in tub, balcony, spacious bathroom), while others call units small, dark, or in need of updates and paint. Some reviewers explicitly note that the first floor and public spaces are well-designed and elegant, whereas private apartments can appear older. Maintenance response and housekeeping are cited positively in many accounts.

Dining and activities: The community's dining program and activities are a frequently repeated strength. Multiple reviewers praise the dining staff and chef (again Scott is singled out), call the dining room pleasant and the meals good, and describe a robust calendar of activities including bingo, movies, speaker programs, social clubs, men's and women's groups, and organized outings. The activity program is characterized as exceptional by several families and observers, contributing strongly to residents' social engagement and sense of home.

Serious safety, cleanliness, and management concerns: Interspersed with positive experiences are very serious allegations that cannot be ignored. Multiple reviewers report bed bug infestations, dirty or urine-smelling hallways, dirty sheets, and residents found in poor condition. Some reviews allege financial exploitation (taking allowances, food/link cards), unauthorized entry into units, and staff credential misrepresentation. There are reports of filed complaints with the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and at least one pending investigation mentioned. These are significant red flags that indicate possible lapses in infection control, resident rights protections, and corporate oversight for some parts of the operation. Several reviewers urged others to avoid the facility, citing these failures.

Patterns and variability: The reviews show clear variability in experience. Many residents and families report excellent care, a friendly community, and clean, well-run common spaces; others report severe issues with cleanliness, safety, and honesty. This split suggests uneven performance that may reflect variable staffing, management inconsistencies across shifts or units, or changes over time. Positive reviews often emphasize individual staff members who made a difference; negative reviews point to structural problems (turnover, understaffing, management decisions) that lead to inconsistent resident experiences.

What prospective families should note: Given the mixed and sometimes contradictory feedback, prospective residents and families should perform targeted checks during a visit. Ask about recent IDPH inspection results and any complaint history; request documentation or transparent answers regarding pest control and infection prevention; ask for staffing ratios, turnover rates, and how the community handles medication management and incident reporting. Verify financial policies in writing (community fees, resident allowances, and safeguards against exploitation). Observe multiple times of day if possible (mealtimes, evenings, weekends) to gauge consistency, cleanliness, and staff responsiveness. If memory-care or higher medical needs are anticipated, clarify 24/7 coverage, nurse availability, and how transitions to memory care are handled.

Bottom line: Moraine Court receives strong praise from many families for staff compassion, social programming, and public-area cleanliness; however, the presence of multiple serious allegations (bed bugs, neglect, financial exploitation, IDPH complaints) creates meaningful risk and warrants careful on-site investigation. Experiences appear highly dependent on specific staff members, shifts, or apartments. Families should weigh the many positive personal accounts of caring staff and engaging activities against the reported safety and hygiene incidents, and confirm current status and remediation steps directly with management before deciding.

    About Moraine Court Supportive Living

Moraine Court Supportive Living sits as a senior living community where folks find both comfort and the help they've come to need, and it's got a mix of apartment styles, with studios, companion suites, and alcoves for different preferences, all with kitchenettes and cable TV, and you'll see there's a chapel and country store, a beauty and barber shop, a library, patio, and landscaped courtyard, so people can sit and enjoy the sun or some quiet. Residents get three meals a day, served in a recently renovated dining area, and there're always snacks around, and laundry and housekeeping get done every week, which is a relief for most. The place is kept very clean-families and residents say this often-and there's a nurse present part time with licensed staff, personal care assistants, and Certified Nursing Assistants available around the clock, so help's always nearby if someone's feeling off or needs extra support, even in the night.

There are therapy and rehab services here, too, like speech, physical, and occupational therapy, along with memory care for Alzheimer's and dementia, and more advanced needs like tracheostomy or wound care are supported right here, so a resident doesn't always have to leave for regular help. Medication management, reminders, and supervision happen daily, and the staff works with on-site doctors, podiatrists, and even dentists and a pharmacy, which makes getting care easier. Residents who like to keep active have plenty to do with arts and crafts, music, movies, tabletop games, and social events arranged by an Activity Director, who keeps a full daily schedule seven days a week, and there are group outings for those who want to get out and about now and then, with scheduled trips to shop or even just enjoy some entertainment elsewhere. Pets are allowed, which makes a big difference for some, and residents can join devotionals or worship services, and there's a chapel right on campus.

Moraine Court Supportive Living is set up for assisted living, independent living, respite care, and supportive living, which means it handles folks who want to keep as much independence as possible but need a place where support's available when needed, so people get help with things like bathing, dressing, hygiene, housekeeping, and meals, but they're encouraged to join activities, build friendships, and mostly keep up with life as they know it. Wheelchair accessible showers, no smoking indoors, and guest parking help make life a little easier, and there's grocery shopping service, medication reminders, and transportation for shopping or medical appointments. The community includes both smaller and larger apartments, and the grounds offer a pleasant spot for walking or gathering with others. Residents say the staff is kind, compassionate, and treats people with respect and empathy, which adds to a feeling of family, and the Illinois Supportive Living Program helps many people afford to stay, with payment types including private pay, Medicaid, long-term care insurance, and Veterans Aid & Assistance, though there is a $2,500 entry fee to consider.

The place tries to keep things engaging by hosting events, parties, and entertainment, plus they run a program aimed at keeping everyone included and active, and they pay attention to personal care through individualized plans, so someone who's new or needs different support won't feel left out. If someone's just looking for a short stay, they offer respite care, making it an option for families who need a little help in a pinch, and personal care assistants make sure essential needs, like medication and hygiene, are covered kindly. All in all, Moraine Court Supportive Living provides a straightforward, clean, and attentive spot for seniors looking for community, safety, and steady support, without making anything too fancy or complicated.
