    Beautifully remodeled clean welcoming community

I toured and was highly impressed-beautifully remodeled, spotlessly clean, and welcoming. The dining is excellent, activities (Selena, Crystal, Natasha and team) are fun and engaging, and staff and leadership are caring and responsive. Great amenities and a home-like, supportive atmosphere-I'd recommend this community.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Feedback is largely positive about day-to-day life at Eden Supportive Living, with repeated praise for frontline caregiving, activities, and dining teams. Many comments highlight a warm, home-like atmosphere, well-maintained and tastefully decorated common spaces, and a robust calendar of social and recreational programming that includes theater showings, pool table and game spaces, exercise areas, guitar lessons, and frequent off-site trips.

Care quality and staff: Caregivers, CNAs, wellness directors, and front-desk staff are frequently described as kind, patient, and attentive. Multiple staff members and directors are singled out by name for proactive engagement, individualized attention, and willingness to help with day-to-day needs. Praise centers on respectful interactions, timely assistance with activities of daily living, and staff who go beyond routine duties to support residents’ social and administrative needs.

Dining: Dining is a consistent strength. Reviewers describe restaurant-style service, hot meals served on schedule, and a kitchen team that receives repeated praise. While overall meal quality is described as good to excellent, a number of comments note limited variety and occasional menu repetition; prospective residents may wish to ask about menu rotation and accommodations for dietary preferences.

Activities and social life: The activities program is a standout area. Coordinators are frequently described as energetic, creative, and able to deliver both in-person group events and apartment-delivered programming. Offerings extend beyond on-site classes to organized outings and outdoor activities, which contribute to resident engagement and quality of life.

Facilities and location: The building offers a broad set of amenities—theater room, library, exercise areas, multiple common rooms—and is located near public transportation and local attractions. Interiors are described as clean and well kept, with tasteful furnishings and recent renovations in public areas. Unit-level notes include private bathrooms and adequate storage, but apartments are generally characterized as small and the campus lacks substantial private outdoor space. Onsite parking is limited.

Management, admissions, and operational concerns: While many reviewers praise specific leaders and point to visible, caring management, there is notable variability in administrative experience. Some accounts describe a smooth, helpful admissions and move-in process; others describe a difficult admissions experience and complex financial intake. There are also serious allegations concerning theft and financial mishandling and reports of delayed or inadequate communication following incidents, including concerns after a resident’s death. These matters suggest potential gaps in financial controls, incident-response procedures, and family communication practices.

Safety and other operational patterns: The facility is generally described as secure and in a safe neighborhood, though isolated concerns were raised about traffic and safety around the property and about roommate compatibility in shared living arrangements. Prospective residents and families should ask about roommate selection procedures, onsite traffic and parking policies, insurance/payment acceptance, and the facility’s incident-reporting and escalation protocols.

Bottom line: Eden Supportive Living presents many clear operational strengths—compassionate caregiving staff, a strong activities program, good dining service, and well-maintained common areas in a transit-accessible location. However, the facility also shows several operational weaknesses that merit direct inquiry: unit size and outdoor-space limitations, parking constraints, variability in administrative responsiveness, menu variety, roommate matching, and significant concerns around financial controls and incident communication. Prospective residents should schedule a detailed tour, meet caregiving and administrative staff, review the admissions and financial policies, and ask for written protocols on incident response and resident finances before making a decision.

    About Eden Supportive Living

Eden Supportive Living, founded in 2003, aims to improve quality of life by creating living spaces that are accessible and welcoming, with a special focus on people with disabilities, being the first facility of its kind in the country. With several locations including Eden North Chicago, South Shore Chicago, Fox Valley, and Champaign, this community welcomes adults aged 22 and older who need medium care and want to live as independently as possible while still having help close by. Residents find apartments designed for accessibility, including studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units, with wheelchair accessible showers, roll-in showers, grab bars, and adaptive features in modern kitchens like a flame-free stovetop and ¾ size refrigerator, which really helps those managing different physical challenges like Multiple Sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke aftercare, and amputation. The care staff includes licensed nurses and certified nurse assistants, working under a licensed RN, and they're specially trained in sensitivity to support people with various disabilities and make the atmosphere welcoming for everyone.

At Eden Supportive Living, there's a full-service clinic onsite that provides things like blood work, EKGs, immunizations, and medication management, along with an emergency call response in every apartment, so help's available anytime, day or night. The dining room is a gathering spot offering three well-balanced meals daily, including vegetarian options, and snacks at the snack bar for whenever hunger strikes. The restaurant serves meals seven days a week, and residents eat together in a shared community dining room that adds to the homey feel. Social and life-skills programs are scheduled for both residents and their families, monthly wellness programs come from a licensed nurse, and there are many activities to promote movement and social connection. A big draw for many is the Hartwell House, an assisted living residence on-site that offers 24-hour care and supervision.

Amenities and comforts are a big part of daily life, so besides the usual weekly housekeeping and linen service, laundry facilities are complimentary if residents want to do their own clothes, and there are plenty of places to unwind, like the community stone fireplace, the grand piano area, a pool table, a game room for parties, a library, a computer center with free Wi-Fi, a TV and living room, a big-screen movie theatre with surround sound and even a Nintendo Wii, and an adaptive fitness center that's set up especially for people with physical challenges.

Eden Supportive Living makes transportation easier by being near a busline, has beautician services on-site, and takes extra steps with things like diabetic care, incontinence care, non-ambulatory assistance, and separate memory care for those who need it. The staff at the front desk help schedule doctor visits, and a resident office center adds to the support for those managing their own needs. Each apartment comes with wall-to-wall carpeting, individually controlled heating and air conditioning, private telephones, mailboxes, voice mail, and cable television, which gives residents a sense of privacy and comfort.

Support and rehabilitation services are available, including physical and occupational therapy, as well as options for respite care, dementia, and Alzheimer's disease programs. Eden's management, led by an Executive Director, oversees a staff of 201-500 employees who support a community centered on hospitality, love, dignity, independence, and individual choices. The team runs monthly programs for wellness, educational and recreational activities, and works to increase public awareness about living with disabilities, with all services tailored to each resident's preferences, needs, and dreams. Eden Supportive Living holds a reported 4.8 rating from 116 reviews, showing that many have had a good experience there over the years.
