    Caring staff but maintenance concerns

I toured/lived here and found caring, informative staff, CNAs on site, a nurse 7am-7pm, frequent check-ins, therapy progress, lots of activities (Wii bowling, bingo, movies, chef nights, weekly outings), on-site hair/nails, and comfortable, roomy studios/1-beds with weekly cleaning and free laundry/light housekeeping. Meals are usually good with choices and family-style service; dining staff are attentive. That said, cleanliness and maintenance can be inconsistent (smelly rugs, shower/floor issues, broken dryer, phone/van problems), food shortages/menu cuts have happened, weekend leadership and responsiveness from management can be weak, and there have been serious staff complaints/investigations. Overall: pleasant, activity-rich, and generally caring - but weigh the maintenance and management concerns before deciding.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the review summaries is mixed but leans toward generally positive in terms of atmosphere, amenities, and resident activities, with notable and recurring concerns about management responsiveness, dining consistency, and some care/cleanliness issues. Many reviewers praise the staff as professional, caring, and friendly, specifically noting helpful admissions personnel, CNAs who visit frequently, and a nursing presence (examples mention a nurse on site from 7am–7pm). Several family members and residents described the facility as clean, welcoming, and safe, with comfortable, spacious studio or one-bedroom apartments and ample closet space. On-site conveniences such as a hair stylist and nail care, routine medication administration (twice daily), weekly room cleaning, light housekeeping, and laundry services are reported as valuable offerings that enhance resident quality of life. The location near local points of interest (Wrigley Field) and opportunities for socialization are also repeatedly highlighted.

Dining and activities are central positive themes but with contradictory reports. A number of reviewers enjoy the food, citing good meals, family-style dining, meal choices, cooking activities with a chef, and frequent social dining opportunities. The facility also appears to offer a broad and consistent activities program — Wii bowling, bingo, cards, morning exercise, nightly movies, Greenview games, and scheduled outings are cited often — and many residents appear engaged and happy with the social calendar. At the same time, other reviewers report serious issues with dining: persistent food shortages, reduced menu variety with former items removed, and at least some people calling the food "horrible". These conflicting reports suggest variability in dining experiences that may depend on timing, staffing, or management decisions.

Care quality and staffing present a mixed picture. Several reviews commend CNAs and nurses for attentive, frequent visits and hands-on care, and some families observed measurable therapy progress. Maintenance staff are described as accommodating in multiple accounts. Conversely, there are recurring complaints about inconsistent cleanliness (smelly rugs, areas not regularly cleaned), slow responsiveness to calls or requests, and periods where assistance was hard to obtain. A few reviewers explicitly felt the level of hands-on care was less than expected for an assisted living environment. More seriously, there are multiple allegations of staff mistreatment — including a named employee accused of physical contact with a resident — that were reportedly escalated to the ombudsman and health department. Management responses to such complaints are described by some reviewers as defensive or dismissive, and multiple accounts say formal complaints were ignored or not satisfactorily resolved.

Operational and management concerns form a prominent and recurring theme. Several reviewers describe leadership gaps, especially on weekends, inconsistent enforcement of policies, and a perceived lack of empowerment among staff. Communication problems are noted: a phone system reportedly stopped working for residents or families, callbacks are slow or absent, and some complaints appear not to be acted upon. Practical operational issues are also raised — the van not running for store trips, only one dryer functioning for extended periods, and shower floors improperly installed leading to water pooling — pointing to maintenance or capital issues that affect daily life. Some family members characterize management as money-driven or unresponsive, while others praise individual staff members who are helpful and informative (notably Susan Doyle and some tour guides), illustrating a split between frontline staff experiences and broader administrative practices.

Patterns and takeaways: The Pointe at Greenview offers many strong features valued by residents and families: welcoming apartments, a range of on-site services, robust activity programming, and staff members who (in many reports) provide caring and helpful personal interactions. However, the facility shows clear variability in execution and consistency — especially in dining, cleanliness, administrative responsiveness, and weekend leadership — and there are serious safety/abuse-related allegations raised by reviewers that necessitate attention. Prospective residents and families should weigh the strong social and service offerings and positive staff interactions against the documented operational shortcomings and the reported incidents. Where possible, visitors should ask targeted questions about recent staffing patterns, weekend coverage, dining plans and shortages, laundry functionality, maintenance fixes to showers/rugs, policies for reporting and resolving complaints, and any outcomes of investigations raised with oversight agencies to better assess current conditions and any improvements since the published reviews.

About The Pointe at Greenview (formerly Renaissance Realty Group, Inc)

The Pointe at Greenview, which used to go by Renaissance Realty Group, Inc, sits in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood on the Lakeview Senior Campus, and offers senior housing with over a decade of experience in building and managing living spaces for older adults, and what sets the place apart is how it mixes assisted living, memory care, and supportive living programs, including affordable homes for people with limited incomes, and there are studio and one-bedroom apartments so a person can choose what suits them, and everything's built to support everyday life with help available at all hours, and they do things like assist with bathing, dressing, and getting around, and their staff helps manage medicine and meals-cooking up homemade options, even for special diets like diabetes.

Located in Greenview Place, the building itself has thoughtful architecture and finishes that make things comfortable and safe, and there are emergency call systems, secure areas for those who need memory care for Alzheimer's or dementia, and various places to spend time like the huge rooftop terrace, community gardens, and fitness centers, along with spaces for recreation and activities, and the place hosts events with temporary stages, video walls, and is even known for having murals made by artists on the ceilings for a touch of color in daily life.

Residents can join in all sorts of programs, social activities, and even get respite care, which gives caregivers a short break, and the staff provides wellness support every day of the week, with access to healthcare and help coordinating with providers when problems come up, and for bigger projects, the company also does things like residential development, mixed-use towers, and has managed office conversions, retail areas on the ground floor, and living spaces above, so they know a fair bit about how buildings work for community life.

They use specific names for parts of the community and units, like North Town Village, Glen Lake No. 1 Condo Assoc., State Place Condominium Assoc., plus Lake Shore Hospitality Inc, Waldorf Astoria Hotel, and The Sexton Condominium since the company's also worked on condominiums, co-ops, K-12 schools, and hotels; they manage amenities and services through teams like the property manager, association board president, and authorized agent, making sure things like cleaning, laundry, and maintenance get handled.

The Pointe at Greenview's got a supportive living program where some costs can be covered by the State of Illinois, so seniors with different needs can find help, and there's a focus on making sure people stay active, safe, and connected, with meal preparation, medication management, personal care, and spaces for both quiet and group activities, and everything ties back to their long history and involvement in urban planning and residential development, letting them offer a mix of care, comfort, and community that fits many types of older adults.
