    Great caregivers but poor management

I have mixed feelings about Winston Manor. I love the caregiving team-kind, professional, genuinely caring CNAs (Sherise and V), quick maintenance, and a homelike, supportive atmosphere-but the building is outdated, there's been smoking in the dining room, the food needs more variety/seasoning, and the office/administration is often rude, unhelpful, and poorly run. Because of excellent frontline care but serious management and facility problems, I can't fully recommend it.

    Summary review

The review set for Winston Manor shows a pronounced split between very positive and very negative resident and family experiences. Many reviewers emphasize the excellence of direct care: kindness, warmth, compassion, and professionalism among CNAs and caregiving staff recur across multiple comments. Several notes praise staff pride, dedication, and person-centered care, and specific individuals (CNAs Sherise and V) receive direct commendation. Numerous reviewers say residents feel safe, supported, and at home, describing the atmosphere as homelike and hopeful. Quick maintenance response and at least one recent tangible improvement (a brand-new curtain divider) are cited as evidence of responsive operations in certain areas. Some residents explicitly state they love living at Winston Manor and enjoy the food, and others report an outstanding transition experience with attentive, considerate staff.

Counterbalancing these positive reports are consistent criticisms focused primarily on administrative and nonclinical customer service. Multiple reviewers report rude, unhelpful, or unprofessional behavior from office and front-desk staff, including a receptionist described as rude and frequent long hold times when calling. Several comments call administration poorly run or horrible and urge others to avoid the facility. These complaints extend to perceptions of staff knowledge and behavior in some instances—reports of staff lacking necessary information, disrespectful conduct, and inconsistent competence across shifts create a narrative of variability in service quality.

Dining and facility condition are mixed themes. Some residents praise the dining experience, while others specifically request improvements: better food quality, a wider variety of menu options, and clearer labeling for seasonings or allergens. There is also a safety and comfort concern flagged by multiple reviewers about smoking inside the facility and even in the dining room—this issue stands out because it directly affects resident well-being and the dining environment. Physically, reviewers note a combination of recent improvements (quick fixes, new curtain divider) alongside descriptions of outdated facilities in places, suggesting uneven capital/upkeep priorities or phased updates.

A notable pattern is the dichotomy between strong direct-care performance and weaker administrative/customer-service functions. Direct caregivers are frequently described as compassionate, person-centered, and attentive; management is sometimes praised for listening and making things happen for residents. Meanwhile, the office staff and higher-level administration are the subject of the harshest criticism—this separation suggests that resident-facing clinical staff may be keeping daily life positive despite operational or leadership shortcomings. Another pattern is polarization of reviewer sentiment: some reviewers provide glowing endorsements (love living there, outstanding staff), while others give very poor ratings and strong warnings to avoid the facility. This polarization points to inconsistent experiences that may depend on shift, unit, or individual staff members.

For prospective residents and families, the takeaways are nuanced. Winston Manor appears to have a solid core of compassionate caregivers and some effective operational responsiveness in maintenance and resident transitions. However, concerns about administrative responsiveness, front-desk professionalism, inconsistent staff knowledge/attitude, smoking within the facility, and mixed dining quality are significant and recurring. If considering Winston Manor, visitors should meet both direct care staff and administrative personnel, observe multiple meal services, ask about smoking policies and enforcement, and inquire about consistency of staffing across shifts and what steps leadership is taking to address the specific negative reports. Addressing administrative culture, front-desk training, and stricter enforcement of smoking rules would likely reduce the most frequent and impactful complaints while preserving the strong caregiving culture many reviewers praise.
