    Safe friendly affordable independent community

I live here and have been very happy - staff and residents are friendly and extremely helpful, and the property manager is outstanding. The community is clean, well-maintained, recently redecorated, affordable for a fixed income, and conveniently close to medical care and shopping. There are plenty of activities (bingo, pinochle, billiards, exercise room, BBQs, potlucks, parties) and a shuttle to appointments. My one-bedroom with a balcony is comfortable, though I'd prefer a larger bedroom/kitchen. Note: residents cook their own meals (no dining program), the front door security could be better, and the single elevator can mean long waits. I adjusted well and would highly recommend this safe, independent community.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews of Fox River Horizon is strongly positive. Reviewers repeatedly emphasize the friendliness and professionalism of staff and management, calling staff kind, courteous, and welcoming. The property and maintenance teams are highlighted as particularly helpful, with multiple mentions of a highly involved property/building manager who provides move-in assistance and day-to-day support. Cleanliness, upkeep, and recent redecoration of common areas are frequent points of praise, and many reviewers describe the campus as safe, comfortable, and well cared for.

Activity programming and social life are clearly strengths. Residents mention a broad schedule of activities including bingo, pinochle, billiards, parties, BBQs, potlucks, and holiday feasts. The community is portrayed as independent but socially active, with many opportunities to interact and form friendships. Amenities that support an active lifestyle — such as an exercise room with treadmills and a bike, a game room, and recreational spaces — are noted positively. Several reviewers also point out the shuttle service for medical appointments and grocery trips, which adds convenience for residents who do not drive.

Location and affordability emerge as important themes. Reviewers appreciate the residential setting’s proximity to medical facilities and shopping, and several explicitly state that Fox River Horizon is affordable for those on fixed incomes, representing good value. Apartment features that are singled out favorably include one-bedroom units with balconies and comfortable apartment sizes for independent living. The community is repeatedly recommended by residents and visitors; phrases like "highly recommend," "would recommend," and "great community" appear throughout the summaries.

There are a few consistent concerns to be aware of. The community does not offer an on-site meal program, so residents must prepare their own meals; while some social meals and a holiday feast are offered, the lack of daily dining services is a clear limitation for prospective residents who expect or need meal support. Security at the front door has been called out as not secure by at least one reviewer, which could be important for those prioritizing controlled access. Operationally, the building has a single elevator, which some residents find causes long wait times. Unit size is another minor recurring critique — a few reviewers wished for larger bedrooms and kitchens.

A small number of remarks suggest tentative or changing healthcare arrangements among residents, implying that some people are still settling medical care patterns after moving in; however, shuttle services and proximity to medical facilities help mitigate access concerns. Overall, the dominant impressions are of a friendly, well-run independent living community with active social programming, solid maintenance, and strong value for fixed-income residents. The notable trade-offs are the absence of a meal program, limited elevator capacity, some security concerns at the entrance, and modest unit sizes — factors prospective residents should weigh against the many positives when considering Fox River Horizon.
