    Compassionate staff and spotless facility

I placed my mom here and couldn't be happier - the staff are genuinely compassionate, highly skilled, and attentive, treating residents with dignity and one-on-one care. The facility is spotless, modern and well-kept with spacious rooms, lovely grounds and no odors. Meals are large and delicious, and there's a full activities schedule (music/piano, trivia, outings) plus personalized touches like nail polish and favorite colors. It's pricier, but the superior long-term and end-of-life care made me comfortable leaving her here.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews for Highland Oaks is strongly positive, with repeated emphasis on excellent, compassionate caregiving and a homelike atmosphere. Reviewers consistently highlight staff as the standout feature: they are described as friendly, accommodating, respectful and genuinely invested in resident wellbeing. Multiple accounts mention personalized touches (such as honoring color preferences, doing residents' nails and applying lipstick), attentive eye contact, frequent one-on-one interaction, and long-tenured caregivers. These elements contribute to a pervasive sense that residents are treated with dignity and family-like care rather than in an impersonal, institutional way.

Clinical and nursing quality are also praised. Comments reference a high level of skilled nursing and assisted living services, a favorable staff-to-resident ratio, and comfort leaving loved ones in the community’s care. Specific strengths include end-of-life attentiveness, continuity for long-term residents, access to physicians, and staff competency. Several reviews characterize Highland Oaks as offering “the best” or “superior” care and note that residents with higher needs (wheelchair users, long-term skilled nursing patients) are well supported.

Facility, grounds and cleanliness receive consistent positive mentions. The building is described as recently remodeled, modern, spotless and odor-free, with bright dining areas, wide hallways, spacious rooms and up-to-date equipment. Outdoor features such as manicured grounds, a patio and lake views add to the secluded, peaceful setting that many reviewers appreciated. The dining experience is repeatedly singled out: the dining room is clean and well-lit, portions are generous, menus are varied and often go beyond the standard options, and reviewers call the food delicious. Practical services such as daily laundry and consistent housekeeping further reinforce the perception of a well-run physical environment.

Programming and community life are robust according to the reviews. Highland Oaks offers a full schedule of activities—music hour with a piano player, quick trivia, cards for veterans and other social offerings—together with faith-based services and an intimate, small-community feel. Reviewers describe a warm extended-family atmosphere and a supportive environment that fosters gratitude and happiness among residents and families.

Notable concerns in the reviews are limited but consistent enough to mention. Several reviewers cited higher cost as a downside, and one reported a $200 application fee that was not refunded, which caused frustration. Availability can be an issue at times—one reviewer noted there was no opening when trying to place a family member. A few comments referenced shared rooms or a more clinical/hospital-like setting in parts of the community, which may be a consideration for families seeking private accommodations or a purely residential feel.

In summary, Highland Oaks is portrayed as a clean, modern, and well-maintained senior living community with strong clinical capabilities and an exceptional caregiving culture. Strengths include deeply compassionate staff, personalized attention, a wide variety of activities (including faith-based programming), attractive grounds and dining, and suitability for both assisted living and skilled nursing needs. Prospective residents and families should weigh these positives against higher costs, occasional space constraints, and the possibility of shared-room arrangements in some areas. Overall, the aggregate reviews indicate a high level of satisfaction and a consistent pattern of quality care and a homey, respectful environment.
