    Attentive staff, excellent amenities, pricey

I moved my mother in and we've been very happy overall. The staff are professional, friendly and attentive - nurses and nurse practitioners check in regularly and went above and beyond during the move. Apartments are bright, well-maintained with good layouts and kitchenettes (some units are small and a few bathrooms are tight for wheelchairs). Food is excellent and health-focused, and activities are abundant - pools, gym/therapy, theater, art, trips and discussion groups - with beautiful grounds and underground walkways. It's expensive and some buildings are far apart with crowded parking, but it feels safe, comfortable and worth it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive, with repeated praise for the staff, the quality of care, the campus aesthetics, dining, and the variety of activities and amenities. Staff characterizations are consistently favorable: reviewers describe employees as friendly, considerate, professional and often willing to go above and beyond. Clinical supports are emphasized as a strength — licensed nurses, nurse practitioners, and on-site physician/hospital access were specifically noted — as was excellent physical therapy. Multiple comments highlighted attentive health checks and frequent staff check-ins, and memory care was described as well cared for.

The campus and facilities receive frequent compliments. Reviewers commonly mention a beautiful, well-maintained campus with flowers, trees, and accessible grounds. Interiors are often described as bright and cheery — a fresh foyer, light-filled rooms, and spacious communal rooms and dining areas recur in the feedback. Amenities are extensive: indoor pools (including a warm-water pool), whirlpool, athletic center with equipment (bicycles, rowing machines), theater, hairdresser, library, and accessible gardens and outdoor spaces. The presence of multiple housing types on the same campus (independent, assisted living, skilled nursing, cottages, and townhouses) is appreciated for continuity of care and community.

Dining and programming are frequently cited positives. Several reviewers praised healthy, gourmet-style meals with abundant fresh vegetables and fruits, helpful dining staff, and generous portions/snacks available. Dining spaces are described as ample and bright, and many reviewers noted an active, varied program schedule: arts and crafts, lectures, discussion groups, movies 2–3 times per week, trips to galleries and gardens, and transportation via campus buses. Exercise classes, trips, and robust physical therapy services also received explicit praise, positioning the community as health-focused and activity-rich.

There are, however, recurring caveats and areas for improvement. Cost is a consistent concern — reviewers labeled the community expensive and called attention to à la carte pricing. Unit size is mixed: while many units are described as spacious and light-filled, others are noted as small with limited storage and modest closets. Accessibility issues were flagged in particular with bathrooms that can be too small for wheelchair maneuvering despite generally accessible grounds. Reviewers also reported variability in the age and condition of buildings across the campus: some areas feel newly opened or recently refreshed, while other buildings and units feel older.

Operational and availability concerns appear intermittently in the reviews. A few reviewers mentioned that certain services or activities were not yet active either because the community was recently opened or due to extended interruptions (including COVID-related limitations that at times closed dining rooms or curtailed programs). Some guests noted a lack of organized activities in certain parts of the community for prolonged periods. Logistical aspects of the campus also drew notice: while underground connectivity and covered walkways are positives, the large property can mean buildings are far apart, and the appearance of the grounds is sometimes detracted from by many parked cars.

Management and move-in support are generally seen as strengths — move consultants and staff who understand the moving process were repeatedly praised — but a few reviewers commented on administrative complexity (multiple managers) which may be confusing to some families. Despite the cost and the variability in unit size/age, several reviewers clearly felt the community was worth the price for the safety, comfort, and high level of personal attention their family members received; there are multiple reports of long-term residents and family members who were very satisfied.

In summary, Westminster Place emerges from these reviews as a well-regarded senior living community with standout staff, strong clinical and therapy services, attractive grounds and many on-site amenities, health-focused dining, and a broad, engaging activities program. Prospective residents should weigh the premium cost and investigate specific unit sizes, bathroom accessibility, and which services or activities are currently active in the particular building they are considering. For families prioritizing responsive staff, comprehensive care options on a single campus, robust fitness and therapy amenities, and a lively activity schedule, Westminster Place appears to be a very compelling option; for those on tighter budgets or needing fully wheelchair-accessible in-unit bathrooms or consistently active programming in every building, there are some important issues to confirm during a tour.

    About Westminster Place

Westminster Place sits at 3200 Grant Street in Evanston, Illinois, and has a long list of services for older adults, giving people a place to live where their needs and care can change over time if they need. Owned by Presbyterian Homes, which is a faith-based, not-for-profit group, Westminster Place uses special terms for its different services, and you'll see names here that you don't find at every community, so if you hear "Club 1904," that's the priority wait list program meant to give people some control over future housing choices, which comes in handy because there are so many types of homes here-apartments, cottages, and townhouses-and they're all set up for maintenance-free living, which is nice if you want fewer chores or home repairs to think about, plus there are easy services like meals and happy hours, so you can eat and relax without much effort.

The community calls itself a Life Plan Community, so residents can pick independent living if they're mostly self-sufficient, assisted living if they need some help with stuff like bathing or dressing, skilled nursing whether stay is short or long, memory care for conditions like Alzheimer's, rehabilitation including a 5-star rehab team if someone's been in the hospital, plus there's respite care for shorter stays so caregivers get a break, and general counseling or geriatric social services from trained social workers who know what seniors often need, and there's even access to psychiatrists and psychoanalysts, which isn't something every place has. The setting aims to be homelike and warm for those in skilled nursing, and the memory care area has expert staff helping folks with memory problems.

You'll find thoughtful touches all around, like elegant rooms with high ceilings, big skylights, and bright colors, and outside, the courtyards feature gardens, stone walkways, and fountains-good places to wander or sit. People who care about community or wellness might notice programs focus on supporting seven levels of wellness: social, physical, intellectual, spiritual, environmental, emotional, and community, and there are activities, fitness centers, and wellness classes if you want to move or be active.

You get a choice of care and housing that fits your needs at the time, and as those needs change, the community can provide more support, while still letting people keep some autonomy and routine. Westminster Place doesn't claim to be perfect, but it covers a wide range of care types in one location and has a staff that listens to its residents.
