    Caring staff; outdated facility, recommended

I was thrilled with the staff - nursing, therapy, housekeeping and administration were respectful, knowledgeable and genuinely caring; they helped with paperwork, got us settled, and my aunt's hip-surgery rehab went very well. The community feels like a welcoming, small-town home with friendly residents and generally clean rooms. My only reservations are the outdated building - stained furniture, roof leaks, old beds, muddy parking and a tiny therapy area - and uneven meals; despite that, I highly recommend them for the excellent care.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews for Haven of Farmer City is strongly positive about the quality of care and the staff, while raising consistent concerns about the physical condition and presentation of the facility. Multiple reviewers emphasize that the caregivers — including nursing, therapy, and housekeeping staff — are caring, respectful, and effective. Several specific care outcomes are highlighted (for example, successful hip surgery recovery and smooth transitions from rehab to home), and administration is described as knowledgeable and helpful, particularly in navigating paperwork and admissions. Many reviewers explicitly recommend the facility and describe a warm, home-like, small-town atmosphere that makes residents and families feel welcomed.

Staff quality is the single most frequently noted strength. Comments use words such as "awesome," "amazing," and "wonderful" to describe interactions with nurses, therapists, and floor staff. Housekeeping and daily care are commonly praised, and multiple accounts indicate that the staff responds quickly and provides attentive, individualized care. The administration is also viewed positively by several families, who appreciated respectful communication and assistance during the admission process. This combination of clinical competence and approachable administration appears to contribute to high satisfaction for families and residents.

Despite these strong endorsements of staff and care, a number of reviews point to significant facility and maintenance issues. Reported problems include stained furniture, visible water damage, roof leaks (including leaks into closets), and the presence of outdated equipment such as hand-crank beds. Reviewers express presentation concerns and describe the building and furnishings as "old" or "outdated," which affects the perceived overall quality despite good care. Exterior issues are also mentioned — specifically a muddy parking lot — which may impact first impressions and accessibility. These recurring descriptions suggest the physical plant may be in need of repair, updating, or improved maintenance to match the level of care provided.

Dining and therapy receive mixed feedback. Some reviewers explicitly praise the food and describe it as "very good," while at least one review calls the meals poor and the dining experience "old-fashioned." This inconsistency suggests that food quality and dining experience may vary over time, by shift, or by individual expectation. The therapy program is similarly mixed in the reviews: several people describe a "wonderful rehab experience" and successful recoveries, yet one review notes the therapy department is "tiny." This could indicate that, although therapy staff are effective and well-regarded, space or equipment limitations may constrain programming or comfort.

The overall pattern is clear: Haven of Farmer City appears to deliver strong, compassionate, and effective care primarily because of a dedicated staff and supportive administration, producing many satisfied residents and families and positive rehabilitation outcomes. However, the facility’s physical condition, presentation, and some operational elements (meals, exterior grounds, therapy space) are commonly cited weaknesses. For prospective residents or families, the trade-off seems to be between an excellent caregiving culture and an environment that could benefit from capital improvements and cosmetic upgrades. Addressing maintenance, updating furnishings and beds, improving dining consistency, and expanding or enhancing therapy space would likely raise overall satisfaction to match the high regard reviewers have for the staff and care.
