    Caring attentive staff, beautiful campus

I moved my mother here and couldn't be more pleased. The staff are caring and attentive, the campus is beautiful and spotless, meals are delicious, and there are endless activities and outings that make it feel like home. Safety, prompt maintenance and strong hospital coordination give real peace of mind; a few families noted pricing/management complaints, but overall I highly recommend this community.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is strongly positive but contains a small set of serious negative patterns that merit careful attention. The dominant themes are praise for the staff, breadth of activities, campus upkeep, and dining; many reviewers emphasize a warm, family-like culture, engaged activity staff, and personnel who 'go above and beyond.' The campus setting, cleanliness, landscaping and sense of safety are repeatedly cited, as are amenities such as a chapel, beauty shop, library, exercise room, garden plots, and frequent social events. Residents and families frequently describe quick maintenance responses, an involved volunteer board and not-for-profit structure, and a welcoming move-in experience that helps new residents form friendships and settle in quickly.

Care quality and staffing emerge as one of the community's greatest strengths in most accounts. Multiple reviewers single out nursing and caregiving staff as compassionate, attentive and like family; specific staff members are named and praised for responsiveness and knowledge. The campus provides multiple levels of care through independent and assisted living wings, and reviewers describe effective hospital coordination, nurse navigation, and examples where quick staff intervention prevented serious harm. That said, reviewers also note variability: while many report excellent assisted living care, some families recount miscommunication, care inconsistency, or perceived neglect. Importantly, the community stops short of providing full skilled nursing services, and several reviewers emphasize that it is not suitable for someone who is totally incapacitated or who needs nursing-home–level care.

Dining and activities are frequent highlights. The on-site chef and kitchen receive abundant praise; reviewers report varied weekly menus, dining credits bundled with fees, delicious meals and special dining experiences. The activities program is described as vibrant and creative — including crafts, bingo, card games, live music, dancing, mushroom hunting, birding, exercise classes, trips to theaters and restaurants, and gardening — which supports a lively social environment and many opportunities for residents to form lasting friendships. Many reviewers credit activity staff with being energetic, imaginative and central to residents' well-being.

Facility features and housing options are varied and generally well liked. The community offers villas, condos and apartments with options ranging from studios to two-bedroom units; some apartments have full kitchens, balconies, and in-unit laundry, whereas others have smaller kitchens or shared features. The grounds, signage and unit decor receive positive comments. Maintenance responsiveness is frequently praised, though a handful of specific maintenance or safety incidents are reported (examples include a door lock falling off and cable not set up), indicating occasional lapses.

A prominent and recurring negative theme concerns financial communication and management. Several reviewers allege promises not kept, misleading statements, and multiple unexpected rent increases. Some families felt rent policies were not transparent and reported being surprised or upset by additional charges. Relatedly, a few reviewers describe experiences with management that felt unhelpful, inconsistent, or poorly communicative. More serious are isolated but significant reports of adverse administrative actions: forced relocations, a situation where a resident was not allowed to return after a hospital/emergency event, and an alleged HIPAA violation. These accounts are relatively rare compared with the volume of positive reviews, but they are severe in nature and point to potential policy or procedural weaknesses in crisis handling, privacy, and resident protections.

Transportation and logistics show mixed feedback. Many reviewers value the community van and shuttle services for doctor appointments and outings, but others describe transportation as limited or insufficient. Families also mention differences in how services are bundled (e.g., dining credits) and desire additional on-site conveniences like banking. There are occasional comments about unit inconsistencies and privacy concerns in assisted-living bedrooms; prospective residents should verify exact apartment features (washer/dryer, kitchen size, balcony) when touring.

In summary, Asbury Village is repeatedly characterized as a clean, attractive, well-run community with exceptionally warm, dedicated staff and a rich program of activities and dining that enhance resident quality of life. Its not-for-profit status and volunteer governance are cited as benefits that prioritize resident experiences over profit. However, there is a notable subset of reviews that raise serious management and policy concerns — particularly around rent transparency, administrative communication, emergency handling, and at least one alleged privacy breach. These issues are less frequent but important. Prospective residents and families should weigh the broadly positive reports about staff, activities and environment against those isolated but serious administrative complaints; when considering the community, ask specifically about rent increase policies, emergency readmission and transfer procedures, HIPAA/privacy safeguards, the limits of on-site nursing care, and exact unit features to ensure expectations are aligned with what is provided.

Residents have access to several types of care, including independent living for healthy, active folks, assisted living when you need help with bathing, dressing, or medication, full skilled nursing with round-the-clock care, memory care programs for Alzheimer's and dementia that feature safety, special activities, and 24-hour support, plus hospice and respite care when that's needed, and both a hospice waiver and a dementia waiver are available.

There's an on-site clinic and a health navigator for help getting answers or finding the right medical support, and the care team includes nurses and doctors on call, podiatrists, trained aides for home care, and therapy options like physical, occupational, and speech therapy. You'll find help for just about every daily need, from meals tailored to different dietary choices to transportation around the community, wheelchair accessible showers, and help with things like wound care when needed. Folks can take part in a full social calendar with daily, community-run activities, wellness and balance classes, group outings, volunteer work, and games in comfortable common areas like the fireside lounge, café market, garden spaces, or the fitness room that's recently updated to focus on strength and mobility.

The food covers a wide range-there are restaurants right on campus with Asian, Southern, Vietnamese, pizza, soul food, and much more, along with coffeehouses, cupcake shops, tea rooms, and even an ice cream and bubble tea store so there's always something different to try, and meals come prepared with a focus on nutrition and flavor. The campus is pet friendly, with Wi-Fi, high-speed internet, easy access for folks with mobility needs, lots of indoor and outdoor gathering spots, and resident parking. Awards for friendliness, care, and activities back up the good reputation here, as does a 4.6 average rating from 48 reviews, and the Best of Senior Living recognition.
