    Caring staff, clean facility, pricey

I placed my dad here and overall I'm glad I did. The nurses and CNAs (Angela stood out) are caring and dependable, the facility is very clean, bright and recently remodeled with beautiful grounds, large rooms, great activities (bingo, ice cream shop, salon, spa, live performers) and solid therapy and food options. Downsides: staff quality sometimes varies, COVID outbreaks left them short-staffed and slow with updates/medical care, bathrooms can be shared/cramped, and there were issues like drafty windows and occasional lack of hot water. It's pricey but Medicaid helps; no regrets overall.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in these reviews is strongly positive with recurring praise for the nursing and caregiving teams, facility cleanliness, activities, and therapy services, while notable concerns cluster around staffing variability, pandemic-era communication and medical response, and some facility logistics.

Care quality: Most reviewers describe the clinical care as excellent—frequent mentions of “amazing nursing staff,” “outstanding care,” and dependable 24-hour nursing coverage. Several accounts highlight individual staff members (for example, one nurse named Angela) and long-tenured aides who provided consistent, compassionate care and built personal relationships with residents. Therapy services are highlighted as robust (therapy up to five days/week) and effective, with reports of functional improvement. However, reviews also indicate variability in care quality that correlates with which staff are working; some families experienced uneven care or interactions with less-welcoming employees. During the COVID outbreak, multiple reviews flagged that staff were overwhelmed and that there were delays or concerns about timely medical responses during quarantine periods.

Staff and administration: The facility receives consistent praise for warm, caring, and helpful staff, including activities staff, CNAs, and nurses. Many reviews mention strong teamwork and leadership, and administration is often described as resident-centered and top-notch. Long-tenured staff and aides are repeatedly cited as strengths. Conversely, communication issues—particularly during stressful periods like COVID—are a common negative theme: families reported poor or delayed updates about resident status. A few reviews note that some staff members were not welcoming, indicating a degree of inconsistency in staff attitudes.

Facilities and environment: Reviewers repeatedly call out the facility as very clean, bright, and recently remodeled, with attractive grounds and vibrant communal spaces. Large bedrooms and a welcoming décor (sofas, large screens, visiting areas) are valued features. There is a reputation as a “hidden gem” with a waiting list, signaling demand for beds. Reported facility shortcomings include shared bathroom setups (up to four residents sharing a bathroom), room-sharing rules that some families found undesirable, and practical issues such as drafty windows, cold nights, and intermittent lack of warm water for showers. Ongoing renovations are improving the facility but have caused intermittent disruption.

Dining and activities: Dining is broadly praised—food is described as good with variety, alternative menu choices, and buffet service. Leisure and enrichment are clear strengths: the facility runs an active calendar with bingo, live performers, salon services, ice cream parlor, spa treatments (e.g., hot wax hand massages), and frequent social opportunities. These activities are credited with helping residents adjust, make friends, and maintain a vibrant daily life.

Costs, access, and reputation: Some reviewers note the facility is expensive for private pay residents, although Medicaid assistance is available. Demand appears high (waiting lists for private rooms), and many reviewers express no regrets about choosing the facility. The home’s long history (over 30 years) and generally positive online reviews contribute to a strong overall reputation.

Notable patterns and recommendations: The dominant positive themes are compassionate nursing and caregiving, strong activities and therapy, cleanliness, and effective administration. The most significant concerns are staffing levels and communication—especially under pandemic stress—and occasional variability in individual staff performance. Prospective families should be encouraged by the strong clinical and social offerings but may want to confirm current staffing levels, ask about communication protocols for urgent updates, and inspect bathroom arrangements and room specifics (private vs. shared) during touring. Overall, for families prioritizing active programming, engaging therapy, and caring staff, Sunny Hill Nursing Home–Will County appears to be a well-regarded option, with the caveat to monitor staffing consistency and specific room/bathroom accommodations.
