    Caring staff, spacious but dated

I'm very pleased overall - the staff were caring, responsive, and incredibly helpful during our move, with long-tenured teams and low turnover. The building is clean, well-maintained and the apartments are spacious; dining, activities, therapy, shuttle and salon services are strong. My main issues: parts of the building feel dated/dark, vegetarian and meal-monitoring options are limited, and communication/medical response can be inconsistent (especially in higher-care areas). Despite some management/billing hiccups, I'd recommend Lincolnwood Place for independent or long-term residency if you prioritize staff and community - just confirm care responsiveness and food options first.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The reviews for Lincolnwood Place are predominantly positive, with recurring praise for staff warmth, move‑in support, apartment size and cleanliness, and the breadth of services offered. Many reviewers strongly recommend the community and highlight a welcoming, homey atmosphere, active programming, and a chef and dining staff who repeatedly receive commendations. The facility is perceived as well maintained and bright by numerous residents and families, with convenient amenities such as a fitness room, salon, courtyard/outdoor events, and reliable transportation services.

Staff and care quality: One of the facility's clearest strengths is its staff. Multiple reviews describe staff as friendly, accommodating, responsive and long‑tenured, with several specific employees (head housekeeper, maintenance, dining staff, nurses, and admissions/transition staff) singled out as exceptional. Move‑in and relocation assistance is repeatedly praised. At the same time, reviews reveal inconsistency in caregiving quality. While many report excellent nurses and caring aides, others report rude CNAs, unprofessional behavior from higher‑level clinical staff in isolated incidents, and use of agency staff to cover shifts. Several reviews mention call lights not being answered promptly, overwhelmed social work staff, and delayed replacement of medical supplies. These mixed reports suggest generally strong person‑centered care for many residents but variability depending on unit, shift, or specific team.

Facilities and apartments: Reviewers consistently cite large, well‑configured apartment layouts with in‑unit laundry in many independent suites and a full kitchen in most units. Common spaces such as an inviting lobby, bright hallways, and well‑appointed amenities (fitness room, courtyard, salon) receive positive comments. Parking options, including outdoor and garage parking, are appreciated. However, the building shows its age in places: some areas are described as dated, not well lit, or having worn finishes and odd or problematic details (carpet by sinks, venting issues). A few reviewers found the floorplan confusing with long hallways that can be difficult for residents with cognitive decline.

Dining and housekeeping: Dining is a highlight for many — restaurant‑style service, a praised chef, courteous dining staff, and regular meal service are common positives. Several reviewers note generous portions and attentive dining room staff who track attendance and accommodate dietary needs. Nevertheless, consistent criticisms include limited variety, repetitive menus (notably frequent pasta), limited vegetarian and gluten‑free options, and a kosher‑style or constrained menu for some residents. An operational detail raised multiple times is that meals cannot be banked if unused and that crowded dinner periods reduce the dining experience for some. Weekly housekeeping and some assisted‑living laundry services are frequently cited as valuable inclusions.

Activities and community life: Lincolnwood Place receives strong marks for activities and social programming. Reviewers mention engaging classes, dinner groups, movies, poker, educational programs, outings to the movies, outdoor concerts, and resident involvement in events. Many residents report feeling comfortable, socially engaged and intellectually stimulated. A minority note that certain activity offerings are less appealing compared with other communities or that activity participation is limited by medical issues among residents.

Management, operations, and contracts: Management impressions are mixed. Several families and residents report excellent communication and helpful directors of resident services, while others describe poor follow‑up, slow post‑signup communication, and inconsistent handling of complaints. There are a few serious negative reports including billing disputes, a refused refund, and an abrupt eviction claim; these are outliers but significant. Price sensitivity appears repeatedly: some reviewers call the community pricey and note a buy‑in requirement in certain units, while others characterize pricing as competitive or a good value. At least one review cited a severe operational failure (no air conditioning for two weeks), which raised concerns about emergency protocols and contingency planning.

Memory care and clinical suitability: Lincolnwood Place offers a full continuum of care, and many reviewers appreciate the ability to transition from independent living to assisted living and skilled nursing onsite. Memory care impressions are mixed: some reviewers praised memory care staff as sweet and caring, but others reported that the layout and large, Hilton‑like independent living environment can be hard to navigate for residents with memory decline and that the community may not be ideal for advanced dementia needs. Families should consider the specific memory care unit, staffing ratios, and safety protocols when evaluating suitability.

Patterns and final assessment: The dominant pattern in these reviews is a community that excels in hospitality, apartment space and amenities, dining service, programming, and a core of dedicated long‑term staff that create a warm, respectful environment. Counterbalancing this are recurring operational and management concerns: inconsistent communication, occasional lapses in frontline caregiving behavior, maintenance delays, dining limitations for special diets, and some serious isolated incidents involving billing or emergency handling. For prospective residents and families, reviewers commonly recommend Lincolnwood Place but advise clarifying contract terms (including any buy‑in), asking about staffing levels and call‑light response times, confirming dietary accommodations, inspecting any specific unit for workmanship and lighting, and discussing emergency/contingency procedures. Overall, Lincolnwood Place appears to be a well‑liked, community‑oriented option with notable strengths in staff and amenities, suitable for many seniors — especially those seeking spacious independent living with available continuum‑of‑care — while warranting careful due diligence around communication, billing, and higher‑acuity care arrangements.

    About Lincolnwood Place

Lincolnwood Place sits in Lincolnwood, Illinois, at the north end of the Chicago area, close enough that families can visit often, and folks can enjoy the shops and food at Lincolnwood Town Center, which has over 100 shops and places to eat, and the building itself is a multi-story red brick community, with a big entrance sign out front and flowerbeds that look lively. The place is set up for different kinds of needs, so someone who's living on their own can have an apartment with some independence, but there's also help for those who need assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, or even short-term rehab after surgery or illness, and they do go the extra mile to try and make the transition easier, working with partner groups to offer help with moving and veteran benefits.

Inside, the common areas have comfortable seating, patterned carpets, and decorative lights that make things feel homey and warm, and there's an elegant bar with dark wood and a nearby dining space where people like to gather. Residents can use lounges and a private library with shelves of books, nice seating, and a piano, plus a big lounge space with a TV and a soft couch, and if you look in the memory care area, you'll notice built-in bookshelves, games, a computer area, a table for playing or chatting, and a fireplace with armchairs, so people have places to relax or spend time together.

There's a lot of ways to stay active, like a fitness center, walking paths outside, or exercise studios, and for folks who need it, there are on-site therapies - physical, occupational, or speech - with personal recovery plans, all meant to help people get their confidence back. They support engaging activities, such as book clubs, educational opportunities, games, outings, musical events, art programs, puzzles, and continued learning, often using their own Embrace program for memory care support. There are dining rooms with high ceilings and big windows, and the meals are served restaurant-style, focused on nutrition and creating pleasant experiences at the table, and the kitchen even prepares special menus for folks with different needs. Folks can find a beauty shop and barbershop on-site, a game room, event rooms for private dinners, and a comfortable movie screening room, with community staff available all day and night.

Residents get regular housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance, so they don't have to worry about chores, and there's scheduled transportation for appointments, errands, or group trips out into the walkable neighborhood, where attractions are close by. Pets are always welcome, so people can bring a cat or dog when they move in, and parking is available for those who still drive. The apartments come in different sizes - studios, one-bedroom, two-bedroom layouts - and some have private patios, which gives plenty of choice depending on what someone wants or needs.

Lincolnwood Place pays attention to wellness, offers support so people can live confidently, provides care like help with daily routines, and tries to keep everyone engaged, whether someone's living on their own, needs a little extra help, or has Alzheimer's or other memory problems. The staff stays on-site round the clock, and there are skilled nurses and therapists right there if you need them, with programs and schedules meant to help people feel included and cared for, without the pressure or pretense you sometimes find elsewhere.
