The Elms sits at 1212 Madelyn Ave in Macomb, Illinois, and has a long history that goes back to 1856, starting as the County Poor Farm and Almshouse, and over the years it's grown into a not-for-profit skilled nursing facility with 98 beds and Medicare and Medicaid certification. The staff of about 140 workers provide round-the-clock nursing and personal care, and you'll find skilled rehabilitative services like occupational, physical, and speech therapies for both short and long-term stays, along with ongoing restorative programs to help residents keep or regain skills. People living here have access to nursing services, therapy services, social services for residents and their families, and special programs for those with dementia, plus a variety of daily activities and religious services to help stay engaged.
They serve three nutritious meals and snacks every day, prepared by a team that includes a Certified Dietary Manager, Registered Dietician Consultant, experienced cooks, and food service workers, making sure to offer substitutes and a salad cart, while two dining rooms let residents pick where and how they want to enjoy their food, with space for families or guests to join at meals when they want, and the kitchen does its best to honor different dietary needs and allow people to make their own choices about food and daily living as much as possible. The Maintenance Department has three full-time people, all skilled in groundskeeping, plumbing, refrigeration, and electrical work, so the buildings stay in good shape, and the Housekeeping and Laundry Department keep things clean-which includes doing all residents' personal laundry six days a week to help keep a home-like setting. The Curly Cue Beauty Salon, run by a licensed beautician, opens twice a week for hair care, and there are spaces for families to visit and celebrate birthdays or anniversaries with residents.
The business office is open five days a week to help with Medicare and Medicaid questions, and The Elms works as part of the Illinois Health Care Association, offering membership benefits, legislative advocacy, and educational events meant to help long-term care providers. They don't offer telehealth, but they do focus on hands-on care with a belief in treating each person as an individual worthy of respect, aiming for quality service but without promising perfection, and always trying to keep everyone's best interest at heart.
