    Warm, professional care with issues

I feel this facility delivers genuinely person-centered, family-like care - staff are warm, patient and professional (Devona Brown is outstanding), leadership is hands-on and supportive, therapy and rehab are excellent, and meals/variety are good. The team often goes above and beyond and I would recommend it. My main caveats are severe understaffing and an aging building that needs upgrades; occasional cleanliness/pest issues should be addressed.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is mixed but leans positive with important and recurring caveats. A large portion of reviewers praise the staff, therapy services, and administration: many describe the clinical team as caring, patient, and family-like, and several single out therapy and rehabilitation as strong points. Administrators receive repeated positive mentions (Devonna/Devona Brown and Mrs. Leola were named), with families and employees calling leadership proactive, hands-on, and supportive. Communication with families, individualized/person-centered care, and visible improvements in resident condition are commonly reported. Many reviewers explicitly recommend the facility and say residents were treated with respect and dignity.

Staffing and workplace culture are central themes with both positive and negative notes. Numerous reviews highlight a strong team spirit, good teamwork, staff development opportunities, and a sense of pride among employees. At the same time, a clear and consistent concern is severe understaffing — reviewers frequently mention low staffing ratios, stressed and overworked staff, coworker conflicts, and instances of harassment. This understaffing is linked in several reviews to potential safety issues and to inconsistencies in the level of care; while some residents receive exemplary attention, others experience lapses or delays in service when staffing is insufficient.

Facility condition and maintenance show a split picture. Multiple reviewers describe the building as clean, well-run, and comfortable, while others report outdated infrastructure, plumbing problems, and even reports of dirty bathrooms and bugs. The term "dated facility" or "needs upgrades" appears repeatedly, indicating that while day-to-day operations and housekeeping may be adequate for many, there are tangible physical plant issues that some families and staff want addressed. These mixed observations point to variability in unit-level cleanliness and maintenance rather than a uniform condition across the campus.

Dining and activities are also mixed but tilt positive overall. Several reviewers praise the food, noting variety and good meals, and a number of comments single out activities — including dance sessions and outdoor time — as meaningful quality-of-life contributors. Conversely, a minority of reviews sharply criticize the food as "awful," showing that meal quality may vary by date, kitchen staff, or individual preferences. Activity programming is frequently cited as a strength, supporting resident engagement and enjoyment.

Management and corporate oversight receive both praise and criticism. Locally, administrators are often commended for being hands-on, proactive, and supportive; families appreciate administrators who help with placement and who communicate well. However, there are recurring critiques aimed at higher-level or corporate management and at workplace culture in some departments — comments about harassment, staff complaints, and perceived lack of corporate support suggest areas where organizational policies or resourcing may not be consistently effective.

Patterns and overall takeaway: the facility demonstrates many strong clinical and interpersonal strengths — caring staff, effective therapy, engaged administrators, and activities that residents enjoy. The most significant recurring negatives are staffing shortages, variability in cleanliness and maintenance, and inconsistent dining experiences. The reviews are somewhat polarized: many very positive endorsements coexist with a minority of severe negative reports. Anyone evaluating the facility should weigh the consistently praised elements (therapy, compassionate team members, certain administrators) against the persistent operational concerns (understaffing, building upkeep, occasional poor food). These contrast points suggest the facility can deliver high-quality, person-centered care, but that experience may depend on unit staffing levels, specific shifts, and which administrators or frontline teams are involved at a given time.

    About Aperion Care Midlothian

Aperion Care Midlothian, located in Midlothian, IL, offers a variety of care options for people who need skilled nursing, assisted living, memory care, or short-term rehabilitation, and you'll find private bathrooms, cable TV, a small kitchenette, telephone, air conditioning, and Wi-Fi in furnished rooms, so it feels a bit more comfortable for long stays or tough recoveries, and when someone needs help after an illness or surgery, the staff provide skilled nursing and therapy services-like physician care, occupational therapy, pain management, wound care, diabetes and CHF management, and feeding tube support, and they've got nurses on duty 12-16 hours each day along with 24-hour supervision and a call system for quick help if needed, which is a big plus for anyone worried about safety or medical needs. Medicaid and Medicare are both accepted, helping with costs, and family support services help people stay close with loved ones, including a way to send cards or keep in touch, which matters a lot to many folks.

There's a team including doctors, therapists, nursing staff, leadership members, and social services workers, paying attention to what each resident needs and working with families to set care goals. For daily living, staff help with bathing, dressing, and transfers, and community activities are set up every day in both indoor and outdoor spaces. Residents can join in arts and music programs, movie nights, games in the game room, fitness routines in a dedicated space, and enjoy the library or walk the garden's paths for fresh air, and there are household-style meals, even for special diets, which makes it feel homier but also helps with nutrition.

Aperion Care Midlothian has 91 certified beds, and as of June 2025, 6 of those are available, so it's not too big to feel impersonal, yet it can serve quite a few residents. There's memory care for those with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia, plus psychiatric rehabilitation and substance abuse programs, which are somewhat unique for a senior care facility. Both short-term and long-term care are supported, and after recovery, help continues so residents or guests can keep improving even after discharge, which a lot of families find reassuring.

On-site features include an activity room, a beauty salon, scheduled transportation, spa/wellness room, and plenty of common spaces for relaxing or visiting with others. Staff keep the place clean with housekeeping and laundry, they coordinate moves, and the concierge can help with other errands. Residents join activities or do their own projects, and the schedule is usually full, so there's something for different interests and energy levels. Because the facility is corporate-owned and for-profit, you may notice efficient policies and structured programs, but the focus stays on personal caring, understanding guest motivations, and staying connected with families' wishes, and there's always an eye on continued improvement for every guest's health and wellbeing.
