    Beautiful community with some staffing

I toured and visited family here and overall I'm impressed - the building is beautiful, very clean, bright and homey with great amenities (chapel, theater, salon, courtyard) and a full activities calendar that really keeps people engaged. Staff are warm, attentive and caring, nurses/CNAs are on-staff and responsive, and the food is usually appealing and varied. Some rooms are small or studio-like, and I noticed occasional staffing turnover, agency shifts and night understaffing that affected consistency of care and meals. If you can afford it, I'd recommend this as a safe, active, well-kept community.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across these reviews is mixed but leans positive: many reviewers praise Evergreen Senior Living for its beautiful, modern campus, wide array of amenities, large activity calendar, and an engaged team of staff who create a social, home-like environment. Repeated strengths include clean and well-maintained common areas, attractive landscaping and interiors, plentiful programming (exercise classes, music, bingo, arts, shopping outings), and a highly regarded dining program with a chef and many menu options. Residents and family members frequently comment that staff know residents by name, provide compassionate care, and go above and beyond to create events and personal touches (family barbecues, themed evenings, talent shows). Memory care neighborhoods are often described as secure, intimate, and structured, with specialized programming and a small-scale feel that many families appreciate.

Staff performance is a dominant theme with most reviews praising individual caregivers, nurses, and life-enrichment staff. Specific staff roles receive frequent positive mention: the life enrichment coordinator, building services and housekeeping teams, and the community bus driver are singled out as noteworthy contributors to resident quality of life. Many reviewers emphasize the personal, family-like treatment residents receive, the promptness of assistance via call buttons, and the ease with which residents form friendships and participate in outings. Apartment features and layout — private bathrooms, kitchenettes, walk-in showers, spacious closets, and in some cases larger 700-square-foot units — are cited as strong selling points that contribute to independence and comfort.

However, several recurring concerns temper the enthusiasm. Staffing shortages and turnover appear in numerous reviews; while some families report good staffing ratios and attentive caregivers, others describe nights or particular shifts as understaffed, reliant on agency CNAs, or inconsistent in skill level. A subset of reviews describe serious lapses: nights without appropriate nursing coverage, missed showers, inadequate vital checks, and hygiene lapses such as wearing the same gloves room-to-room or poor linen handling. These reports indicate variability in day-to-day care quality and raise safety concerns for some families.

Dining is both a strength and an occasional source of complaint. Many reviewers rave about the food, desserts, snack availability, and the flexibility of meal options — several mention a talented chef and positive dining environments. At the same time, there are specific operational issues reported: instances of cold dinners, multi-day milk shortages (cereal served without milk), and a norovirus outbreak that impacted residents. Some reviewers also describe a decline in food quality over time, linked by them to staff turnover or chef changes. These mixed reports suggest that while dining is generally strong, consistency can be a problem during staffing or operational disruptions.

Management, billing, and pricing surface as another area of mixed feedback. Multiple reviewers appreciate onsite teams and admissions staff for their tours and responsiveness, yet others report corporate-level accounting and billing issues, confusing invoicing, and concerns about rising costs and 2025 price increases. A few reviewers express a perception that costs are high and that the facility can behave like a ‘‘cash cow,’’ especially when paired with episodes of perceived declining care or understaffing. Financial uncertainty is noted by families dependent on long-term care insurance or public pay — some would have chosen Evergreen but could not afford it.

Notably, there are serious but less common allegations that families should weigh: reports of discrimination, privacy violations, and bullying; at least one account of a doctor prescribing a medication contrary to allergies (as stated by a reviewer); and more severe accusations about memory care being ‘‘horrific at night’’ in isolated reviews. These comments are not the norm but are significant because they point to areas where oversight, complaint resolution, and consistent policy enforcement are critical.

In sum, Evergreen Senior Living presents as an attractive, activity-rich, and generally well-regarded community with many strengths in environment, dining, and social programming. The most reliable positives are the built environment, breadth of activities, engaged life-enrichment staff, and many kind, devoted caregivers. The most important caveats are variability in care quality (especially across shifts and during staff turnover), occasional operational lapses (food/service consistency, infection events), and concerns about billing and cost increases. Prospective residents and families should weigh the many positive reports and frequent recommendations against the variability noted by some reviewers: ask specific questions about night staffing and agency use, infection-control practices, recent turnover in nursing leadership, billing processes, and contract terms for future price increases. Scheduling multiple visits at different times of day (including evenings) and speaking directly with current families in memory care or assisted-living neighborhoods can help validate the consistent performance of care and services over time.
