    Wonderful care beautiful grounds pricey

I moved my mom into Peace Village and overall it's been wonderful: beautiful, immaculate grounds and buildings, nice lake/pond views, and an elegant dining room with consistently delicious meals. The staff are kind, attentive and know residents by name; activities (bingo, classes, piano/dancing, outings) keep her engaged and social. Care and memory support feel professional, and I have real peace of mind. A few caveats: it's pricey, some apartments feel dated with limited accessibility, and buy-in/refund policies deserve careful review before committing.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The reviews of Peace Village are overwhelmingly positive in key areas—staff, cleanliness, grounds, dining, and activities—while showing a consistent set of operational and financial concerns that prospective residents and families should evaluate closely.

Staff and care quality: The dominant theme across reviews is praise for the staff. Many reviewers describe staff as caring, friendly, attentive, professional and well-trained; numerous accounts mention staff knowing residents’ names, building meaningful relationships, and delivering excellent nursing and hospice care. For many families the staff provide peace of mind and companionship. That said, reports are not uniform: a minority of reviewers highlight instances of rudeness, confrontational behavior, or unresponsiveness from some staff members. Administration and leadership responsiveness is also flagged by several reviewers as an area where complaints were not always resolved to the family’s satisfaction. There are a few serious negative reports describing neglect or safety concerns; these appear to be exceptions within an otherwise strongly positive set of comments about care.

Facilities and grounds: Peace Village receives consistent praise for its physical campus. Multiple reviewers note beautiful, well-kept, and immaculately maintained grounds with ponds, fountains, lake views, walking paths, patios and balconies. Interior facilities are frequently described as clean enough "you could eat off the floors," with renovated common areas, elevators, generous communal spaces, and seasonal decorations. Apartments are described as varied—some spacious with ample closet space and balconies—while other reviewers note smaller or older units that feel limited. Practical amenities are a strength: underground/inside parking, on-site beauty salon, bank, medical services, and pharmacy delivery are called out as convenient features. Accessibility is mixed: while elevators and many accessible common areas exist, some reviewers reported spread-out layouts and poor wheelchair accessibility in particular spots.

Dining and activities: Dining is repeatedly lauded. Reviewers praise the quality, variety and nutrition of the meals, from casual sandwich offerings to formal dining experiences and standout items (apple pie was specifically mentioned). Many call the dining room classy and the food excellent. Activities are another major positive: the community offers a wide array of classes, concerts, dancing, piano, painting, bingo, card games, exercise classes, daily outings and ongoing social programming. Residents often report an active social life and high engagement—an important quality-of-life indicator for prospective independent living residents.

Services and levels of care: The community provides multiple levels of care—independent living, assisted living and memory care—and many reviewers point out that the continuum works well for their needs. On-site medical care, pharmacy delivery, hospice services and medication management are seen as strengths. However, memory care receives mixed notes: while some praise memory-focused activities and staff, a few reviews indicate the memory care unit was not fully operational or that care did not meet expectations in certain instances. Prospective families should visit and ask specific questions about the current state of memory care and staffing ratios.

Financial and contractual issues: Financial considerations are among the most frequently cited concerns. Several reviewers find Peace Village to be good value relative to more expensive facilities, but others point to a substantial buy-in (one reviewer cited $49,000) and ongoing monthly fees that can feel steep (one cited rent around $1,990/mo; another raised concern about care costs up to $9,000/mo for certain services). Multiple reviews raise issues with pricing transparency and the refund policy—refunds tied to new resident rents, long delays in refund processing (including a family reporting no refund after three years), and deposit disputes are recurring complaints. Prospective residents should request a clear written explanation of the contract, buy-in terms, refund mechanisms and estate-share provisions and seek legal or financial advice if uncertain.

Unit features and operational details: Common operational complaints include the lack of in-unit laundry and dishwashers in many apartments; several reviews noted laundry is located down the hall and in-unit washer/dryer installation can be an extra cost (e.g., $1,000). Some residents wanted larger apartments or different layout options. COVID-related restrictions were mentioned as affecting socialization in the past, though many reviews speak to pre-COVID activity levels. There are also comments that the community can feel institutional to those seeking a homier environment.

Patterns, recommendations, and caveats: The major takeaways are that Peace Village offers a high-quality, well-maintained campus with strong food and activity programs and many staff who are praised for caring and engagement. These strengths create a warm, active community that many reviewers highly recommend. The most important caveats are financial and administrative: examine contract terms, buy-in amounts, monthly fees, refund policies and estate-share language carefully; ask for recent examples of how complaints are handled. Also tour multiple apartment types to verify unit size, in-unit amenities (dishwasher, laundry), and accessibility for any mobility needs. Finally, when memory care is a consideration, get up-to-date information on staffing, operations and resident experiences in that specific unit.

Bottom line: For many prospective residents looking for an active, scenic, maintenance-free lifestyle with excellent dining and a robust activities calendar, Peace Village scores very highly—staff and campus quality repeatedly earn praise. For those sensitive to contract terms, buy-in/refund arrangements, accessibility issues, or who require guaranteed consistent high-level assisted/memory care, the community warrants careful due diligence prior to commitment.
