    Assisted living wonderful, memory lacking

I chose this community for my father and the assisted living was wonderful - super clean, home-like, cozy, with home-cooked, healthy meals and compassionate, knowledgeable nurses and CNAs who showed respectful, family-oriented care. I'm grateful for the attentive staff and dignified end-of-life care, but beware: the memory-care unit lacked sufficient nursing/staff, activities, and the dining we were promised, so we ultimately moved him elsewhere - I highly recommend the assisted living, not the memory care.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in these reviews is strongly positive about the assisted living side of The Heathers - Ringwood but consistently critical about its memory care services. Multiple reviewers emphasize a very clean, home-like environment with compassionate, knowledgeable staff and home-cooked meals, and they describe an easy transition process and strong family involvement. Conversely, several reviewers report that memory care lacks sufficient staffing, nursing presence, activities, and appropriate equipment, and that those shortcomings led some families to move residents elsewhere.

Care quality and staff performance are the most frequently praised elements. Reviewers repeatedly describe staff as compassionate, caring, respectful, and dedicated. Skilled nurses and CNAs are specifically called out, and reviewers attribute high standards of care and successful, smooth transitions (for example, transitions for a parent) to the competencies of the team. End-of-life care is also mentioned positively, and family involvement is noted as welcomed and supported. These consistent positive comments create the impression that when staffing and resources are present, staff deliver attentive, respectful, and skilled care.

Facility and atmosphere receive uniformly positive remarks. The property is described as very clean, cozy, and home-like. Several reviewers note a welcoming, secure environment where residents appear well cared for. That sense of a comfortable, residential setting is reinforced by comments about home-cooked meals and a general feeling of a family-style atmosphere.

Dining is a mixed but generally positive theme: multiple reviewers praise the home-cooked, healthy meals, suggesting the kitchen contributes significantly to the homelike feel. At the same time, at least one review notes that dining options were not as originally presented, indicating a discrepancy between marketing or initial expectations and actual daily choices. This suggests that while food quality is valued, the variety or specific options available may not always match what prospective residents or families expect.

Activities and programming are an area of concern, especially for memory care residents. A lack of activities is called out explicitly, and this shortfall is tied to the broader criticism of memory care. Reviewers indicate that memory care residents need more structured engagement and that current programming may be insufficient. Combined with reports of inadequate staffing and nursing presence in memory care, the limited activities point to gaps in daily, therapeutic, or social support for residents with cognitive impairment.

Memory care emerges as the primary pattern of negative feedback. Multiple reviewers contrast strong assisted living services with weaker memory care offerings: insufficient staff/nursing presence, lack of memory-care-specific equipment, limited activities, and unmet needs leading some families to move residents to other facilities. This pattern suggests an inconsistency in service levels across the facility — assisted living appears to operate at a high standard, while memory care has resource and programmatic shortfalls.

In sum, The Heathers - Ringwood appears to offer a clean, secure, and home-like assisted living environment with compassionate, skilled staff and well-regarded meals. However, prospective residents and families should be cautious about memory care placement: reviews repeatedly identify staffing, activity programming, equipment, and nursing presence as areas needing improvement, and some families experienced relocations because those needs were not met. If memory care is the requirement, families should verify staffing levels, nurse availability, activity schedules, and the specific memory-care services and equipment before deciding.

    About The Heathers - Ringwood

The Heathers - Ringwood sits on three acres of rural land, where old trees, birds, and wildlife make for peaceful surroundings, and the Garifo Family leads the place with a focus on family values, so you usually notice a friendly, caring environment right away because staff call it "La Familia," and they work hard to create a sense of home. The community stays small, with only nine residents in a large, updated seven-bedroom ranch house, with five private suites and two double suites, which means everyone gets plenty of personal attention and privacy, plus private bathrooms in each suite. The common spaces have large fireplaces, screened-in porches, and small reading nooks, and you see large dining rooms where people eat home-cooked meals together, and some residents like joining in cooking or helping plan meals, and the staff always make sure to fit special diets, including diabetes-friendly options.

There's a focus on assisted living and memory care, and the care partners take time to learn every resident's routines and needs. Families can visit as they wish, and staff offer help with dressing, bathing, medication, transfers, and toileting. Memory care programs prioritize activities that help with mental stimulation, and the Enlight Lifestyle Enrichment Program helps match daily activities to each person's interests. For safety and well-being, the house is equipped with emergency alert systems and safety adaptations, with 24/7 supervision, non-ambulatory support, and state licensing, so families know care is always at hand. Residents' days fill up with things like crafts, music, games, gardening out in the yard or greenhouse, and sunset watching, and sometimes they go on excursions to art fairs, farmers' markets, or just out for a walk along the outdoor paths that circle the property's gardens and pavilion.

Community services cover housekeeping, laundry including dry cleaning, linen changes, and all utilities wrapped up into the monthly fee. There's a telephone in each room and technology that helps families keep in touch, which matters when people want update and connection. Residents also get transportation services, and there's parking for visitors. Some people use the on-site hair and nail salon, and the fire pit and outdoor covered areas make for good gathering spots on warm evenings. Move-in coordination helps people settle in at their own pace.

The place has a strong personal approach, with an emphasis on maintaining dignity and respect as needs change, whether for long-term assisted living, memory care for dementia, or short-term respite stays. Each resident has choices between private or shared rooms, and the small community size encourages staff and residents to know each other well. Living at The Heathers - Ringwood means being in a peaceful, secure, and family-like setting where daily life is steady and attentive, and the approach is always rooted in respect and care.
