    Clean Christ-centered facility with issues

I placed my father here and overall I'm very pleased: the facility is spotless, well-run and Christ-centered with friendly, dedicated staff, lots of activities, good food and helpful therapy that eased the transition. Care is often outstanding and above-and-beyond, but they can be short-staffed-bedside manner sometimes suffers, rooms are small, and a few staff behaviors need improvement. I would still recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall impression Reviews for Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke are strongly positive overall, with a consistent emphasis on compassionate, friendly, and engaged staff, a very clean and well-maintained facility, and a warm, Christ-centered environment. Many reviewers explicitly state they would recommend the community and describe their experiences as outstanding or wonderful. Several notes of praise focus on personalized treatment — staff calling residents by name and making families feel welcome — and on volunteers who supplement care.

Care quality and staff Care quality is a major strength in the reviews. Multiple summaries highlight well-trained, knowledgeable staff who provide compassionate, above-and-beyond care and help residents adjust during transitions. Physical therapy services receive favorable mention as helpful. The prevailing sentiment is that clinical and caregiving teams are attentive and caring, often going beyond basic expectations to support residents and families. However, there are isolated but important concerns: a few reviewers reported that some nursing staff lack bedside manner, and one review flagged inappropriate behavior by kitchen staff. These comments indicate occasional lapses in interpersonal professionalism that contrast with the dominant positive narrative and may warrant managerial attention.

Facilities and environment Facility cleanliness and upkeep are repeatedly praised — descriptors such as "very clean," "neat," and "remodeled" appear across reviews. The overall physical environment is portrayed as pleasant and well-run, which contributes to positive resident experiences. That said, space is a noted downside for some: reviewers mentioned tiny or confining rooms, suggesting that private living spaces may be small and could affect resident comfort for those who value larger rooms.

Dining and activities Dining is generally described positively, with at least one reviewer calling the food "very good." Activities are available and several reviewers appreciate having many choices. Conversely, a concern raised by some is that the activities can feel juvenile or "preschool/boring," indicating a mismatch between programming and the interests or cognitive levels of some residents. This suggests an opportunity to further diversify activities, perhaps offering more varied or age-appropriate options to better engage different resident groups.

Operations and staffing levels A recurring operational concern is short-staffing. Multiple summaries mention being short-staffed and an inability to provide adequate care as a result. This contrasts with other reviews that praise responsiveness, indicating variability in staffing levels or coverage. Short-staffing can exacerbate problems like reduced bedside manner or slower responses to resident needs, so it is a salient area for management focus.

Patterns and recommendations Taken together, the reviews portray Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke as a caring, clean, and faith-oriented community with strong strengths in personalized caregiving, a welcoming family atmosphere, and solid ancillary services (like physical therapy). The most consistent negatives are operational: staffing shortages, occasional professional conduct concerns (nursing bedside manner and a kitchen-staff incident), activity programming that may not suit all residents, and limited room size. Leadership should prioritize addressing staffing consistency, reinforce professional conduct expectations across all departments, and consider expanding or tailoring activity offerings and reviewing room configurations or expectations so prospective residents understand space limitations. These targeted actions could reduce the few recurrent complaints while preserving the many strengths that reviewers repeatedly praise.

About Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke

Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke gives care for seniors in a setting meant to feel welcoming and secure, and folks looking for a place with different levels of support can find things here like independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care for dementia or Alzheimer's, and even short-term rehab and respite care if all that's needed is a break or some recovery time, so there's plenty of options depending on what a person needs and how much help they might want every day. The staff works alongside families to help meet not just the physical needs but also the spiritual and mental needs of residents, as the place is owned and run by the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Church and wants everyone to feel respect and Christian love regardless of their background-there's a policy that says care's given to all, regardless of race, color, national origin, handicap, or age, so folks really are welcome.

People who move in can pick from studios, one-bedroom, semi-private, or even two-bedroom rooms, and every spot has access to cozy indoor spaces, outdoor areas, and private rooms if folks prefer quiet moments, which helps everyone find a comfortable routine no matter how social they like to be. Meals get provided, which saves seniors from needing to cook, and there are daily activities to help folks keep moving or connect with neighbors so no one feels left out, plus therapy like physical, occupational, and speech therapy's available right on-site. Skilled staff are always present 24 hours a day-you can count on help for things like getting up from bed, managing diabetes and insulin, or responding if someone has an emergency.

Specialized care's offered too, including skilled nursing and memory support, and there's even palliative care for folks with serious illnesses. For families or caregivers needing temporary help, respite services are available, and palliative support aims to keep everyone comfortable. The facility has plans and pricing that fit different needs-whether someone pays privately, uses insurance, social security, veteran's benefits, Medicare or Medicaid, there's a system for high, medium, and low care needs, as well as separate fees for things like a community or buy-in fee, and the staff helps explain how that all works. Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke has earned high marks, getting the U.S. News & World Report Best Nursing Home Award and a Five Star rating from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which says a lot about how hard the staff works to keep care standards up.

Tours are encouraged and you can arrange to see the community, meet the staff, and see how folks live day-to-day, so anyone who's looking can get a good feel before making any decision. Seniors of all backgrounds and denominations can feel welcome, and the whole place is designed to help people age with dignity and comfort, with support from a caring team who values each resident's needs-physical, social, and spiritual-each day.
