    Compassionate staff, excellent care overall

I'm so grateful we chose Glenwood of Staunton - the staff and administrators are compassionate, attentive, and truly go above and beyond; my dad loves the meals, activities and social life, and the building is clean, nicely decorated and feels like home. Call lights, therapy, outings and family support are excellent, and I've seen genuine care from aides and leadership. My only concerns are occasional understaffing/long waits and frequent power outages - they need a backup generator and less impersonal corporate interference - but overall I highly recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews for The Glenwood Supportive Living of Staunton is strongly positive, with repeated emphasis on high-quality front-line care, a friendly culture, and a clean, comfortable living environment. The most consistent praise centers on the caregiving staff: reviewers repeatedly describe aides and nursing staff as caring, compassionate, and willing to go above and beyond. Multiple family members report prompt help and responsive call-light service, and several accounts describe staff as treating residents like family. Administration also receives favorable comments, including specific mention of an administrator named Stephanie who is described as caring and easy to talk with.

Facility and accommodations are frequently complimented. Reviews characterize the building as clean, newly maintained, and nicely decorated, with an apartment-like feel in many units (studio layouts with separate sleeping areas and private rooms that include microwaves). Amenities mentioned include on-site laundry, a coffee area, and conveniences that reduce resident burden (residents do not have to cook or clean). The facility is noted for being affordable by some reviewers, who describe it as the best-priced option among alternatives, and at least one long-term resident (8 years) indicates satisfaction with staying there long-term.

Dining, activities, and therapy are other strong themes. Multiple reviewers note that residents enjoy the food and that family members’ loved ones "love the meals." The Glenwood appears to provide a lively social calendar: scheduled activities, games and bingo, lots of live entertainment, and organized trips and outings. In-house therapy services and medication supervision are called out positively, and reviewers appreciate the balance of support with resident freedom (residents may come and go within reason). Hearing-related services or evaluations were mentioned in one summary (a Bell Tone/having hearing evaluated and possible hearing aids), indicating some attention to sensory needs.

Despite the many positives, several consistent concerns appear and should be noted. A subset of reviewers reports staffing challenges — understaffing and longer waits for assistance — and a few mention occasional cleanliness lapses such as cobwebs. There are multiple comments about difficulties with the corporate or ownership side: some families describe dealing with corporate as a "nightmare," impersonal, or problematic, and at least one reviewer explicitly recommends finding another facility because of corporate-management issues despite praising the on-site staff. Operational issues surfaced as well: frequent power outages were reported and reviewers suggested the need for a backup generator. These negatives are not universal across reviews but recur enough to be noteworthy.

In sum, The Glenwood Supportive Living of Staunton is portrayed by most reviewers as a warm, well-run community with strong direct-care staff, good food, active programming, and clean, comfortable accommodations at a competitive price. Families repeatedly express relief and gratitude, calling placement there a good decision. The main areas for improvement are organizational/ownership-level responsiveness, staffing stability, consistent housekeeping detail, and emergency infrastructure (backup power). Prospective residents and families should weigh the highly praised quality of on-site caregiving and community life against occasional operational and corporate-level concerns; visiting in person and asking about staffing ratios, emergency power systems, and housekeeping standards would help validate current conditions.
