    Warm community, but safety concerns

I found a warm, clean, family-like community with attentive, kind, and compassionate staff, excellent memory care, great food, and lots of activities - truly feels like a home away from home. I'm grateful for the care my loved one received and would recommend it. However, I also witnessed worrying issues (high staff turnover, abrupt firings and gossip, billing concerns, and a medication error that led to hospitalization), so be sure to ask about staffing stability and billing transparency.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in these reviews is predominantly positive, with repeated praise for the facility’s warm, family-like atmosphere and a broad set of resident services. Many reviewers emphasize that staff and residents form a close, engaged community — described as a "home away from home" — with frequent outreach, visiting pets, seminars, and active programming that help keep residents involved and socially connected. Cleanliness is a consistent positive point: multiple reviewers describe the building as always clean and pleasant-smelling, and facilities such as the courtyard, meeting room, attractive décor, and nicely appointed dining room receive favorable mentions.

Care quality and staffing are central themes. A majority of reviewers highlight compassionate, attentive, and quick-to-respond staff and laud the memory care program specifically as exemplary. Several comments single out management as outstanding, flexible, and responsive; these same voices note that residents are well cared for, engaged in activities, and enjoy excellent food. The presence of many group activities, exercise programs, and convenient services like an on-site beauty shop with affordable haircuts adds to the impression of a full-service, resident-focused environment.

However, the reviews are not uniform; a notable minority raise serious concerns that temper the overall positive picture. The most significant negatives include reports of high staff turnover, allegations of mistreatment and staff antagonism, and at least one allegation of a medication error that led to hospitalization. Additional complaints include reported billing overcharges and troubling accounts of employee terminations and HR practices (for example, a long-tenured employee reportedly fired after vacation with immediate job reposting and gossip). These negative reports suggest inconsistency in resident experience and possible lapses in supervision, communication, or clinical protocol in isolated cases.

Taken together, the pattern is one of a facility that, for many residents and families, delivers excellent day-to-day living: clean, well-managed spaces, active programming, caring staff, good food, and strong memory care. At the same time, there are clear warning signs raised by other reviewers that merit attention: administrative and HR practices, staff retention, medication management, and billing transparency are areas where some reviewers experienced problems. The juxtaposition of many strong positive testimonials with several severe negative allegations indicates either uneven performance over time or divergent experiences between different units, shifts, or individuals.

For prospective residents and families, the reviews support scheduling an in-person tour that includes: observing staff-resident interactions across different parts of the day; asking for specifics about staff turnover rates, orientation and ongoing training, and medication administration protocols; requesting documentation or explanation of billing practices and sample statements; and speaking privately with residents and family members about their experiences. If memory care is a priority, request to meet the memory care team, review their credentials and staffing ratios, and ask for references. Finally, follow-up questions about how the facility investigates and resolves complaints or adverse events (for example, medication errors) will help clarify whether negative reports reflect isolated incidents or systemic issues.

In summary, Trenton Village Retirement is described by many reviewers as a warm, clean, and activity-rich community with compassionate staff and strong memory care; yet several serious complaints (turnover, alleged mistreatment, medication and billing issues, and HR concerns) warrant careful inquiry. The overall impression is positive but mixed — strong strengths in culture, cleanliness, activities, and many aspects of care, alongside some reported weaknesses in consistency and administrative practices that prospective residents and families should verify during visits and discussions with management.
