    Pleased with caring attentive staff

I placed my mother here and overall I'm very pleased. The staff are kind, gentle and attentive, communication is excellent and they proactively reached out during a hospitalization. The small resident load provides real individual attention, the residents and local community are welcoming, and the facility has a good reputation - CNA Courtney and RN Brooke were incredible. Pace is quiet and activities are limited; I did notice occasional negative staff behavior and insincere smiles that raised trust concerns, but I would still highly recommend this place.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The compiled reviews for Elwood Health and Living are predominantly positive, with multiple reviewers emphasizing the high quality of individualized care, the warmth of staff and residents, and strong family communication. Several reviewers explicitly state they would recommend the community or would place a family member there, reflecting a general level of satisfaction and trust among families who had direct experience.

Care quality and staff: The strongest and most consistent theme is the quality and compassion of the caregiving staff. Words used across reviews include kind, gentle, caring, attentive, and helpful. One review named specific employees (CNA Courtney and RN Brooke) with high praise, indicating that clinical care is both competent and personally meaningful. Families reported that loved ones were "taken very good care of," and that staff reached out proactively during hospitalizations, which signals good care coordination and attention to transitions. Communication with families is repeatedly called out as a positive — reviewers noted great communication and proactive outreach, suggesting management and front-line staff keep families informed and involved.

Community size, pace, and atmosphere: The facility's small resident load is highlighted as a clear advantage, producing individual attention and a welcoming, local community feel. That smaller size correlates with a quiet, slower pace that many reviewers appreciated. Several reviewers praised the residents themselves as "amazing," reinforcing a friendly, neighborly atmosphere. The community's good reputation within the area was also mentioned, which can be reassuring to prospective families who value local endorsements.

Activities and lifestyle: A consistent area for improvement is the activity program and overall stimulation. Multiple reviewers described activities as limited and the daily pace as quiet and slow. For prospective residents who need or want robust social programming, frequent outings, or a lively schedule, the community may not meet those expectations. The reviews suggest that while personal care is strong, engagement programming is constrained — likely a function of small size or staffing focus on direct care.

Concerns and variability: While most feedback is favorable, there are isolated but important negative reports about staff behavior. One summary referenced negative staff behavior, insincere smiles, and perceived deception, and reviewers expressed trust concerns. These comments indicate inconsistency in professionalism across staff members; most reviews praise staff but at least one flagged behavior that undermined trust. Because the majority of comments are positive about communication and care, this negative feedback may reflect isolated incidents rather than systemic failure, but it is nonetheless a notable pattern that management should address and that families should probe during tours and interviews.

Facilities, dining, and omissions: Review summaries did not provide detailed or repeated commentary on dining quality, physical facilities, or housekeeping, so no strong conclusions can be drawn about those aspects from the provided summaries. The absence of commentary could mean those areas are unremarkable (neither particularly praised nor criticized) or simply were not the focus of reviewers.

Overall assessment and guidance: In summary, Elwood Health and Living appears to excel at providing personalized, compassionate care in a small, community-oriented setting with strong family communication and notable individual caregivers. It is well suited for residents who prioritize attentive clinical care, a quieter environment, and a close-knit atmosphere. Prospective residents and families should be aware of limited activity offerings and should assess whether the pace matches the prospective resident's social and engagement needs. Additionally, the few reports of unprofessional behavior and trust concerns suggest it is prudent to ask specific questions about staff training, turnover, and how management addresses resident/family complaints during a visit. For many families seeking individualized attention and dependable communication, the reviews indicate Elwood Health and Living is a recommended choice; for those seeking a highly active lifestyle, further investigation is advised.
