    Warm, family-like but staffing concerns

I like this place - the staff are warm, caring and helpful, meals are good, activities (bingo, happy hour, outings) keep residents engaged, and the courtyard and common areas are pleasant and secure. Move-in was easy and my loved one settled in quickly; it feels small and family-like. That said, chronic staff turnover, spotty housekeeping, communication gaps, and occasional maintenance/HVAC problems have been frustrating. I'm comfortable recommending it for independent or assisted living, but I'd be cautious about memory-care here due to understaffing, medication/incident follow-through and safety concerns others have reported. Overall we feel well cared for, but expect tradeoffs.

About Independence Village of Fishers South

Independence Village of Fishers South offers a range of living options, including independent living, assisted living, enhanced living, memory care, and respite care, and it's a place where you'll see residents enjoying both the quiet and social sides of life because there are so many community areas, like a library with a cozy fireplace lounge, several sunrooms, a movie theater, and even a rooftop deck where folks like to relax when the weather's good. The staff helps residents with daily activities-simple things like dressing, grooming, medication, and bathing-and they also offer on-site therapy, help with home maintenance, and meal delivery if someone wants their food in their room, and the meals themselves are chef-prepared every day, served restaurant-style in a large dining room, or in private dining rooms for special occasions, which is a nice touch for birthdays and family visits, and snacks show up often, so nobody's left wanting in between meals. Residents have a choice of living arrangements, like studios and one-bedroom apartments, which are pet-friendly for small animals, and the rooms come with open-concept floor plans, plenty of natural light, and easy access to all amenities.

Residents can join plenty of programs, from life enrichment classes, games, and live music, to religious services, newspaper delivery, and day trips out in the community, with transportation and appointment coordination handled by the staff, so no need to worry about finding a ride, which is handy for banking or seeing a doctor, especially if one doesn't drive anymore. The beautiful landscaped courtyards, outdoor sitting areas, paved walking paths, and gazebo get folks outside when it's nice, and with on-site beauty salon and barbershop services-including a hair washing station and styling chair-it's easy to keep up appearances, and the fitness center gets some use with its treadmill, elliptical, and weights for those wanting a bit of exercise. There's also a dedicated memory care neighborhood offering 24-hour care from nurses trained in handling dementia and other memory impairments, and the care plans are tailored, so each resident gets the help they want, whether that's a little or a lot, and families seem to like that attention to detail.

People can pay through private funds, and the community makes a point to be inclusive, with handicap accessible features and programs designed for different needs, which you see in the growing calendar of social, educational, and recreational activities-things like live entertainment, movies, card games, religious services, library visits, and outings, that help everyone find something they enjoy and keep busy. Daily housekeeping keeps spaces clean, laundry gets done, and the buildings are kept up by 24-hour maintenance staff. There's a post office with visiting hours and daily newspaper delivery, a computer area for emails and calls, and plenty of spots to read or play games around the activity center and lounge areas, some with a big-screen TV for movie nights or sports games.

The community wants residents to have a maintenance-free living experience, whether it's someone needing full assisted living, memory care, or someone who wants to keep living independently but have support close by as needs change. The focus stays on comfort, safety, and helping everyone keep their routines, try new things, and feel at home, and there always seems to be something on the calendar or a quiet spot to settle down with a pet and a good book from the well-stocked library.
