    Staff like family, excellent recovery

I can't say enough good things - the staff felt like family: compassionate, professional, and always helpful. My loved one received excellent nursing and therapy (PT/OT), the facility and rooms were spotless and home-like, the food and activities were wonderful, and communication and discharge planning were outstanding. We saw real recovery, felt comforted and well cared for, and I would highly recommend Century Villa.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive: the majority of commenters emphasize compassionate, attentive staff and consistently high-quality day-to-day care. Nursing staff, CNAs and therapists receive repeated praise for skill, professionalism and personal attention. Many families describe staff as warm, family-like and willing to go "above and beyond" — doing small things that make residents comfortable, sharing recipes, or making extra efforts during difficult times. Therapy (PT/OT) is frequently singled out as effective and encouraging, with residents looking forward to sessions and reporting measurable recovery and improvement.

Facility upkeep and environment are recurring strengths. Reviewers repeatedly note cleanliness, pleasant smells, and a well-maintained physical plant. The property and outdoor areas (terraces, ponds, fountains and seating areas) are described as beautiful and calming, contributing to a peaceful, country-like setting that residents and families appreciate. The dining experience is another clear plus: reviewers comment on good, appetizing meals, guest meals being available, and even staff sharing recipes to evoke memories for residents. Activities and social programming are described as fresh, well-thought-out and engaging, supporting social connection and daily enjoyment.

Communication and administration earn many favorable mentions. Specific staff members — including admissions and social work personnel — are praised by name for making transitions from hospital to rehab seamless, for maintaining strong communication, and for being responsive and trustworthy. Multiple reviews credit the leadership and front-line administrators with being hands-on, professional and engaged in direct patient care. The facility's COVID-19 response is also noted as effective: reviewers say staff protected residents, maintained routines, and provided safety while preserving normal life where possible.

Despite the overwhelmingly positive profile, a small but significant set of concerns appears across reviews. Several reviewers report short-staffing or express concern about staffing levels; one review alleges a serious incident where a resident fell and remained on the floor for hours awaiting help. Related to care continuity, a subset of comments describe a perceived decline after a change in ownership, with suggestions of more money-driven management and inadequate follow-up after an adverse event or a resident death. There is at least one account alleging refusal of admission based on age (an alleged instance of age discrimination), and some families raise privacy concerns about staff presence at windows during visits. A few notes reference communication lapses, including not being notified about a possible second stroke for a resident and an initial medication delay that reviewers attribute to hospital/physician transition rather than the facility itself.

In balance, Century Villa Health Care & Rehabilitation is described by most reviewers as an excellent choice in its area — offering skilled clinical care, strong rehabilitative services, clean facilities, good food and a warm, family-like culture. The recurring positive themes (compassionate staff, strong therapy, cleanliness, attractive grounds, and solid leadership) are robust and frequent. The negative reports are less common but serious when they appear: alleged neglect after a fall, concerns about staffing levels, and perceptions of management changes affecting care quality. Prospective residents and families would likely find the facility's strengths compelling, but should also ask direct questions during tours about current staffing ratios, fall-prevention and response protocols, incident notification procedures, how ownership/management changes have been handled, and privacy policies for visits. Those steps will help confirm the consistently positive experiences described by most reviewers while addressing the isolated but important concerns that were raised.

About Century Villa Health Care & Rehabilitation

Century Villa Health Care & Rehabilitation, found in Howard County and run by Century Villa Health Care since 1987, is a non-profit health care and rehabilitation center that's also a continuing care retirement community, and it's got a pretty steady occupancy at around 74%, which shows folks come and stay a while, and with an overall grade of B-minus, it sits firmly in the middle range, neither perfect nor poor. The community is certified for Medicare and Medicaid, so many seniors can access services here, and they provide long-term care, independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing with 24-hour care. The facility's had good inspection scores, most recently earning A grades, so you can see they've kept standards up over the years.

Century Villa's team includes registered nurses, LPNs, CNAs, and professional therapists, and you can find medical staff, specialists, and a wide group of people working together, including an executive director named Michael Gerig and a community liaison named Regina Downing, to deliver care that suits each resident's needs, whether short-term after surgery or for longer stays. Folks talk about the therapy team being helpful and the physical therapy getting good reviews, with a focus on helping people recover after hip or knee replacements, strokes, or injuries, providing joint mobilization, wound care, and exercises for better walking or balance. Workers also help with diabetes management, cardiac therapy, pain management, and lymphedema care, and you'll see respiratory therapy, nutritional counseling, speech and memory activities, and special units for different health needs, including bariatric and orthopedic rehab.

Century Villa has newly renovated short-term rehab suites, all with flat-screen TVs, phones, and daily newspapers, and if you need outpatient therapy, they do that too, like occupational, speech, and physical therapy, always aiming for residents to regain as much independence as possible through personalized plans. The place does a good job having a family council for loved ones to stay involved, though there isn't a resident council right now. Connected with the Century Fields Retirement Community, Century Villa Health Care & Rehabilitation runs as a licensed and certified center with a commitment to giving comprehensive care, and it supports long-term health in a welcoming way that doesn't feel high-pressure. Seniors get services like medical alert systems, regular housekeeping, dining, private and group eating rooms, beauty salons, a barbershop, a gift shop, daily activities, and even transportation for outings or appointments.

Those needing rehabilitation or help after surgery or illness can expect to find support to restore health and work on getting back as much mobility and independence as possible, and with decades of experience in Howard County, Century Villa Health Care & Rehabilitation keeps focused on straightforward care, respect, and giving residents tools to live as well as they can, whatever their health level.
