    Caring staff but management unstable

I placed my parent here and I'm grateful for the genuinely caring, friendly staff, clean/beautiful building, very good food, busy activities and a pleasant dog-friendly courtyard - residents seem happy and well looked after. Nursing generally provides vigilant medication assistance and the memory-care wing felt secure and compassionate. That said, recent management turnover has caused billing confusion, communication lapses and some medication/handling mistakes, plus occasional laundry/lost-item issues and pest reports. Overall it's a loving, safe option I would recommend with caution about leadership instability and extra fees.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across reviews is mixed but leans toward strong appreciation for frontline caregivers and the physical environment, tempered by serious administrative, safety, and operational concerns. Many families praise the warmth, compassion, and attentiveness of nursing and caregiving staff. Frequent comments call staff "caring," "amazing," and ‘‘like angels,’’ and multiple reviewers credited staff with excellent hands-on care, hospice coordination, and emotional support during end-of-life scenarios. Numerous accounts describe a clean, attractive building with well-kept apartments, accessible design (wide hallways, one-level layout), and amenities like a salon, theater, courtyard, and activity rooms. Dining is commonly highlighted as a strength: reviewers mention good food presented in a restaurant-like dining area. Memory care is often called out as secure and nurturing, with residents able to socialize safely. For many residents the community provides a family-like atmosphere, socialization opportunities, and activities (art projects, cooking classes, shopping trips, bible study, entertainment), and the community accepts Medicaid, which is an important feature for budget-conscious families.

Despite these strengths, recurring and significant concerns emerge around management, safety, and consistency. A dominant theme is management instability: multiple reviews reference frequent changes in executive leadership, firings after acquisition by outside management, and low morale linked to those changes. This instability is associated with a range of operational problems — unclear or confusing billing practices (including unnotified changes and a reported private-room surcharge for Medicaid waiver residents), deposit/prioritization policies that bothered families, and inconsistent communication from office leadership. Several reviewers explicitly described difficulty reaching leadership or receiving timely responses about concerns.

Safety and quality-of-care issues are another major cluster of complaints. There are multiple reports of medication errors, improper medication handling, dosage changes without clear communication, and shortages of daily medications; these are serious and recurring concerns for families dependent on reliable med management. Staffing problems and understaffing were mentioned alongside specific incidents (falls, injuries, hospitalizations) that raised questions about supervision and safety—particularly for residents who require physical assistance or close monitoring. Some reviewers described instances of theft (lost/stolen iPad), laundry mix-ups, and pest problems (ant infestation), which point to lapses in operational oversight. A few reviewers also raised privacy or restrictive-environment concerns (e.g., lockdown metal doors with small windows) and recounted disputes over refunds or perceived untrustworthy business practices.

Programming, activities, and community life show mixed reports. Many reviewers praise the variety and quality of activities — art, bingo, exercises, outings, and more — and say residents are busy and engaged. Yet others reported few activities, limited activity spaces, or abrupt discontinuation of specific programs (for example, the YMCA program). Outdoor and communal spaces are appreciated by some, but others consider outdoor areas limited. The size of apartments receives mixed feedback: doubles are described as roomy enough for shared living, while some single rooms are viewed as small but adequate.

Financial transparency and affordability are repeated themes. While the community accepts Medicaid and is described as Medicaid-friendly, families report confusing billing practices, unexpected surcharges for Medicaid waiver private rooms, and high overall costs that make affordability a concern for some. A few reviews describe aggressive or unclear financial policies (deposit prioritization, disputes over refunds), creating distrust among certain families.

In sum, Rittenhouse Village at Northside appears to deliver strong frontline caregiving, a well-maintained physical environment, good food, and meaningful programming for many residents — attributes that lead many families to highly recommend the community. However, persistent and serious complaints around management turnover, medication management, staffing adequacy, billing transparency, and operational consistency are substantial and recurring. Prospective families should weigh the consistently positive reports about caregiver compassion and facility cleanliness against the operational red flags. Recommended due diligence before choosing this community includes: asking specific questions about current leadership stability and staff levels, reviewing medication management protocols and incident history, clarifying billing policies and any Medicaid-related surcharges in writing, touring to inspect activity and outdoor spaces, and getting direct references from current residents/family members about both care quality and administrative responsiveness.
