    Warm attentive family style care

I work at this small, clean, family-style nursing home and I love it. Staff are attentive, reliable, and put residents first - the atmosphere is warm and homelike, residents are well cared for and happy, and communication with families is prompt. Great teamwork, excellent training and advancement opportunities, and overall high quality of care make it one of the best places I've worked (not perfect, but close).

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The reviews for Hickory Creek at Peru are overwhelmingly positive and consistently emphasize a warm, family-like atmosphere supported by attentive, caring staff. Multiple reviewers describe the facility as clean, cozy, and comfortable, and frequently use terms like "homey," "family," and "cozy little facility" to convey the environment. The dominant impression is of a small, tightly knit community where staff and residents know each other well and where staff routinely place residents' needs first.

Care quality and staff: Care quality is a primary strength highlighted across the reviews. Reviewers repeatedly note that residents are well cared for and that the staff are attentive, loving, and reliable. There is frequent praise for the nursing team and for aides, with specific references to strong teamwork, positive attitudes, and staff who go above and beyond. Communication with families is noted as prompt and collaborative — staff are described as willing to work with families and to provide updates. The pattern of comments (best staff, amazing staff, staff who love the residents) indicates consistent day-to-day performance rather than isolated positives.

Facilities and environment: The facility is described as clean and comfortable, with an inviting atmosphere that encourages visits. Multiple mentions of the place being "nice and small" or on an "awesome hill" suggest an appealing physical setting. The small size is framed mainly as an advantage—creating a family-like feel and allowing staff to know residents personally—but it is also a characteristic that could imply limits in capacity or breadth of services for some prospective residents.

Workplace culture and staffing development: Several reviews come from staff perspectives, calling Hickory Creek a great place to work with positive coworker relationships. Reviewers note opportunities for learning, career advancement support, and availability of training or schooling for advancement. Statements such as "best place I've ever worked" and references to supportive teams imply low internal conflict and strong staff morale, which likely contributes to resident care quality.

Activities, resident life, and visitation: Activity programming and healthy living receive positive mentions; reviewers cite "excellent activities" and an overall healthy living environment. Residents are described as respectful and happy, and the community is said to be open to visits, reinforcing the welcoming, family-like culture. These comments paint a picture of an engaged resident population with meaningful daily programming.

Noted limitations and gaps: Negative feedback in these summaries is minimal and vague. The clearest caution is a phrasing that the facility is "near-perfect" but "not perfect," indicating occasional unspecified issues. Additionally, the frequent description of the facility as small is largely positive in the reviews but could be a limitation for those seeking larger-campus amenities or highly specialized medical services; the reviews do not discuss capacity, availability of specialized clinical services, pricing, or outcomes. There is also little explicit information about dining quality, clinical specialties, or management beyond staff support and training, so prospective families may want to seek more details in those areas.

Conclusion: Hickory Creek at Peru consistently earns high marks for its caring staff, strong teamwork, homey environment, cleanliness, and activity programming. The small size and family-like culture are repeated strengths that help staff know and prioritize residents, and the workplace culture appears supportive with growth opportunities for employees. The main caveats are the absence of detailed information about some operational aspects (dining, specialized clinical services, capacity) and the generic mention that the facility is "not perfect," suggesting occasional issues that are not elaborated on in these summaries. Overall, these reviews portray a tightly run, compassionate, and well-staffed small nursing/home-like environment that many reviewers — including staff — clearly value.

    About Hickory Creek at Peru

Hickory Creek at Peru sits in a comfortable and welcoming health care center in Peru with room for up to 36 residents, offering both short-term rehab and long-term skilled nursing. American Senior Communities LLC manages the facility for a for-profit corporation, and it's affiliated with Hickory Creek Healthcare Foundation, so folks who visit usually notice the staff's dedication right away, since they have experience and they care about senior care. Nurses, healthcare aides, and an interdisciplinary team look after everyone, working with physical, occupational, and speech therapy when needed, always focusing on the residents' independence and quality of life. There's a nurse turnover rate of 48.1%, and the staff provides, on average, 3.21 nursing hours per resident each day, with experts always nearby. The health department has found some infection-related deficiencies in their reports, so you might want to look into inspection details if you're thinking about staying there. Services stretch across Indiana, but here, you'll find programs to help people get back strength and abilities after strokes, heart troubles, or surgery, through the Road to Recovery program, which brings together staff, doctors, family, and residents to plan goals within the first three days. They help with wound care, fall prevention, mobility, contracture management, wheelchair use, strength-building, and aerobic conditioning, all meant to keep folks mobile and improve daily life. Long-term care stays happen under the watch of the resident's physician, and short-term respite is there too, so caregivers can rest or recover after illnesses. Hospice and palliative care bring comfort and support during serious illness, with help from local hospice companies, nurses, aides, social workers, and volunteers. Payment options like Medicaid are available, and Medicaid specialists can help too. The building is described as home-like and secure, and while every stay can look a bit different depending on the needs, the goal is always to support the highest possible level of independence for every resident.
