    Caring staff, clean home, recommended

I placed my parents here and I'm very pleased - the staff are caring, professional, and truly go above and beyond, treating residents like family. The building is bright, homey and impeccably clean, meals are delicious and flexible, and dining is social. Engaging activities (Friday bingo, Mass and other weekly events), medication and mobility assistance, help with bathing/dressing, and transport to appointments gave me real peace of mind. One caution: management changed (formerly Cedar View) and there has been some decline - one resident fell and transferred out, though staff arranged excellent follow-up care. Overall I highly recommend this safe, compassionate assisted-living home.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews for Homestead Assisted Living of Hays is strongly positive, with frequent and consistent praise for the quality of care, the staff, the food, and the homelike environment. The most prominent theme is the caliber of the caregiving team: reviewers repeatedly describe staff as caring, compassionate, attentive, and willing to go above and beyond. Multiple accounts emphasize that staff treat residents like family, provide personalized attention, and are consistently cheerful and welcoming. Attentive nursing and help with activities of daily living — including medication assistance, showering, dressing, and mobility support — are highlighted as reliable and reassuring services that contribute to family members’ peace of mind.

The facility itself is described as clean, well-maintained, and attractive. Positive adjectives used across reviews include beautiful, inviting, bright, cozy, and impeccably clean. Reviewers also note outdoor areas and a dining space that supports social interaction. Daily housekeeping services such as bed making and laundry are commonly mentioned, reinforcing the impression of a well-run, home-like environment. Several reviews specifically call out that residents felt loved and well cared for, with one reviewer noting that their parent experienced the "happiest years" of their life while living there and another describing a peaceful transition and celebration of a 93rd birthday.

Dining and nutrition receive strong, specific praise. The facility provides three meals a day from a broad, flexible menu with delicious food, customizable breakfasts, tray delivery upon request, and the option for family to join meals. Reviewers mention the dining room as an important social venue. These specifics — variety, flexibility, quality, and family inclusivity — appear repeatedly and contribute noticeably to resident satisfaction. Complementing meals, the activity program is described as engaging and varied: regular offerings such as Friday bingo, weekly activities, and faith-based services (including Catholic mass) are cited as valued options that support social engagement and spiritual needs.

Staff responsiveness and teamwork are recurring strengths. Reviewers describe staff who consistently greet residents, collaborate to improve living conditions, and support residents day and night. Names of specific staff members (for example, a caregiver named Kathy) are mentioned in a positive context, indicating meaningful personal relationships. Transportation to medical appointments and other practical supports are also appreciated features mentioned by multiple reviewers.

Noteworthy concerns are relatively limited but important to mention. A small number of reviews reference a safety incident in which a resident fell and was subsequently transferred to another facility; this appears to be an isolated report but is a serious event that prospective families may want to clarify. Additionally, several reviewers indicate changes in leadership or management quality: while many reviews praise management as easy to work with, a few specifically state there has been a decline since the facility was formerly known as Cedar View, and one explicitly mentions "bad management now." These comments suggest some variability in administrative performance or recent organizational change that may be worth investigating further during tours or discussions with current staff and leadership.

In summary, Homestead Assisted Living of Hays earns strong positive marks for its direct caregiving, homelike atmosphere, cleanliness, quality dining, and engaging activities. The dominant impression across the reviews is of a warm, supportive community where residents feel comfortable, well-fed, and cared for like family, giving relatives considerable peace of mind. The primary caveats are a reported isolated safety incident and a handful of comments about recent management decline; these concerns do not dominate the reviews but are significant enough that prospective residents and families should address them directly with facility leadership when evaluating placement.

About Homestead Assisted Living of Hays

Homestead Assisted Living of Hays is a family-operated senior living community with a welcoming and cozy atmosphere where residents and staff share a family-like bond, and you can almost always find someone chatting in the common areas, whether it's the gathering room, the dining room, or out in the courtyard when the weather's nice, because the space itself feels well-kept, clean, and comfortable, just like home should, and the rooms are nice-sized so residents can bring their own things and set them up how they like. The community offers assisted living with certified staff and licensed nurses on site at all hours, always ready to help with daily tasks like showering, cleaning, and dressing when needed, and transportation in a designated van ensures residents can get to medical appointments. Personalized care gets adjusted through regular assessments to fit each resident's needs, and there's support for residents with diabetes, mobility challenges, incontinence, or memory issues, which means there's specialized memory care for those with Alzheimer's or dementia. Meals are prepared with quality ingredients and served in the dining room. Residents who wish to nourish their spirit can visit the chapel, and there are devotional activities alongside regular weekly events like bingo and Catholic mass, while on-site and offsite activities keep everyone engaged socially, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Family pets are welcome, and the facility values independence, working hard to help each person stay as independent as possible. Emergency communication systems are in place, health care services are available, and the staff, who treat residents with respect and individuality, help everyone feel safe and supported. The community offers a few different floor plans, including studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom options that residents can make their own. Homestead Assisted Living of Hays tries to give a sense of comfort, ease, and belonging for aging adults who may need extra help but want to live in a place that feels familiar and supportive.
