    Warm staff, clean, minor issues

I placed my mom here and I'm very pleased - the staff are phenomenal, warm, know residents by name, respond quickly, and provide excellent care, medication management and hospice support. Meals are better than average and the bright, clean, homelike facility has spacious studios with large bathrooms and kitchenettes, plus nice common areas and a convenient location. Downsides: it feels understaffed at times, CNA consistency is a concern, and we hit maintenance issues (missing bedframe/mattress on the floor, nonworking oven/no microwave). Overall it's affordable for the area, my mom likes it, and I'd recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment about Twin Oaks Assisted Living of Lansing is strongly positive, centered largely on the quality of staff and the caring atmosphere. Multiple reviewers emphasize that staff are attentive, compassionate, and quick to respond; nurses and medication management receive repeated praise. The leadership and direction of the facility were singled out positively, and many comments describe a teamwork or family-like culture among employees. These human-care factors are the dominant strengths in the reviews and are credited with delivering personalized attention — staff often know residents by name and are described as going above and beyond routine responsibilities.

Facility and accommodations are also a clear strength. Reviewers describe the building as clean, bright, airy, and homelike, with spacious rooms and large bathrooms. Studio apartment options with kitchenettes and provided refrigerators were appreciated, and common areas such as gardens, fireplaces, a coffee/snacks area, and pleasant seating spaces contribute to a welcoming environment. Amenities reported across reviews include an exercise room, library, hairdressing salon, and outdoor spaces. The convenient location resonated with families because of proximity to relatives and medical providers.

Dining and nutrition are highlighted consistently as positives. Meals are described as delicious and better than average for assisted living, with appealing presentation and an in-room dining option that families noted. This aspect complements the overall impression of clinically sound care — reviewers mention effective medication management, nurse oversight, and availability of hospice care when needed, indicating a continuum of care beyond basic assisted living services.

Activities and social engagement are present and valued: art activities, guest talks, bingo, cards, and library programs were called out as part of regular engagement. Many residents and families reported encouragement to walk and socialize, and seasonal events (for example, holiday visits) were mentioned with enthusiasm. That said, several reviewers expressed reservations that activities can be limited or inconsistent; this suggests day-to-day programming may vary and could be improved to ensure consistent, diverse offerings for all residents.

The main concerns fall into two categories: operational/maintenance issues and staffing limitations. Some families reported concrete maintenance lapses (examples include a bedframe not delivered resulting in a mattress on the floor, an oven that didn't work, and no microwave present where expected). These are practical problems that affect move-in experience and resident comfort. Staffing concerns were also raised — while many praise nurses and staff overall, a number of reviews mention CNAs or direct-care staffing as a potential weak point and describe periods of understaffing. These staffing issues may contribute to perceived inconsistencies in activities and maintenance follow-through.

Pricing and value perceptions are mixed. Some reviewers find pricing comparable to the area and even describe the facility as affordable; others say the cost is a stretch or at the upper reach for their budget. This suggests that, while many feel the quality of staff and services justify the cost, affordability depends on individual financial circumstances and expectations.

In summary, Twin Oaks Assisted Living of Lansing presents a strong profile for families prioritizing compassionate, attentive staff, clinical reliability (medication and nursing), and a clean, comfortable living environment with many amenities. The primary areas for improvement are consistency in maintenance and move-in readiness, clarity and reliability of appliances/equipment, and addressing staffing levels at the CNA/direct-care level to ensure consistent activity programming and daily operations. For prospective residents, the facility appears to deliver excellent interpersonal care and a homelike atmosphere; families should confirm specifics (appliance function, staffing patterns, activity schedules, and final pricing) during a tour and move-in planning to avoid the isolated but tangible issues noted in some reviews.

About Twin Oaks Assisted Living of Lansing

Twin Oaks Assisted Living of Lansing sits at 657 W Eisenhower Rd in Kansas, on a campus that brings together independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and rehab services in one place, and you'll find a mix of people from different backgrounds, like hospital and health care professionals, students from technical colleges, and certified senior care specialists working all around the clock to help out with all sorts of needs, like hygiene support, medication help, and memory care for people with cognitive difficulties. Residents live in one-bedroom and deluxe suites that are fully carpeted, have kitchenettes, emergency voice alert systems, full kitchens, and even storage options, all getting weekly housekeeping, maintenance, and the chance to have pets, plus there are well-prepared meals, so things feel much like home but safer for those who shouldn't live completely on their own anymore.

The staff matches care levels to each person's changing needs, offering tailored solutions and reassurance from licensed nurses and home care specialists always nearby, and they even have a separate service room with a licensed beautician and barber, so everyone can look after themselves and feel comfortable. Community spaces like the library, sun room, large living room, and dining room, along with patio areas inside the independent living section, give everyone plenty of places to gather, read, or join in on daily and weekly activities, which keeps folks engaged and gives the place a social feel, all while promoting independence and good health.

Twin Oaks takes pride in making the place welcoming, clean, and comfortable, with attention to good smells and privacy for everyone, and they try to keep a supportive, home-like atmosphere going for all seniors, especially those needing a little extra help but not full-time skilled nursing. Being on the Midwest Health network, Twin Oaks sits close to its sister services like Twin Oaks Independent Living, Twin Oaks Health & Rehab, and Rescare Homecare, so seniors can move between care levels when needed, and the setup supports both active living and recovery through rehab services, including special equipment and rapid recovery programs. Residents have access to community-specific programs, and there's always staff ready for emergencies or ongoing care, while the activities and social opportunities help make everyone feel part of a community.

The facility has a reputation that you might call mixed, with at least one review on Yelp giving a low mark, and another reviewer rating it at 4.0, and the focus stays firmly on providing what seniors need for comfort, privacy, and support, in a place that's clean, nicely maintained, and full of familiar faces.
