    Attentive staff but concerning neglect

I appreciate the kind, responsive staff, excellent communication, very clean facility, 24/7 coverage, and good food. That said I've witnessed care plans ignored, delayed/missed bathing, residents returned with unwashed hair and dirty clothes, and diabetics served sweets - leaving me worried about neglect despite the otherwise attentive team.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is mixed but leans toward positive in areas of staffing, cleanliness, communication, and facility management. Multiple reviewers praise the staff as caring and kind and specifically note 24/7 staff coverage and strong staffing levels. The facility is described as very clean, and dining receives positive remarks ("excellent food"). Families report that staff are responsive to telephone inquiries and that management and social services communicate well about residents' health and condition, including regular weekly COVID updates. At least one family explicitly stated they had no complaints after one year, indicating satisfaction with ongoing operations and communication practices.

Despite those strengths, there are significant and specific negative reports that raise concern about direct care consistency and safety. One or more reviews report that individualized care plans were disregarded, and cite concrete examples: delays in bathing, residents with unwashed hair and dirty clothes, and general resident distress. A particularly concerning dietary issue was reported where desserts were served to diabetic residents, suggesting lapses in dietary safeguards or care-plan adherence. These negative comments focus on frontline caregiving tasks (personal hygiene, adherence to individualized plans, dietary management) rather than administrative functions.

The pattern suggests a facility that performs well at the organizational and family-communication level but may have intermittent failures in day-to-day hands-on care. Positive themes (clean environment, excellent food, good social services/management, and open family communication) indicate that systems and leadership are in place and generally effective. However, the reported failures—especially around neglect, hygiene, and improper dietary practices—are safety-sensitive and suggest inconsistent adherence to care plans or variable staff performance on particular shifts.

Taken together, these reviews call for a targeted focus: maintain and reinforce the strong aspects already noted (communication, cleanliness, staffing coverage, and responsiveness) while addressing the operational gaps in personal care and dietary protocol adherence. The negative reports are specific enough to warrant immediate attention: auditing care-plan compliance, retraining or coaching staff on personal care routines and diabetes meal safeguards, and implementing monitoring/quality checks to prevent delayed bathing and unclean clothing. Given the facility’s apparent strengths in management and family communication, those channels could be used proactively to report remedial actions and rebuild confidence with families.

In summary, Good Samaritan Society - Wamego appears to deliver many elements of high-quality senior living—compassionate staff, round-the-clock coverage, cleanliness, good food, and strong family communication—yet there are troubling reports of care-plan noncompliance and neglect-related issues that are serious and actionable. The facility’s existing strengths provide a foundation for corrective measures, but the concerns raised should be investigated and remedied promptly to ensure consistent, safe, and dignified care for all residents.
