    Friendly, clean, but inconsistent nursing

I moved my parent here and overall I'm impressed: staff are friendly, caring, and easy to reach; the campus is clean, meals are good with clear menus and alternatives, and activities (cards, pool, trips, classes) keep residents engaged. Nursing attention can be personalized, but I've seen serious lapses - delayed baths, charting failures, oxygen and fall-monitor shortages, high staff/activities turnover, and admin indifference to some care issues. COVID safety and move-in were handled smoothly, and the place feels homey, but dementia and skilled-care needs aren't always met. It's pricey but can be good value for social, clean assisted living - I'd recommend cautiously and only with active family advocacy.

    About KMH

KMH is a retirement community in Wichita, Kansas, founded in 1896 and run by a nonprofit organization with Michael Miller as the Executive Director. Staff like Nzabahimana Frederic help with telemedicine, Erik Metall brings his sound engineering and music skills, and Karen Harris has a background in corporate sabbaticals, which adds different experiences to the community. The place has several locations on and around Martinson Street, so you'll find things like a Short Term Rehabilitation Household at 416 S. Martinson, Assisted Living Apartments at 402 S. Martinson, Assisted Living Suites at 400 S. Martinson, and Skilled Health Care at 1211 W. Maple. The community supports adults 55 and over, offering independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing care, rehabilitation, and continuing care.

They offer remodeled apartments with full-size kitchens, natural light, and spacious rooms-some units are two-bedroom, some are studios, and there are single rooms, all in a neighborhood-style design with private or semi-private areas, front porches, kitchens, dining rooms, dens, and living rooms where people can socialize. The "Household Model" at KMH combines memory care and assisted living, so people dealing with Alzheimer's or dementia get support while feeling at home. The focus is always on aging in place and letting people keep as much independence as possible.

KMH has no parking included, no utilities included in the rent, and a minimum 12-month lease with rent at $1,500 per month. The community doesn't allow pets in some areas, though they do have close pets and some places where pets are welcome. Amenities include a gym, swimming pool, hot tub, outdoor patios, indoor and outdoor social spaces, gardens, and rooms for religious services, along with on-site beauty and barber services. People living there can get transportation, housekeeping, linen laundry, in-house meal options, and chef-planned kosher or vegetarian food. There are also physical, occupational, and speech therapy services, plus scheduled visits from therapists and in-house skilled nursing and home care options. They provide respite care, hospice, and hospice services, and have nurses on staff and a doctor on call.

Residents take part in devotional services both on and offsite, and have lots of activities for learning, entertainment, and socializing, so folks get a good chance to engage with others. The staff is known for being friendly and helpful, and the place keeps high standards of cleanliness without unpleasant odors. The open visitation policy lets friends and family visit at any time, which helps keep people connected.

With its long history in Wichita, KMH focuses on providing safe, nutritious meals, supportive staff, and programs for seniors who need different levels of care, including those living at home with non-medical help. The community is licensed by the state and has ratings and financial transparency, plus it's involved in grantmaking and providing resources for residents. Seniors receive care that matches their needs, whether they want total independence or require more assisted or nursing care, and everything is organized to make sure residents feel comfortable, cared for, and as active as they want to be.
