    Beautiful facility but inconsistent care

I moved into the beautiful, brand-new facility and appreciate the welcoming atmosphere, active programs, and many caring staff who genuinely go the extra mile. Staff quality is inconsistent - turnover, part-time unfamiliar aides, and occasional rudeness create gaps in care, and nursing/administration communications and billing are often poor. Dining is a mixed bag (restaurant-quality some days, terrible other days), the place felt expensive with unexplained rent hikes and confusing Lifespark services. The building is lovely but has highway noise and some mobility/access issues. I like parts of the community, but I would caution families who need reliable nursing, clear communication, and solid value.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across reviews is mixed but leans positive about the physical facility, community life, and pockets of strong caregiving, while showing recurring concerns about staffing consistency, communication, billing, dining, and suitability for higher-acuity residents.

Facilities and amenities are a clear strength in many reviewers' eyes. Multiple comments highlight that Round Lake Senior Living is a brand-new, modern, and attractive building that is very clean. Outdoor features such as a loop trail with exercise stations, pleasant common spaces, and a well-appointed dining area are frequently praised. Move-in and onboarding experiences were smooth for several families, and reviewers consistently mention a welcoming front desk and friendly residents, which supports a homelike, inclusive atmosphere. However, reviewers also cite practical design and location drawbacks: several people describe mobility-unfriendly elements (elevator and bench placement, non-rectangular apartment layouts), units that experience highway noise, and an isolated location that may be inconvenient for some families.

Care quality and staffing receive mixed but detailed commentary. Many reviewers single out caregivers and some staff as thorough, caring, and willing to go the extra mile, and several say residents are well cared for and thriving under the current staffing. At the same time, there are repeated reports of high staff turnover and understaffing, which leads to inconsistent experiences. Part-time staff who are unfamiliar with residents' routines and needs create variability in daily care. Reviewers also report specific negative incidents — poor information sharing by nursing staff, an unhelpful director of nursing in some cases, and at least one report of a CNA arguing with a resident. An important operational detail that appears in multiple summaries is the lack of visible nursing stations or med carts; coupled with comments that the community may not be suitable for higher-acuity elderly patients, this suggests prospective residents who require frequent medical oversight should verify whether the community can meet their clinical needs.

Dining and hydration are polarizing topics. Many reviews praise the food — some calling it amazing, hot, and restaurant-quality with excellent coffee. Conversely, an equal number (or more) of reviews criticize meals as 'meh' or terrible. There is mention of a new chef coming on board and hopes that food quality will improve. Relatedly, multiple reviewers raise dehydration concerns and inadequate water service (small glasses and perceived insufficient attention to hydration), an issue families should clarify during visits.

Communication, administration, and outside services are recurrent trouble spots. Several reviewers report billing and administrative problems such as bills not being emailed, ignored refund requests, unexpected rent increases, and poor follow-up. These administrative issues have led at least some families to describe the community as stressful or give the impression of being a financial burden. Accessing vendor or partner services (LifeSpark/Lyfespark) is described as complicated; literature and instructions are hard to find, making it difficult for families to utilize those offerings. Reviewers are polarized on management: some praise visible, dedicated leadership and responsive directors, while others report rude or uncooperative staff members and failures in communication or in contacting families when issues arise.

Activities, community life, and value judgments show notable variability. Many reviewers emphasize a lively, engaged resident population with a wide range of activities and meaningful programming; staff involvement in events and encouragement to participate are frequently cited as positives. Yet some residents (and their families) report low participation by certain residents who need more encouragement, and a few say the community is only suitable if minimal assistance is required. Opinions on value for money diverge: some reviewers call the community affordable and good value (including meal packages and levels of service), while others report unexpected rent hikes and poor value relative to service and food quality.

In summary, Round Lake Senior Living presents as a modern, attractive, and socially active community with many strengths: strong common spaces, inclusive programming, and several instances of excellent caregiving and leadership. The most consistent concerns point to staffing instability and variability of staff performance, inconsistent dining experiences, administrative and billing communication failures, and possible limitations in medical oversight for higher-acuity residents. Prospective residents and families should tour the facility, meet caregiving staff, ask detailed questions about staffing ratios and continuity, verify clinical supports (nursing coverage, medication management, hydration protocols), request written policies on billing and rent changes, and sample meals if possible. Doing so will help determine whether the community's many positives align with the specific care, communication, and value expectations of the prospective resident.

    About Round Lake Senior Living

Round Lake Senior Living sits over at 1740 Parkshore Drive in Arden Hills, tucked into a quiet spot but still gives folks a sense of being part of the area, and families are welcome to be involved in helping choose the right care level for their relatives, since the place wants people to feel like decisions are made together, and they keep families in the loop on care plans and day-to-day things so no one feels left out. The building fits right in with the local landscape and offers a real range of living options, from independent apartments folks can fix up to feel like home all the way over to assisted living and full memory care, and they let residents shift from one care level to another as needs change, so there's no need to move every time life brings a new challenge, which is what people call "aging in place," and they even offer respite stays for short-term needs.

There's independent living apartments, some semi-private and some more like cozy studios, all built around easy access to social rooms, quiet community spots, and outdoor areas for sitting, visiting, or getting fresh air. Caregivers and nurses stay close by, ready to help with daily things like bathing and dressing, medication reminders, and meals, and there are folks trained for memory support too, partly through a program called Reflections that's supposed to help people keep their minds active and feel comfortable even if memory problems show up. There's always 24-hour support, call systems, and security features to make sure everyone stays safe, and the memory care wing is made so folks don't get confused or wander off by mistake.

Life here includes regular activities and events to keep things lively, from group exercise to arts, games, religious services, and outings, plus wellness programs and clubs so neighbors can get to know one another. The staff focuses on treating everyone with respect and patience, pitching in whenever needed without being overbearing, and the kitchens put out meals that are both healthy and taste good, making sure no one skips out on the basics. Amenities reflect what modern seniors expect, like internet, Wi-Fi in common spaces, and support for hearing aids or cell phones, plus pet-friendly rooms, and there's rides for errands, too. They provide medical alert systems and safety gadgets for those who want extra peace of mind. For memory care residents, there's a protected unit and special programs to help keep them engaged.

Round Lake Senior Living gives people a way to live on their own or get more help as time goes by, with rates starting at $5,289 a month, and the team works with families to craft care plans based on each person's actual needs, which might include nursing, companion care, or simply keeping up with daily routines. The apartments are easy to move around in, the grounds stay well-kept, and everything's set up to make life comfortable and secure, whether someone needs just a little help or round-the-clock support.
