    Gorgeous community but staffing concerns

I live/visit here and the place is gorgeous and exceptionally clean-spacious, modern, wheelchair-friendly apartments with great amenities (chef, bistro, theater, activities). The staff are mostly friendly, caring and attentive and the activities team is excellent; residents seem happy. That said, I've seen recurring staffing shortages/high turnover, spotty communication with families, some care lapses (memory care can feel depressing), and occasional missing items. I'd recommend touring-lovely community-but factor in the staffing and accountability concerns before deciding.

    About Willowbrook Hills

Willowbrook Hills, located in Auburn Hills, MI, is managed by Life Care Services® and offers a mix of independent living, assisted living, and memory care, plus skilled nursing and home care with a whole range of support services under one roof, so seniors can stay put as their needs change, which a lot of folks find comforting, and you've got this genuine community feel here-people look after each other, swap stories, and keep busy with new ideas, games, or just a friendly chat in shared lounges or out in the gardens. The place has a neighborhood vibe, feels tight-knit and private, but also brings in a lot of social things-there's a crafts and art studio for the creative types, a fitness center for folks that want to keep moving, regular music and games, cooking classes, and even a small movie theater for film nights, not to mention a library, a computer lounge, and big rooms for all kinds of gatherings or group activities. You'll see residents sharing meals in the restaurant-style dining room or grabbing a bite in the bistro, where chefs cook up meals that are planned by dietitians (so there are low-salt, vegetarian, and other special diet options, all made with good ingredients), and you can eat outside, sit at the picnic area, or use the private dining room for family if you want, with services like room delivery and flexible snacks for anyone on the go.

There's easy access for wheelchairs, covered parking, scheduled rides for outings or doctor appointments, and most of the housekeeping and maintenance is handled by staff with the know-how for everything from plant care to pest control, and the apartments-coming as studios, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom-have roomy layouts, kitchenettes, private bathrooms, and climate controls to make things comfortable, and those who like to bring a pet can do so for a monthly fee, though owners must take care of them. Safety features don't get much more thorough, as Willowbrook Hills has controlled access, emergency systems in the rooms, a 24/7 security system, regular wellness checks, and fall prevention programs, all handled by a staff that's trained in everything from memory care to diabetes and chronic disease, so people feel secure.

Families will see there are both assisted living and memory care neighborhoods, each with therapies like physical, occupational, respiratory, speech, and even pet therapy, and staff can help with all kinds of things-dressing, bathing, taking medicine, keeping doctor visits on schedule, and more-so everyone gets support fit to their own needs. They offer independent living for those who don't want to fuss with chores or repairs, and care homes as another option for folks needing more hands-on daily help, with laundry, meals, and reminders handled right there, plus some home care services if someone really wants to stay in their apartment. The community stays lively with regular cultural programs, reading groups, holidays and seasonal parties, art workshops, religious services, and even intergenerational events with kids, and, for those who need a break, there are short-term respite stays.

Awards like Best of Senior Living and the All-Star nod speak to how much people feel cared for here, but honestly, what a lot of folks mention is the plain comfort of living somewhere with friendly neighbors, good food, a helpful staff, and spending time doing the everyday things that matter to them, whether it's gardening, catching up for coffee at the on-site shop, taking a stroll through the walking paths, or seeing what's playing on movie night. Willowbrook Hills sits close to Rochester and Oakland University, and you'll see plenty of planned tours if you ever want to take a look at daily life, the different apartments, and all the wellness programs offered here.
