    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews for Big Rapids Fields Assisted Living & Memory Care is strongly positive, with recurring praise centering on staff quality, cleanliness, and the facility's new, well-kept environment. Many reviewers describe the admissions process as seamless and the initial transition as easy, noting a warm, family-like welcome. The facility is repeatedly described as clean, modern, and comfortable — a brand-new building with temperature-controlled suites, patios, furnished bedrooms, and a home-like atmosphere that residents and families appreciate.

Care quality and staffing are the most prominent positives. Reviews consistently emphasize compassionate, attentive, and hardworking caregivers who prioritize resident safety, dignity, and happiness. Families and reviewers highlight strong teamwork, 24/7 availability, personalized memory-care expertise, and accountable management. Several comments single out leadership by name (Kenda) and praise the facility for thorough, respectful care. Additional clinical and emotional supports are also highlighted: hospice assistance is available and a Grief Doula is on staff, demonstrating attention to both medical and psychosocial needs.

Amenities and included services are another strong theme. The facility often operates with an all-inclusive pricing model and provides comprehensive housekeeping, laundry, linen service, towels, and basic toiletries. Rooms come furnished, typically with TVs and cable and the option for a landline; suites have call buttons for assistance. On-site meals prepared with fresh ingredients receive positive mention from some reviewers, and the physical environment — not overly large, easy to navigate, neat, and well maintained — supports a comfortable daily life for residents.

Social life and activities are frequently praised. Multiple reviewers cite an engaging calendar: bingo, cookouts, puzzles, social gatherings, and specialty offerings such as a birds-of-prey program that stands out as unique. Reviewers describe a positive social atmosphere with residents forming friendships, spirited interactions, and a lively, fun culture. Family involvement is encouraged and communication with staff is reported to be easy, which contributes to a sense of trust and partnership between staff and families.

Despite the overwhelmingly positive feedback, there are some notable concerns and contradictory reports that prospective families should weigh. Several reviewers call out food and menu issues — specifically that meals can be insufficiently warm or in need of improvement — and at least one review describes rooms as plain. More serious are a small number of negative comments alleging poor quality of care and claims that administration acted dishonestly, including accusations about misrepresenting services or filling beds unethically. There is also an explicit note that the facility does not accept Medicaid, which is an important access and cost consideration for some families. Additionally, while many reviews tout plentiful activities, a few claim there were no activities; this conflict could reflect variability over time or between units.

A pattern emerges of an organization that has improved and stabilized: some reviewers reference a previous turnover and management issues but applaud a recent turnaround in staffing and leadership effort to provide consistently good care. Given the mix of overwhelmingly positive reviews alongside a few serious negative outliers, a prudent next step for families considering Big Rapids Fields would be an in-person tour, direct conversations with leadership about current staffing, activity schedules, dining practices (including meal temperature and menu planning), and explicit questions about payment/insurance policies such as Medicaid acceptance. Overall, the dominant themes are strong — attentive, compassionate staff; a clean, new facility; robust included services; and an engaging social environment — with a handful of concerns worth verifying directly during a visit.
