    Clean facility but abusive, unsafe

I liked how extremely clean it was and the owner seemed pleasant and responsive, and the community felt nice. But I personally witnessed serious problems: staff using bleach-water baths, theft of food stamps, hitting and cursing at residents, and aggressive billing while claiming they could handle all medical needs. The place felt unprofessional and not equipped for medical care - I had safety concerns and would not recommend it. This reflects my personal experience.

    Summary review

The reviews for Hickory Bark Lane Homes present a sharply divided picture, with a small set of reviewers praising the facility while a larger body of complaints raises serious safety, care, and conduct concerns. On the positive side, several reviewers emphasize that the facility is "extremely clean," describe the owner as pleasant and responsive, and characterize the community as warm and supportive. A few reviews report positive outcomes and express appreciation, even giving five-star ratings. The facility is also described in some comments as claiming to be able to handle all medical needs, which may attract families seeking comprehensive care.

However, a substantial portion of the review summaries contain severe and specific allegations that strongly contradict the positive comments. Multiple reviews allege patterns of unprofessional and abusive behavior: verbal abuse (cursing at residents), physical abuse (hitting residents), and even theft (taking food stamps). There are also complaints describing improper hygiene practices — specifically references to "bleach-water baths," which raises acute safety and dignity concerns. These allegations create a picture of residents being treated poorly and of systemic problems in staff conduct and oversight.

Care quality and medical capability emerge as a major theme with conflicting signals. While the facility reportedly advertises the ability to "handle all medical needs," other reviewers explicitly state that Hickory Bark Lane Homes is not properly equipped to provide medical care. This inconsistency suggests either a mismatch between the facility's marketing and its actual services or a variable level of care depending on circumstances. Given the seriousness of the abuse and neglect allegations, the reported lack of adequate medical capability is particularly troubling for families with high-care needs.

Management, billing, and culture are recurring concerns. Reviews describe the operation as "money-driven" and note aggressive behavior around payments, implying undue pressure on families or residents regarding fees. Simultaneously, several reports call out unprofessional staff behavior and poor treatment of residents, which together paint a picture of an environment where financial priorities may be overriding resident welfare. At least one comment indicates that a state closure was requested, which signals regulatory attention or at least community calls for oversight; the reviews do not provide the outcome of that request but the mention itself is notable.

Facilities and daily living details are mixed but specific: the facility is frequently described as very clean, which is a clear positive and may reflect diligence in environmental maintenance. Conversely, the allegation of "bleach-water baths" directly conflicts with a dignified approach to personal care and suggests either negligent practice or misunderstanding of procedures. Dining and household theft is also alleged (specifically theft of food stamps), pointing to potential weaknesses in staff trustworthiness and resident resource security.

Overall, the sentiment is polarized but skews toward caution. While there are concrete positives—cleanliness, appreciative families, a responsive owner in some accounts, and a sense of community—there are multiple, serious allegations about abuse, theft, unsafe practices, and aggressive billing. The most significant pattern is the co-occurrence of positive surface-level features (clean environment, pleasant owner in some reports) with deep, troubling accusations about resident safety and staff conduct. For anyone considering Hickory Bark Lane Homes, these reviews indicate the need for thorough, independent verification: check licensing and inspection records, ask for references, request details about medical capability and staff training, inquire about incident reports and how complaints are handled, and, if possible, visit unannounced to observe daily care and interactions. The conflicting nature of the reviews means due diligence is essential before making placement or hiring decisions.
