    Understaffed, dirty facility; caring staff

I saw both caring, hardworking CNAs/nurses and a nice facility atmosphere - great food, a beautiful dining room, comfortable lounge, activities and decent pain management. But I also experienced chronic understaffing (long 20+ minute waits, hurried staff, missed callbacks), poor communication, and limited PT (short daily sessions, no weekends). Cleanliness was unacceptable at times - soiled bedding/underwear, urine/bowel on beds/toilets, dusty rooms and even bedsores; several residents I know were hospitalized with sepsis. Management felt defensive and revenue-driven while staff were overworked and under-supported. I appreciate the frontline staff, but I would not recommend this facility given the neglect and poor management.

    Summary review

The reviews for Wexford Senior Care Center are deeply mixed, with a clear split between strongly positive experiences and serious, often alarming negative reports. Positives most commonly mention good food, a pleasant dining area, available activities, and instances of caring, attentive staff and aides. Several reviewers praised specific staff members (including a named employee, Nicole) and noted effective pain management and compassionate medical staff such as a kind physician and nurse practitioner. Some families and residents described the building and common areas as clean, smelling good, and comfortable, and a number of reviewers said they would recommend the facility.

However, a substantial portion of reviews describe severe problems with basic care and safety. Multiple accounts allege gross hygiene failures — dirty rooms, holes in walls, bedding soaked with urine or smeared with feces, soiled undergarments, and bedsores. Several reviewers reported acute medical consequences: repeated mentions of residents hospitalized with sepsis (including reports that a fifth resident had sepsis) and at least one person with pressure injuries. These reports signal potential systemic failures in infection control, incontinence care, and wound prevention/management.

Staffing and responsiveness are major recurring themes. Many reviewers describe long waits for help (20+ minutes), hurried or distracted staff, missed callbacks, and ignored discharge or doctor communication. At the same time, staff are frequently described as hard-working and caring under difficult conditions; this suggests that understaffing and workload, rather than solely individual negligence, contribute to lapses in timeliness and quality. Several reviews explicitly cite understaffing, denied breaks, and employees treated like "indentured servants," which reviewers link to poor resident care and staff morale.

There is a sharp divide in perceptions of cleanliness and management. Some reviewers repeatedly describe the facility as very clean and staff as helpful, whereas others report shocking cleanliness failures and even feces on pillowcases. Management and administration receive substantial criticism in negative reviews — described as a "joke," unethical, covering up incidents (including alleged assaults), and failing to support staff or respond appropriately to family concerns. Specific operational complaints include ignored discharge orders, lack of physician contact, denial of cell phone access, alleged revenue-driven behavior, and weekend therapy being unavailable or therapy being minimal.

Therapy and rehabilitation services appear adequate for some long-term residents (e.g., daily 30-minute PT) but limited in scope or schedule for others (no weekend therapy, concerns about insurance-driven limitations). Dining and activities are overall positive points: food quality and the dining environment are frequently praised and activity options such as books and games are noted.

Patterns in these reviews suggest inconsistent care quality across units, shifts, or time periods: while some residents and families report compassionate, competent care and a clean environment, a distinct and troubling subset of reports describe neglect, infection, and management failures serious enough to warrant hospitalization. The frequency and severity of the negative reports — particularly around infection (sepsis), hygiene, and alleged management cover-ups — are red flags that merit investigation by regulators or the organization’s leadership. Families considering this facility should seek up-to-date, unit-specific information (inspection reports, staffing ratios, recent infection-control records), speak directly with nursing leadership about current staffing and clinical protocols, and, if possible, tour the specific unit and observe care during different shifts.

In summary, Wexford Senior Care Center appears to provide excellent elements for some residents (good food, compassionate staff, pleasant common areas, and available activities), but there are repeated and serious reports of neglect, unsanitary conditions, and management failures that compromise resident safety. The reviews indicate a facility with pockets of high-quality care undermined by systemic staffing, communication, and administrative issues — issues that have in multiple instances led to severe clinical consequences for residents.
