    Lovely community with service caveats

I live here and overall I love the beautiful, well-kept grounds, spacious clean apartments (full kitchens, in-unit washer/dryer) and the strong, welcoming sense of community. Staff are mostly friendly, attentive and helpful, tours were thorough, and there are tons of daily activities and on-site amenities. Safety features and customizable care give me independence with support as needed. Food used to be excellent but has become inconsistent since staff changes-meal plans are limited and some meals require tickets. My main concerns: no backup generator/power outage risk, reports of a poorly handled bed-bug incident with little family contact, some staff/management turnover and occasional parking/pricing frustrations. Overall a lovely, active place I'd recommend with caveats about food consistency, emergency preparedness and staffing.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: Reviews for Lockwood of Clinton are predominantly positive about the community’s staff, cleanliness, apartment quality, activities and value, while showing recurring concerns about dining consistency, a few operational issues, and several serious isolated incidents (notably bed bug claims). Most reviewers highlight friendly, patient and responsive staff, a welcoming touring experience, and a community-oriented, family-like atmosphere. The facility consistently receives praise for being well-maintained, nicely decorated, and clean, with many reviewers noting modern, spacious apartments that include full kitchens, in-unit laundry, central air, garbage disposals and ample cabinet/pantry space. Residents and families often describe a painless move-in, helpful staff during transitions, and an overall atmosphere where people ‘‘look out for each other.’n Care quality and staff: A recurring strength in the reviews is staffing and care. Staff are repeatedly called kind, personable, attentive and quick to respond. Multiple reviewers cite specific staff members (Maria, Nancy, Deanna, Corso, Carrie, Heather) as being informative or exceptional during tours and follow-up. The community appears to offer adjustable care packages and on-call assistance, allowing residents to maintain independence while receiving support as needed. Management involvement is appreciated by many; however, a subset of reviewers express concern about leadership changes and missing the prior general manager’s approach, indicating that continuity of strong leadership matters to residents and families.

Facilities and apartments: The physical plant gets high marks. Reviewers praise a clean, modern aesthetic, good upkeep of common areas and grounds (benches, attractive landscaping), elevators and accessible facilities. The building size is described as mid-sized/three-story by several reviewers; some like the smaller scale while others mention limited communal space. Apartment positives include airy floorplans, full kitchens, central air, in-unit washers/dryers, and ample storage. A few specifics: second bedrooms in some layouts are reported as small, some units lack balconies, and pet restrictions (not suitable for cat owners) are mentioned.

Dining and food service: Dining is a mixed theme and one of the most frequently noted pain points. Many reviewers praise special meals (catered dinners, holiday events) and included items such as breakfast or in-room continental breakfast. Yet a substantial number of reviews call out inconsistent food quality — comments such as “hit or miss,” “food needs improvement,” and notes that the chef quit and waitstaff were cooking indicate service disruptions. Meal plan structure is also mentioned as limiting: often only one meal is included and extra meals require tickets or fees, which some find restrictive. While some residents say the food is good or restaurant-quality, the persistent contrast suggests dining quality varies over time and by staffing.

Activities and community life: The community is consistently described as active with a robust schedule — monthly calendars, exercise classes, word games, puzzles, cards, library time, movie/theater room, crafts, pool table, and well-attended coffee/social hours. Multiple reviewers appreciate that staff encourage residents to lead and start activities. Transportation services (bus to grocery stores, medical appointments, outings) are regularly available and valued, though a few reviewers wished for more off-site activities. Holiday parties and social events receive strong praise, reinforcing the sense of an engaged, communal environment.

Safety and health concerns: Safety features are a positive, with pull cords, GPS pendant/bracelet alerts, on-call assistance and generally attentive staff giving families confidence. However, the most serious negative trend is repeated reports of bed bug infestations and allegations of poor handling and communication by staff in those cases. Several reviews explicitly mention this, including claims of ongoing problems and lack of contact with families; these reports are serious red flags that potential residents or families should investigate directly and confirm what remediation and prevention policies the community currently has in place.

Operational and administrative issues: A few operational concerns appear across reviews: parking can be problematic when staff occupy resident spots and some reviewers mention limited parking. At least one review describes an application fee or account overdraft problem and slow or concerning customer-service responsiveness around billing — a situation “being looked into” per the review. Others mention long waitlists and price increases, which may affect move-in timing and perceived affordability. One reviewer noted lack of a generator, raising concerns about power outage contingency planning. Climate control complaints (facility being too cold in winter) and noise from air conditioning units were also reported by multiple individuals.

Patterns and recommendations: The dominant positive themes are caring and responsive staff, clean and attractive facilities, strong activities programming and good value for the cost. The most important negative themes worth investigating in person are dining consistency/staffing stability, evidence of pest issues and how management handled them, and administrative matters like fees/waitlist/parking. Prospective residents should tour at different times (meal service, activities) and ask for written policies on pest management, incident reporting, staffing turnover (especially kitchen), generator/emergency preparedness, parking rules, and any recent or planned changes in leadership. Ask for references from current residents and families, and verify how dining plans are structured and what is included versus extra cost. Finally, verify apartment specifics (balcony availability, bedroom sizes, pet policy) to ensure the floorplan matches needs.

Bottom line: Lockwood of Clinton is generally regarded as a clean, community-oriented, and well-staffed senior living option with spacious, well-equipped apartments, a strong activity program and good perceived value. However, prospective residents and families should perform due diligence around dining reliability, recent or historical pest issues, administrative practices (fees, waitlist and parking) and emergency preparedness before deciding.
