    Beautiful facility but staffing problems

I placed my mom here because the building is beautiful, very clean, and the caregivers are loving, patient and attentive - the homemade meals and peaceful, senior-friendly setting were a big plus. Lately new ownership/management has left them short-staffed and promises undone: missed cleanings, rarely changed bedding/laundry, fewer activities and inconsistent meals. I'm grateful for the amazing direct-care staff but I'd recommend with caution until management and staffing stabilize.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment for Coleman Fields Assisted Living & Memory Care is mixed but leans positive among many reviewers with notable pockets of serious concern. A substantial portion of reviews praise the caregiving team as loving, attentive, professional, and compassionate, frequently highlighting that staff go out of their way to make residents and families comfortable. Multiple reviewers compliment the facility’s cleanliness, maintenance, spacious studio apartments, large windows, natural light, and tranquil setting — characteristics that contribute to a pleasant living environment and peace of mind for families.

Dining receives generally strong praise in a number of reviews: homemade meals prepared from scratch, nutritious and tasty food, and a kitchen staff noted for accommodating resident preferences. Several reviewers explicitly call out the chef and kitchen team as outstanding. At the same time, a minority of reviews report the opposite experience with meals — describing small portions, poor variety, or awful meals — indicating inconsistency in dining quality or changes over time.

Activities and programming present a clear split in reported experiences. Some reviewers describe a good variety of activities, live entertainment, and ample programming that contributes to resident engagement. Conversely, several reviews state there are few or no activities, residents left alone with little to no interaction, and even claims of 24/7 isolation. This divergence suggests variability in activity delivery — possibly dependent on staffing levels, scheduling, or recent operational changes.

Housekeeping and basic services also show a pattern of inconsistent reporting. Many reviewers praise a clean, updated facility and helpful staff, while others allege failures in room cleaning, laundry not being done, and bedding rarely changed. These are significant operational concerns for residents’ comfort and health; their recurrence in multiple summaries indicates an area requiring verification when considering placement.

Staffing and management are the most polarized themes. Numerous reviews applaud staff attentiveness, strong caregiving, and a family-like atmosphere. However, there are also repeated, strong complaints about understaffing (including reports of single caregivers responsible for 13–15 residents), poor training, and management issues. Several reviews allege dishonesty from managers, promises not being fulfilled, and negative talk about staff. A few reviews explicitly link declining service quality to new owners or recent management changes. Taken together, these comments suggest that while many frontline caregivers are highly regarded, systemic leadership or resourcing problems may intermittently undermine care delivery.

In summary, Coleman Fields shows many strengths that attract positive experiences: compassionate direct-care staff, a clean and attractive facility, comfortable apartments, and often very good homestyle dining. However, multiple, repeated complaints about inconsistent management, understaffing, lapses in basic housekeeping and laundry, and variable activity offerings raise significant concerns. The mixed nature of reviews suggests either recent operational changes or uneven execution across shifts or time periods. Prospective families should directly verify current staffing ratios, housekeeping and laundry schedules, activity calendars, and management stability; visit during multiple times of day; speak with current residents and families; and ask for documentation of staffing and service commitments to reconcile these conflicting reports.
