    Loving staff, clean home, costly

I feel very confident here - the staff are loving, attentive and treat residents like family; the place is clean, homey and full of activities, and my loved one receives excellent, compassionate care. Meals are often good (holiday dinners and pasta stood out), but food quality can vary due to budget cuts, and the community is pricey with staff sometimes stretched thin - more licensed nurses would help. Overall I'm extremely satisfied and wouldn't want my family anywhere else, though administrative communication and cost could improve.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive, with overwhelming praise directed at the caregiving staff and the day-to-day resident experience. Reviewers repeatedly describe staff as compassionate, loving, attentive, and like family—attributes that produce frequent comments about residents being happy, comforted, and well cared for. The facility is regularly characterized as homey and welcoming; many reviewers emphasize that staff anticipate resident needs, follow plans of care (including PT), and provide emotional as well as physical support. Praise extends to how staff handle difficult situations, with accounts of administrators calming families and teams stepping in ‘all hands on deck’ when needed.

Facility and environment receive consistent compliments: the campus, building, community areas, and individual apartments are described as clean, light, sunny, and comfortable. Outdoor seating and grounds are noted as accessible and pleasant. Maintenance and housekeeping are singled out as reliable, contributing to a sense of safety and a well-kept living environment. Many reviewers explicitly say they would recommend Forest Glen, feel peace of mind leaving loved ones there, and would not want to live elsewhere—strong indicators of trust in daily operations and resident well-being.

Dining and activities are important themes. Numerous reviewers praise the food, mentioning first-class meals, favorite dishes (pasta, soup), aromas from the kitchen, and holiday events like Thanksgiving and Halloween. Activities such as movies and group events are appreciated and contribute to resident engagement. That said, dining feedback is not uniform: a minority of reviewers report poor meals or attribute declining quality to budget constraints, so dining should be seen as a generally positive area with occasional inconsistency.

Management and administration are viewed variably. Many reviews laud administrators as helpful, knowledgeable, and responsive—notes that management accommodated families and loved ones and was calming in stressful moments. However, a recurring concern is the perception that administrative support declines after move-in or payment, with some reviewers feeling the initial helpfulness “dropped off.” Communication with outside doctors is specifically cited as difficult in at least one review. These comments suggest that while frontline caregiving is strong, some back-office and care-coordination processes could be improved.

Cost and staffing are the clearest notable concerns. Multiple reviews call Forest Glen “very expensive,” mention drained savings, and say value for money could be better. In parallel, reviewers mention staff being overworked and the need for more licensed staff—an indicator that rising personnel demands may be outpacing staffing levels. These two issues are related: families expect a high level of care for a premium price, and any perception of understaffing or inconsistent administration can amplify dissatisfaction about cost.

In summary, reviews portray Forest Glen Assisted Living as a clean, comfortable, and well-loved community where caregiving staff are the core strength—attentive, kind, and resident-focused. Facilities, maintenance, activities, and many aspects of dining are frequently praised. The most significant and recurring negatives are high cost, perceptions of administrative inconsistency after admission, occasional understaffing/overwork and a need for more licensed personnel, and some inconsistency in dining quality. Prospective residents and families should weigh the strong caregiving culture and clean, home-like environment against the financial cost and ask specific questions about staffing levels, administrative support after move-in, and care-coordination with outside medical providers during tours and admissions discussions.

Senior Living Forest Glen, LLC operates the site, and StoryPoint Group manages the community as part of the Leisure Living Managed Community network, with routine state compliance checks and a clear focus on serving older adults and those with physical difficulties, offering assisted living, memory care, hospice support, respite care, and companion care all in one spot, so folks getting on in years or dealing with memory loss always have help close at hand.

The building feels safe and comfortable, with a 24-hour security system and home security features, plus walk-in tubs, ID theft protection for residents, and several medical alert systems like Bay Alarm Medical, Medical Guardian, and ADT Medical Alert, so seniors and their families can rest a little easier. Residents can choose between studio, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom units, with plenty of daylight and open-concept layouts that give everything a home-like, friendly feeling, and the staff, all well-trained and compassionate, help with personal care like bathing, dressing, and medication. Housekeeping, laundry services, and room cleaning happen regularly, keeping spaces tidy without putting extra burdens on the residents.

Meals are freshly prepared by chefs and meal planners, and the kitchen pays close attention to residents' tastes, making use of locally-sourced foods whenever possible and trying to work in meal feedback from those living there, and the dining areas welcome people to gather for meals like they're at a favorite family spot. Pets are welcome, and there's room outside or in common areas for animals to move about. The fitness center, on-site library, beauty salon, barbershop, computer stations, and business center give people activities to do and ways to stay busy, while organized events, outings, and life enrichment programs mean there's something planned most days for socializing or learning or just having a good time with others. Transportation services are also available for errands or appointments around Dowagiac, and staff are always ready to coordinate with outside healthcare professionals who come in.

This community focuses on long-term care services, not short-term hospital or Medicare-covered needs, and isn't certified for Medicare or Medicaid, so payment comes from residents or families, but in return, people get steady help with the life tasks that get tough in older age and staff to respond to needs any time of day. Forest Glen Assisted Living scores high marks from reviews, averaging 9.5 out of 10, which makes it stand out in Dowagiac for safety, comfort, activity choices, and overall resident satisfaction. The overall feeling is one of a small, close-knit senior community with open spaces, family-like relationships, a lot of support, and plenty of ways for seniors to enjoy each day, always knowing help is nearby when needed.
