    Compassionate, clean, intimate dementia care

I am so grateful we found this small, family-owned board-and-care - the owners are on-site and the staff is compassionate, experienced, and attentive. My loved one gets individualized, dementia-capable care in a gorgeous, immaculately clean, home-like house with private rooms, a sunroom, home-cooked meals, and prompt medical services (weekly doctor/nurse, PT/OT, VNA); communication is open and I have real peace of mind. It's intimate, social, and worth the higher cost, though openings are limited - I highly recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: Reviews for Greencastle Family Care are overwhelmingly positive. Across multiple summaries reviewers repeatedly praise the facility for delivering highly personalized, compassionate care in a small, home-like setting. The consistent themes are individualized attention, cleanliness, trustworthy staff and ownership, high-quality clinical oversight, and excellent homemade dining. Many reviewers express deep gratitude and relief, noting that the care provided surpasses that of larger assisted living facilities and that their loved ones are treated like family.

Care quality and staffing: Reviewers emphasize one-on-one attention and individualized care plans. The small resident population (commonly reported as about six residents) allows staff to focus on each person’s needs. Multiple summaries mention two caregivers or two helpers on duty, low caregiver turnover, and owners who are on-site and involved in daily operations. Staff are repeatedly described as caring, compassionate, attentive, knowledgeable, and professional. Several reviewers specifically noted dementia-focused care and longer-than-expected survival or stabilization under this team’s supervision. Clinical support is robust for a small board-and-care setting: visiting physician, weekly doctor or nurse visits, and services such as PT, OT, and visiting nurse associations are available or coordinated.

Facilities and environment: The physical environment receives uniformly high marks. Reviewers describe a gorgeous, spotless home with no odors, private rooms with en-suite bathrooms, a spacious sunroom, large kitchen, and outdoor patio. The facility is described as immaculately clean and beautifully maintained. Many reviews highlight the calming, healing atmosphere and the family-like environment created by the owners and caregivers. Safety is emphasized — reviewers feel comfortable that residents are well supervised and treated with dignity and respect.

Dining and activities: Dining is repeatedly characterized as a major strength. Homemade, nutritious, and delicious meals are served three times a day, with snacks and refreshments available. Several reviewers call out the food as better than larger facilities. Activities are tailored and meaningful, with mentions of exercise programs, music therapy, and other stimulating, individualized activities. The small community and open-door policy also make family visits easy and frequent, contributing to resident socialization and happiness.

Management, communication, and value: Management and ownership are frequently named and praised as honest, trustworthy, hands-on, and welcoming. Reviewers appreciate open communication, flexible visiting, and the operators’ willingness to involve families in care decisions. On value, most reviewers consider the facility worth the expense because of the high level of personalized care, though two notes of caution appear in the summaries: the facility has limited openings due to its small size, and several reviewers describe the cost as higher than some alternatives (one cited approximately $4,000 per month). Even with this, many say it is fair pricing or great value relative to the quality of care.

Patterns and considerations: The dominant pattern is near-uniform praise: reviewers consistently recommend Greencastle Family Care and express strong emotional appreciation for the staff and owners (some mentioning names). The main practical limitations are structural: small capacity that limits availability and a higher price point that may be prohibitive for some families. No consistent complaints about cleanliness, care quality, food, or staff responsiveness appear in the summaries provided. For families prioritizing individualized attention, dementia expertise, a clean and home-like environment, and close family involvement — and who can accommodate the cost and potential wait for an opening — reviewers portray Greencastle as an outstanding option that delivers compassionate, professional, and reliable care.

    About Greencastle Family Care

Greencastle Family Care sits in a quiet subdivision of Farmington Hills, Michigan, near big roads and close to restaurants, parks, and places for entertainment, and you can really tell they put a lot of thought into making things easy for people who live there, like having business hours from 8 in the morning until 9 at night on weekdays and 8 to 5:30 on weekends, which gives a lot of time for families to visit or call in with questions. They've got all kinds of care there-residential care homes, assisted living, memory care in a special building, senior apartments, even in-home care if someone's more comfortable in their own place, and they also handle nursing home and independent living for folks who don't need a lot of help yet but want some support now and then, and this means people can stay in the same community even if they start needing more care as years pass.

There are only six beds, so it's pretty small and homey, and they'd let people bring their own furniture and decorations to help make the space feel familiar, and every private room has its own bathroom, which matters to folks who want privacy or need things to be wheelchair accessible, as they've got roll-in showers and tubs that make things easier. All meals are home-cooked daily, laundry and linens get cleaned for residents, and people can watch cable TV or use Wi-Fi anywhere in the building. Outdoor and indoor common spaces give a place for everyone to sit, talk, or enjoy the weather, and staff organize daily activities meant to keep people busy, entertained, and social, since they believe in giving people lots to do together so they don't just sit alone all day, and they'll help residents get to appointments or places with transport services, too.

People who need help with medication, bathing, or grooming will find staff around day and night with training in all sorts of care, from light help with daily activities to more complex medical needs, and they've got a visiting doctor plus other health folks like nurses, therapists, and even podiatrists who check in, so if someone has diabetes, memory problems, or a chronic illness like Alzheimer's or needs hospice care, they'll find a staff who knows what they're doing. The memory care unit is a separate, locked building with bracelets on residents in case someone tries to leave or gets mixed up, which is important for keeping people safe, especially if they wander or get confused, and they've planned for folks needing stand-by help or lifts to move from bed to chair or chair to bath, and they even take people with major behavior challenges and provide care for elopement risks, which isn't something every place is set up for.

Their pricing is all published, and families can see average room costs, with a one-bedroom memory care unit running around $6,000 a month, and the way they do fees is that the community only pays if a family chooses to move in, and they help families by giving free advice with local advisors who help people figure out the right fit, answer questions, get pricing or availability, and walk through the steps, plus their website has information and resources in both English and Bahasa Indonesia for those who need it.

Greencastle Family Care has a peaceful, clean atmosphere where staff are friendly, chosen for being patient and kind, and they've got awards and top ratings from families and residents, with a perfect 5.0 rating from 19 reviews, which speaks to people feeling safe, cared for, and part of a small, close community, and even though it's modest in size with only 6 beds, it's got everything laid out so seniors can age in place without having to move again if their needs change, and families seem to really value that.
