    Friendly staff but building unacceptable

The staff are genuinely friendly, enthusiastic, and there's a great staff-to-resident ratio, but I can't recommend this place. The older building is run-down and poorly maintained - narrow, crowded halls, disgusting in-room bathrooms, and even roach/bed-bug problems - while administration seemed unprofessional and slow to act. The outdoor area is nice and there are some amenities, but I wouldn't send my dog or a loved one here.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is mixed but leans toward concern. Multiple reviewers praise the people who work at Fountainview Retirement Village of Fremont: staff are described as friendly, enthusiastic, and working well as a team. Reviewers repeatedly note an excellent staff-to-resident ratio and characterize the team as small and tight-knit, which suggests residents often experience attentive, personalized care from caregivers. A subset of reviewers describes the community as home-like or "top notch" and notes a variety of amenities, indicating that some residents find the environment comfortable and well-equipped for daily living.

However, serious and recurring facility and operational issues undermine those positive aspects. The building is repeatedly described as older, outdated, run down, and in poor interior condition. Narrow, crowded hallways were mentioned more than once, which could present mobility and accessibility challenges. Most alarmingly, multiple reviews report pest problems including roaches and bed bugs and describe bathrooms in residents' rooms as disgusting or filthy. These comments point to significant hygiene and maintenance failures that could affect resident health and well-being.

Management and administration also draw consistent criticism. Reviewers characterize leadership as uneducated, procrastinating, and overall poorly run. That perception appears linked to the cleanliness and pest-control issues, and possibly to the inconsistent presentation of amenities: some reviewers praise the number of amenities and a home-like atmosphere, while others say amenities are only average for the facility's size. The presence of both positive and negative statements about staffing (friendly, small/tight-knit staff vs. small staff/possible understaffing) suggests variability in day-to-day operations — staff appear capable and dedicated, but limited staffing levels or organizational problems may reduce reliability and follow-through.

Other practical concerns raised by reviewers include poor road access to the location and at least one reviewer explicitly saying they would not send their dog there, implying either a restrictive or unsafe pet policy or an environment unsuitable for pets. Combined with reports of infestations and cleanliness problems, these comments further indicate operational deficiencies that need addressing.

In summary, Fountainview Retirement Village of Fremont appears to have clear strengths in its caregiving personnel: friendly, enthusiastic staff with a favorable staff-to-resident ratio who can create a home-like atmosphere for some residents. At the same time, multiple reviewers identify serious, recurring problems with building condition, cleanliness, and pest control, plus concerns about administrative competence and overall management. Prospective residents and families should weigh the strong interpersonal care against documented facility hygiene and management issues, and should seek up-to-date information from the community about remediation steps (pest control, cleaning and maintenance, staffing levels, and administrative changes) before making a placement decision.

About Fountainview Retirement Village of Fremont

Fountainview Retirement Village of Fremont sits in a quiet spot right off E Main St., next to Fremont Christian School, in Fremont, MI, and you'll notice the peaceful grassy lawns, the well-kept flower beds, a big outdoor patio, and even an aviary where folks can sit and watch the birds come and go, and inside, they've got several indoor common areas where residents gather for activities or a chat, which keeps the place feeling lively like a small town within a small town. The community offers a few different options for living and care, from independent folks who want some support with daily needs, all the way to specialized care for people facing memory loss like Alzheimer's or dementia, and they manage things like incontinence, diabetes, and other health concerns, including help for residents who can't move around much on their own, and anyone staying there, whether it's for the long haul or just a short respite visit, can count on round-the-clock compassionate care from staff who know about the ups and downs of aging.

Meals are made by chefs and meal planners so people get nutritious food three times a day, plus snacks, and there are options for special diets to keep everyone healthy; services include medication help, laundry, cleaning, and assistance with things like bathing, grooming, dressing, and moving around, so nobody's left struggling with the basics. There's a big focus on keeping spirits up with enrichment activities, outings, physical exercises, and religious or spiritual care, with both staff and a dedicated Community Navigator helping families figure out what kind of help is needed and how things work for new residents moving in. The group running Fountainview does so as a nonprofit under Baruch Senior Ministries, and uses a faith-based care model that aims to keep the place feeling like a community that's about love, comfort, and treating everyone with respect, making it feel more like home than a big institution.

They've got a habit of giving their care programs special names, and work toward personalized care plans that look at what each resident needs, especially when it comes to memory support or staying as independent as possible. Residents can join in social and recreational events, and the staff keeps things running smoothly with coordination between different outside agencies like home health or hospice, so care can keep going even if medical needs change. Emergency call systems, laundry and linen services, and daily housekeeping mean families don't have to worry about chores, and there's a steady effort to keep everyone engaged and connected, whether someone's staying temporarily for respite care or planning to settle in for the long term. Everything in the building and in daily routines-from support with medications to tailored activities-shows the attention they give to serving older adults and their families in a practical, caring way.
