    Impeccable grounds, friendly staff, pricey

I live here and overall I'm very happy - the grounds, bright airy apartments and common areas are impeccably maintained, and the staff (Kathy and Nikki included) are friendly, helpful and attentive. The place has tons of amenities (salon, theater, ice-cream parlor, chapel, store), daily activities, regular bus outings and chauffeur service to doctors, plus 24/7 security and close proximity to Genesys Hospital. Food is generally good and the community is lively, though apartment housekeeping can be inconsistent, medical/care responsiveness has had occasional gaps, and it can be pricey.

    Summary review

Overall impression: Reviews of Abbey Park LLC are largely positive with consistent praise for staff, amenities, and the campus environment. Most reviewers highlight a friendly, caring team and a well-run community with many on-site services and activities. The facility is described repeatedly as clean, bright, and well-maintained, with beautiful grounds and apartments. Its location near Genesys Hospital, 24/7 security, and on-site transportation are recurring strengths that make it attractive to prospective residents and families.

Staff and management: Staff receive frequent commendations for being helpful, friendly, and attentive. Several reviewers specifically named management personnel as doing a great job, and low staff turnover was mentioned as a plus. The medical support team and on-call specialists such as a podiatrist were called out positively by multiple reviewers. That said, a minority of reviews described instances where staff were unaccommodating or unavailable for basic tasks (for example, temperature checks), and there are isolated complaints about inadequate medical assistance for higher-acuity needs. Management is generally seen as responsive and responsible, including handling of COVID protocols by some reviewers.

Facilities and amenities: Abbey Park offers a broad range of amenities that many residents enjoy. Features often listed include a movie theater (with popcorn machine), ice-cream parlor and socials, beauty salon and barbershop, a general store, chapel, library, computer room, billiards room, and a variety of activity spaces. The campus is characterized as bright with ample natural light, tasteful common areas, and ongoing upgrades and renovations. Room layouts vary and reviewers noted options like larger rooms with sofa beds or twin beds, kitchenettes with refrigerators and small stoves, and weekly housekeeping services. Parking and visitor facilities were also noted positively.

Activities and social life: A major strength is the active social calendar. Daily and weekly activities such as exercise classes, music groups, church services, card and board games, and organized outings foster an engaged community. The facility provides transportation for appointments and hosts planned bus trips to casinos, grocery stores, banks, and sporting events. Residents are described as outgoing and social, and the community atmosphere is frequently described as upbeat, welcoming, and peaceful.

Dining and housekeeping: Dining receives mixed feedback. Multiple reviews praise appealing menus and plentiful, delicious meals; others report issues with food not being warm or generally unsatisfactory. Meals are delivered in some service models and the dining area itself is often described as clean. Housekeeping is also mixed: common areas and hallways are consistently reported as very clean, but some reviewers mentioned that apartment-specific cleaning was not always thorough.

Care level and safety concerns: Safety measures such as 24/7 security and an overall safety-focused approach are highlighted positively. However, there are important caveats regarding clinical care. Several reviewers noted that Abbey Park is primarily an independent living community with limited higher-level medical support. A few reviews expressed concern about COVID safety or reported outbreaks, and there are serious isolated complaints about insufficient medical assistance for residents needing more advanced care. At least one family moved a resident to memory care due to dementia progression, underscoring that heavier care needs may require transfer to other settings.

Value and cost: Value perceptions vary. Many reviews call Abbey Park good value or “best-priced,” while others cite it as higher cost or expensive. This suggests that pricing may be competitive for the breadth of amenities and services offered, but may still feel steep for those on tighter budgets or who require more intensive care.

Patterns and recommendations: Consistent themes are strong staff interactions, a rich amenity and activity program, attractive and well-kept common areas, and good transportation options. The main areas of caution are inconsistent apartment housekeeping, mixed dining experiences, accessibility details (cupboard and closet hardware set too high), and potential limitations in medical care for residents with escalating health needs. Prospective residents and families should tour multiple apartment types to check storage and kitchen ergonomics, ask specific questions about how higher-acuity medical needs are managed, clarify COVID and infection-control protocols, and sample meals or review menus during a visit. Overall, Abbey Park appears to be a well-regarded independent living community with robust social programming and amenities, strong staff and management in most reports, and a few operational and care-level limitations to weigh depending on individual needs.

    About Abbey Park LLC

Abbey Park LLC runs two senior living communities, one in Grand Blanc, Michigan at 3221 E Baldwin Road and one in New Hudson, Michigan at 28413 Abbey Lane, and both have studio, one-bedroom, one-bedroom deluxe, two-bedroom, and one-bedroom with a den, and one-and-a-half bath with den layouts in private apartments, all with modern kitchens, full private baths, and plenty of closet space, and even some handicapped-accessible units, so there's a good mix of living options for people who want to stay independent but also want help when needed. Mr. Edward Rosenbaum owns and manages the communities, and he's had the company BBB accredited since August 2010, keeping an A+ rating, which points to a steady commitment to treating people with respect, offering affordable, well-cared-for homes, and making sure staff are responsive, trained, and on site around the clock.

The communities are set up so residents have companionship, planned warmth, safety, and a supportive environment, with lots of indoor gathering spaces, comfortable chairs, fireplaces, and good lighting, plus outdoor patios and landscaped courtyards where people can sit or walk their dogs and cats because pets are allowed, and then there are community features like game rooms, libraries, swimming pools, fitness centers, and organized social events, outings, and learning programs for those who want to get involved. There's air conditioning everywhere, and all the main services-like common areas and activities-are wheelchair accessible, so getting around isn't a big issue, and there's both parking and free transportation if a resident needs to get to an appointment or go shopping.

Abbey Park focuses on several levels of care-independent living for active seniors who want to do most things themselves, assisted living with help for daily tasks and medication, and memory care with secure apartments and special support for those who have Alzheimer's or dementia, using trained staff and routines to minimize confusion and wandering, plus extras like incontinence and diabetic care and non-ambulatory assistance when needed. Besides the main facility support, Abbey Park also offers home care with trained aides who do companionship and non-medical care for those still living at home, and in general the staff keeps up with nutritious meals, daily cleaning, security, and programs for the health, mental, and emotional well-being of residents, all so seniors can enjoy what they want to do, try new social activities, and live with dignity among neighbors and friends in a well-designed retirement community.
