    Compassionate, professional, clean, attentive care

I toured and placed my dad here and I'm very satisfied. The staff are professional, kind, and attentive - they know residents by name and provide compassionate, Christ-centered, family-like care, even in his final hours. The facility is clean, quiet, tucked into lovely grounds with a bird sanctuary; memory care is fully available and activities and music are offered. Communication is excellent with regular updates and meticulous records, which gave us real peace of mind.

    Summary of reviews

Edison Christian Health Center presents as a small, faith-oriented skilled nursing community with a strong emphasis on compassionate, personalized care. Reviewers consistently describe nursing and caregiving staff as caring, attentive, and family-oriented; many families cited specific instances of attentive end-of-life care and ongoing communication. The facility's staff tenure and administrative record-keeping are often noted as strengths, and families commonly describe receiving regular phone or email updates that provide reassurance.

Clinical and support services show a mixed picture. While the caregiving culture is generally praised, rehabilitation services and therapy staffing appear inconsistent: some families described effective rehab outcomes, whereas others indicated minimal or absent therapy support. Memory-care services exist on site but availability is constrained and private single-occupancy options are limited or not offered; families of residents with higher care needs may find the unit unsuitable. Prospective families should confirm current therapy staffing levels, the scope of rehabilitative programming, and memory-care availability during a tour.

Dining and activities receive mixed feedback. Several families described the food as good in quality but repetitive, while others cited dissatisfaction with meal variety or consistency. The activity program includes music, bingo, and crafts and occasional events in an all-purpose room, but activity breadth and daily engagement may be limited for residents seeking a more active schedule. Pet visitation and music programming are positive features that contribute to resident quality of life.

The facility’s physical plant and layout reflect its small scale. Grounds and outdoor areas, including a bird sanctuary, are noted as pleasant and well-maintained, contributing to a peaceful neighborhood setting. Internally, reviewers describe compact, shared rooms, limited private bathing, and dim or institutional-feeling corridors; several comments point to a need for interior updates and improved natural light. Common dining and lounge spaces can feel cramped by wing, which is a trade-off for the facility’s more intimate scale.

Operational concerns to raise on a visit include staffing stability and conduct (including communication tone), out-of-pocket expectations for personal hygiene and toiletry supplies, and billing or insurance coordination issues. A few families mentioned isolated problems with staff communication or social-media interactions; while not indicative of the overall caregiving culture, these comments suggest asking about staff training, grievance procedures, and administrative responsiveness. Cost was described as relatively high by some reviewers, so clarify what is and is not included in the fee structure.

In summary, Edison Christian Health Center is likely to appeal to families seeking a small, faith-centered facility with a strong, long-tenured caregiving staff and close family communication. The trade-offs are a compact physical layout, limited private-room options, and variability in rehabilitative services and meal programming. Prospective residents and families should tour the building, request details on therapy staffing and memory-care waitlists, confirm what personal supplies are expected from families, and review billing and payment procedures before making a placement decision.

    About Edison Christian Health Center

Edison Christian Health Center is a non-profit senior community with a clear Christian mission, focused on care for the body, mind, and soul, and they've got all the basics covered, so residents can get the services needed as they age, whether it's independent living, assisted living, or skilled nursing care for long stays, dementia, or just getting stronger between hospital and home, since that's the kind of thing they do every day. The facility has 136 beds, is Medicare and Medicaid certified, and runs round-the-clock with skilled nursing staff so there's always someone ready to help, which can be a comfort for people who need a higher level of care. Edison Christian Health Center has short-term rehab for folks needing to recover, with therapy services like physical, occupational, and speech therapy, offered every day, plus a Restorative and Maintenance Program that's meant to keep people moving and steady after the rehab ends. For residents with memory loss, there's a 23-bed secure unit called Ritzema Hall, with a safe outdoor courtyard, raised flowerbeds, a wheelchair-accessible swing, and a path for walking or wheeling, so people can get out and breathe a little fresh air. They have on-site dental and eye care, lab services, X-rays, a barbershop, and a beauty salon. Meals are planned by chefs and meal planners, and they have nutritional counseling, with the idea that food should taste good and be good for you, and laundry and housekeeping are included. The rooms are on the smaller side and may feel a bit like a hospital, but each has air conditioning and a television for comfort, and the staff has a reputation for being compassionate, helpful, joyful, and kind. Edison Christian Health Center offers spiritual and recreational activities, aiming to support residents' social and spiritual needs alongside physical care, especially for those with Alzheimer's or other dementias, using approaches meant to be meaningful even when memories fade. Assisted living and independent living options are available within the Christian community, and staff provide help as needed, always with a focus on Christian compassion. The center's patient experience ratings cover everything from nurse and doctor communications to room cleanliness and quiet, and it's been ranked at the top percent for extended care and recognized by the Women's Choice Award for high quality and patient satisfaction, which is based on objective criteria. People can book appointments by phone. There are infection and accident ratings available for different kinds of health events common in hospitals and nursing facilities, though those are not always perfect anywhere, but they do keep up with standards and regulations to protect the residents.
