    Wonderful caring community for mom

I moved my mom in January 2012 and have been very pleased — the community is clean and well cared for, the staff are helpful and genuinely caring, meals are excellent with good variety and preparation, and there are great activities and attentive care. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a mom-friendly facility.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the provided review summaries is strongly positive. Multiple reviewers emphasize the quality of care and the compassion of the staff; words and phrases such as "excellent care" and "helpful and caring staff" appear consistently. The tone indicates confidence in daily care needs being met and suggests family members feel comfortable recommending the community to others.

Care quality and staff: The dominant theme is dependable, high-quality care delivered by attentive staff. Reviewers specifically note that the staff are helpful and caring, which implies responsiveness to residents' needs and good interpersonal interactions. There are no mentions of staffing shortages, poor interactions, or training concerns in the summaries, reinforcing a perception of competent caregiving. One reviewer explicitly states that the community is a "good place for mom" and another planned to move their mom in, which signals trust in the facility's ability to manage the needs of older adults.

Dining and meal preparation: Dining is another strong positive theme. Reviews cite "very good food with nice variety" and "good meal preparation," indicating both quality and range in menu options. Multiple reviewers call out meals as a positive element, suggesting the dining program consistently meets expectations and is an appreciated part of daily life for residents.

Activities, cleanliness, and environment: Reviewers highlight active programming and a clean, well-maintained environment. "Great activities" and "activities available" indicate a range of social or recreational offerings that support resident engagement. The facility is described as "very clean and well taken care of" and a "clean community," pointing to effective housekeeping and maintenance practices that contribute to a comfortable living environment.

Availability and recommendations: One reviewer notes availability for their mom and that a move was planned (January 2012), which serves as a practical data point that the community was accepting new residents at that time and that families were willing to commit. The repeated phrase "highly recommend" underscores strong overall satisfaction and a propensity among reviewers to endorse the community to others.

Notable patterns and caveats: The reviews consistently emphasize positives—care, staff, dining, activities, and cleanliness—without listing problems or concerns. Because the summaries provided are uniformly favorable and brief, there is limited information on areas such as medical/clinical services beyond general care, pricing, pace of activity programming, accommodations for higher-acuity needs, or long-term outcomes. The absence of negative comments in these summaries should be interpreted cautiously: it reflects the sentiment in this sample but does not exclude the possibility of issues not captured here. Overall, based on the supplied summaries, The Jackson Friendly Home appears to be a well-regarded, clean, activity-rich community with good food and compassionate staff, and it was actively accepting new residents at the time referenced.

    About The Jackson Friendly Home

The Jackson Friendly Home, a non-profit community for women over 60, sits in a two-storey historic building designed by Clare Allen back in 1908, though the Home's history stretches all the way back to 1878 when it opened as the "Home of the Friendless" for widows and children of Civil War veterans, and for more than 135 years, they've focused on providing elder women with a safe, friendly place to live when they need it most, especially those who might not have much, and you'll find private furnished rooms, home-cooked meals, and group dining, with people gathering in comfortable sitting parlors to enjoy bingo, crafts, movie days, or Bible study, and sometimes there's special entertainment as well. Residents don't have to worry about maintenance or cleaning, since housekeeping and laundry services happen every day, and the staff-everyone from an Administrator and Activities Director to a Dietary Coordinator and Housekeeping Manager-work around the clock, staying awake so someone's always there to help at any hour, whether it's for medication management, help with dressing, bathing, transferring from bed to a wheelchair, or even managing diabetes, with support available for folks who may have seizure disorders, psychological needs, or developmental delays, and there's even non-ambulatory care for those who need it. Women can keep their beloved pets, enjoy walks on the grounds, and access the on-site beauty salon or podiatry care, and with daily fitness and recreation activities plus a full calendar of scheduled events and devotional services, there's always something to do, and plenty of time to chat and connect in the cozy indoor common areas or library. Folks have a choice of private rooms, always furnished, and meals come included, which means residents don't have to fuss over cooking or food expenses. Transportation's available for outings or appointments, and nearby medical facilities like Tlc Eye Care & Laser Centers and CVS Pharmacy help with healthcare needs. Because it's a non-profit, the Jackson Friendly Home keeps things affordable and depends in part on donations, accepting money, laundry and office supplies, or personal items, which helps support residents including those facing homelessness due to age or health. With a Board of Directors, a caring group of volunteers, and a well-trained staff, the Home works hard to provide honest, quality care, ensuring dignity and respect while supporting independence, and through assisted living, respite care, and services to manage daily living, it truly feels like a family environment for elderly women who need a good spot to call home, all while maintaining the simple traditions that have guided the Home for generations.
