    Compassionate staff cleanliness safety concerns

I had a mixed experience. I appreciated the loving, compassionate and attentive staff, the very clean, well-maintained facility, good meals with variety, useful activities, efficient tour/scheduling and overall comfort and value. However, I also saw serious lapses - medication errors, food withheld from diabetic residents, and inconsistent/incompetent staffing - which left me concerned. I'd recommend only if those issues are addressed.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is mixed but leans positive: multiple reviewers emphasize compassionate, attentive care, describing staff as loving, connected with residents, and providing strong personal attention. Several reviewers explicitly recommend the facility, calling it "best care ever," praising it as well kept, clean, and maintained. Cleanliness is repeatedly noted (including absence of urine odor), and tours were described as efficient and ‘‘awesome,’’ suggesting that the facility presents well to prospective families. Management also receives positive mention: owners are called compassionate and the manager is noted for high standards and attention to emotional and physical care, particularly for residents with memory loss.

Care quality and staff behavior are dominant themes. Many reviewers highlight excellent emotional and physical care, good personal care, and staff who understand memory loss. Positive mentions include quick scheduling, accommodating staff, and frequent assertions of comfort and assurance provided to residents and families. However, there are serious negative reports that indicate inconsistent performance: some reviews accuse staff of incompetence, medication errors, and even withholding food from diabetic residents. These are significant concerns that contrast sharply with the otherwise positive descriptions and suggest variability in care quality that may be tied to specific staff, shifts, or incidents.

Facilities, dining, and activities receive favorable comments overall. The facility is described as clean and well kept, with on-site food and kitchen access. Multiple reviewers say residents are happy with the food, eating well, and that meals have good variety. Meal catering and kitchen availability are mentioned as positives. Activities are offered and noted positively, contributing to perceived value. One physical aspect raised as a drawback is the presence of shared bathrooms in some situations, which some families may find undesirable even though it does not appear to be a dominant complaint.

Management and operational practices draw both praise and concern. On the positive side, reviewers point to compassionate owners and a manager who enforces high standards, which aligns with many accounts of caring staff and good oversight. On the other hand, at least one reviewer reported being negatively affected by mandated weekend shifts and described a generally negative experience—this suggests that some staffing policies or scheduling practices might contribute to staff dissatisfaction or turnover, which in turn could affect resident care. The combination of strong endorsements and serious allegations indicates unevenness: many families have very positive experiences, while others report critical failures.

In summary, Divine Life Assisted Living Center of Lansing is frequently praised for its caring staff, cleanliness, efficient admissions/tour process, on-site dining with variety, and supportive management. These strengths lead many reviewers to recommend the facility and emphasize comfort and reassurance for residents. However, the presence of severe negative reports—medication mistakes, alleged food withholding for diabetic patients, and claims of incompetent staff—introduces a clear risk signal. Prospective residents and families should weigh the predominantly positive feedback about daily care, meals, and environment against these serious allegations and seek clarification on medication management, staffing consistency across shifts (including weekends), bathroom arrangements, and any documented incidents or corrective actions.
