    Unprofessional staff; unsafe, unresponsive facility

I would not recommend this place. I experienced highly unprofessional, poorly trained staff, unhelpful reception, constant unanswered calls/long hold times and management that was unreachable. When I reported verbal and physical abuse/assault of a resident, staff ignored it and appeared to cover it up - communication with families was abysmal. Nice amenities (even a salt-water pool) don't make up for the safety and responsiveness issues; I left/would not send anyone here.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment from these reviews is strongly negative, with repeated and consistent complaints focused on communication failures, management unresponsiveness, staff conduct, and serious safety concerns. While a few isolated positive notes appear (notably a saltwater pool, some mentions of good security, and occasional positive staff interactions), the predominant themes point to systemic problems that reviewers felt compromised resident safety and family confidence.

Communication and management are the most frequently cited problems. Multiple reviews report long hold times, unanswered calls, and phone lines routed only to a recording, making it difficult or impossible for families to reach staff or management. Several reviewers explicitly state that management was unreachable and unresponsive. There are also complaints about a receptionist being unhelpful and about staff refusing to provide names or job titles, which reviewers interpret as a lack of transparency. These issues contribute to a narrative of negligent management and poor organizational responsiveness.

Staff behavior and quality of care generate the gravest concerns in the reviews. Reported issues include unprofessional and rude staff, alleged instances of verbal and physical abuse, and at least one mention of a resident assault. Reviewers say abuse reports were ignored and, in some cases, that staff attempted to cover up incidents. Training deficiencies are explicitly mentioned, and several reviewers describe a pattern of staff not intervening appropriately or failing to protect residents. These accounts create significant safety concerns and form the core of why multiple reviewers do not recommend the facility.

Facility and amenities receive mixed, but limited, mention. The saltwater pool is highlighted positively and described as "awesome" in at least one summary. Security was noted positively by a small number of reviewers. Beyond that, there is little consistent, detailed information about other aspects of the physical plant, dining, or programmatic activities. Several reviews nonetheless use strongly negative language about the facility overall ("terrible," "horrible"), suggesting that for those reviewers negative impressions extended beyond isolated issues.

Patterns across the reviews indicate repeated themes rather than isolated incidents: communication breakdowns, inaccessible management, staff misconduct or unprofessionalism, and alleged mishandling or concealment of abuse reports. The few positive mentions (pool, some staff/security) are outweighed by recurring safety and management concerns. There is also an unusual report of a very small or gender-imbalanced resident population ("only female resident"), which, if accurate, may point to atypical census or admission patterns that families should clarify.

In summary, these reviews paint a picture of a facility with troubling and repeated operational and safety shortcomings. Prospects for new residents or their families should be cautious: verify staff responsiveness, ask for staff names and titles, request clear policies and records on incident reporting and staff training, and directly inspect safety procedures. The presence of a saltwater pool and occasional positive staff/security comments are not sufficient in these reviews to offset the dominant, repeated claims about poor communication, unprofessional conduct, and serious safety-related allegations.

    About Flatrock Manor of Lapeer

Flatrock Manor of Lapeer sits at 300 N Elba Rd in Lapeer, Michigan, and offers living choices like studio suites, private one-bedroom apartments, and semi-private quarters, so you get options depending on what suits you best, and the rooms come fully furnished, have air-conditioning, private bathrooms, kitchenettes, cable TV and phone access, so you don't have to bring much if you don't want to, and you've got the choice of shared rooms or private suites, with enough room for 12 residents in total. This place is an adult foster care facility and assists with daily needs such as getting around, dressing, bathing, going to the bathroom, and managing your medicines, and there's always staff awake around the clock for safety, plus 24/7 emergency response and security systems if you need help fast, which is something people like to know about. Residents can enjoy three meals a day in a main or private dining room, and the menu can handle allergies or special diets, so you don't have to worry about cooking or cleaning because housekeeping and laundry are included, and when you want to stay active or pass the time, there's arts and crafts, cultural events, a chapel, movie nights, an extensive library, a garden and courtyard, walking paths, and lounges for relaxing or visiting.

You'll find a barbershop on site, a parking area, and transportation services to get you to appointments or activities outside the place, and since pets are welcome, you can also bring your animal friend, which can make the days feel less long. Flatrock Manor of Lapeer gives help through personalized care plans and service assessments, so they know what each person needs, and with medication administration, continence management, and a medical practice including special services like Minimum Invasive Cardiovascular Surgery and occupational therapy, health needs are part of the daily support, covering both regular care and more complex issues. There's also case management to keep an eye on overall well-being. With adult foster care and board and care home setups, the environment feels residential and familiar, so you don't feel lost in a big place, and the English-speaking staff make sure people can communicate needs easily. The facility focuses on supporting folks who are mostly independent but could use a hand with meals, food prep, some cleaning, and staying safe, so you don't have to worry about the household chores or feeling alone. Amenities are about comfort and safety, like maintenance-free living, accessible paths, and scheduled activities, whether you love the garden or prefer a quiet spot in the library. The setup supports many different levels of care, letting residents stay as active and social as they like, and the website looks like it runs on Parallels Operations Automation, which shows they're still setting up a full online presence, though that doesn't change how the place runs for seniors in the Lapeer area who need a bit of support but want to stay involved and connected.
