    Homey caring lodge, good value

I toured Shadowtree Lodge and was impressed. The owner/manager Diane and her staff are genuinely caring, hands-on, and welcoming - the small, homey lodge is clean, peaceful, and feels like family. Meals are good and nutritious, there are activities and a communal dining area, private rooms with TVs and call-button lanyards are available, and staffing/doctor access seemed better than my prior facility. It's competitively priced (~$2,900) and good value for family-focused care, though rooms can be small with shared bathrooms and some basement rooms are a bit dark. Overall I'd highly recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive, with frequent praise for the caring nature of the staff and the owner's hands-on involvement. Multiple reviewers name specific caregivers (for example, Diana/Diane and Mrs. Kreiner) and describe staff as compassionate, loving, and genuinely interested in resident comfort. The facility is repeatedly described as a small, family-style adult foster care home that provides a peaceful, healing environment and more personalized attention than larger facilities. Several reviewers say they are happy with placement and would recommend ShadowTree Lodge to others.

Care quality and staffing are the most consistent strengths mentioned. Reviewers emphasize a high level of personal attention, often tied to the home's small size. The owner is repeatedly noted as sweet, involved, and willing to go over and above for residents and families. Staff are described as pleasant, accommodating, and able to manage families' concerns, with some reviewers commenting that staffing is an improvement compared with previous facilities. There are specific positive notes about immediate doctor access in at least one review, and examples of staff responsiveness such as nighttime call-button lanyards and attention to bedridden or higher-needs residents — though this is tempered by limitations discussed below.

Facilities and accommodations are described with mixed but generally positive comments. Many reviewers call the home clean, well-kept, and inviting, with a lodge-like, homey atmosphere and a lovely outdoor space. The communal areas (dining room, kitchen, laundry) and social features like board games and group meals contribute to the sense of community. However, physical limitations are repeatedly mentioned: some resident rooms are small, bathrooms are shared or public for some residents, and certain rooms are on a basement/walk-out level with few windows and limited natural light. Reviewers differ on room size — some call rooms spacious and comfortable while others find them small — indicating variability in the floor plan. Additionally, a few comments describe parts of the decor as dark or dreary, which may affect perceptions of appeal.

Dining, activities, and daily life are portrayed positively. Multiple reviews praise the meals as tasty and nutritious (one reviewer specifically noted real potatoes), and communal dining is noted as a pleasant, social feature. There is an active, home-like schedule with board games and other social activities, which reviewers link to resident happiness and a family atmosphere. The combination of good food, activities, and attentive staff contributes to reviewers’ strong recommendations and sense that residents are well cared for.

Management, cost, and appropriate resident profile are important themes. Reviewers consistently praise management for being accommodating and family-oriented; the owner’s involvement is seen as a major advantage. Price is described as competitive and good value by several reviewers (one listing mentioned $2,900), and the facility is specifically recommended within local areas (Lapeer and Genesee counties). A key limitation repeatedly noted is the lack of 24-hour care capacity, and at least one prospective admission was declined for that reason. This indicates ShadowTree Lodge is well suited for residents who need supportive, family-style care but not continuous, round-the-clock medical supervision. Public shower facilities and shared bathrooms further suggest that the home is best for residents with moderate assistance needs rather than those requiring intensive medical or private-room accommodations.

In summary, ShadowTree Lodge is portrayed as a small, clean, and welcoming adult foster care home with attentive, compassionate staff and an owner who is highly involved. Strengths include personalized care, a home-like atmosphere, good meals, meaningful activities, and strong local recommendations. The primary limitations are structural (room size variability, some basement rooms with limited natural light, and shared bathing facilities) and service-related regarding the absence of 24-hour nursing care. Prospective residents and families should consider their medical and privacy needs: ShadowTree Lodge appears to be an excellent option for those seeking a warm, community-focused setting with good value, but less appropriate for people who require continuous medical supervision or private ensuite facilities.

    About ShadowTree Lodge

ShadowTree Lodge sits on three quiet acres that feel set apart from the busy world, and everywhere you look there are big views and plenty of birds and wildlife to watch, which makes for nice walks along the wood-canopied paths that lead right to a big open clearing where folks like to gather. The building looks like an old log cabin and you really get that up north feeling when you see the stone fireplace where residents often spend time together. The house offers both private and semi-private bedrooms, all of them furnished, and every bathroom is easy to get into if you have a wheelchair, plus they've put in barrier-free showers that help keep everyone safe.

You'll see staff on hand day and night, always trained and ready to help with things like getting around, taking medicine, or handling daily tasks like cleaning and getting dressed, and there's always someone to check in if someone's feeling off. Visiting healthcare folks like doctors, eye doctors, and foot doctors come through regularly so residents don't have to travel far for visits, though there is transportation for appointments, errands, and outings, and there's parking if you still drive. The cooking leans toward simple, home-cooked meals with an eye on nutrition, served in the main dining room or, if the weather's clear, out on the patio so everyone can see the deer or watch the sunset.

For folks who like to stay busy, there are easy exercise programs, help getting outside on the nature trails, and group hikes through the tall trees, and the place puts on different activities-workshops, evening socials, weekend barbecues, even devotional services right on site and a beautician comes in for trims and care. The two stories have ramps and lifts if you don't want stairs, and the whole place is smoke-free and wheelchair accessible. ShadowTree Lodge's staff writes up care plans for everyone, personalizing support to fit each resident, and housekeeping and laundry's handled so there's less to worry about. The home follows state licensing rules, works with LARA Online Services, and puts a focus on keeping things Christ-centered and family-like, treating everyone with respect and kindness, and there's always a feeling that folks can find a bit of peace and quiet, but also people to visit with when they want company.
