    Mostly positive but safety concerns

I placed my mom here and overall had a very positive experience: the facility is beautiful, clean and new, with lots of activities, amenities and generally good food, and the staff were kind, attentive and made her days comfortable - I would recommend it. Move-in was smooth, leadership and care teams were proactive about meds and needs, and the value with services included felt worth it. That said, there are occasional staffing and response delays, front-desk hiccups, and some serious safety/staffing incidents reported (missed call buttons, delayed care/diaper changes, wandering patients, broken mattress/bed-sore risks, even alleged abuse), so families should ask detailed questions about security, staffing levels and incident reporting before committing.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews for Westwood Inn - Senior Living Community is mixed but leans positive in volume: many reviewers praise the facility’s new, clean, and attractive building, extensive amenities, active social programming, and a large number of staff who are described as kind, attentive, and family-like. Commonly highlighted positives include smooth and personalized touring and move-in experiences, responsive maintenance and housekeeping, roomy apartments with modern finishes and full-size appliances, a busy activity calendar (book club, crafts, movies, happy hour, holiday events), and staff who helped residents regain purpose and social engagement. Several reviewers named individual employees (Sonia Mosey, Desiree, Cherie Jackson, Jodi, Justin) and praised their professionalism and personal attention, which contributed to trust and relief among families. Multiple accounts emphasize improved resident wellbeing, active living, and a strong sense of community.

At the same time, a significant subset of reviews raise serious and specific concerns about care quality and safety. Several reviewers report major lapses: broken mattresses, missing call buttons, delayed diaper/toileting care, incorrect diets, and allegations of injuries and bed-sores. There are multiple very serious accusations including resident-on-resident abuse, a resident being dragged and injured, door security failures that allegedly allowed unsafe access, and claims that staff concealed or misrepresented incidents to families. These reports reference harms ranging from injuries to deaths (with varying context) and indicate inconsistent incident disclosure. While not the majority of reviews, these allegations are stark and recur enough that they represent meaningful risk signals rather than isolated nitpicks.

Staffing and service consistency emerge as a clear pattern: many reviewers describe caring, attentive, and professional caregivers and nurses who communicate proactively and resolve issues promptly; others describe careless, inexperienced, or overworked staff, missed calls, and strained responsiveness. Front-desk and back-office performance is similarly mixed—several reviewers commend a professional front office and welcoming receptionists, while others report unhelpful, slow, or even rude reception/administrative experiences. A number of comments point to occasional staffing shortages or busy shifts that produce delays; a few reviews specifically cite high staff turnover as contributing to inconsistent care. Taken together, this suggests that day-to-day quality may depend on staffing levels and which specific caregivers are on duty.

Dining and meals receive mixed feedback: many reviewers praise varied menus, hot meals, and phenomenal food options with multiple dining areas; a contrary thread reports awful food, incorrect diets delivered, and dissatisfaction. This split likely reflects differences in expectations, specific dietary needs, or variability in kitchen service on particular days. Likewise, apartment size and layout receive differing comments—several people report roomy two-bedroom, two-bath units with granite counters and full appliances, while other reviewers mention smaller rooms than expected. These contradictions point to unit-to-unit variability.

Facility amenities and programming are consistently strong themes: reviewers repeatedly note multiple social spaces (lobbies with music, covered outdoor areas, pub/happy hour, library), life-enrichment staff and organized events, salon and gym availability, and helpful maintenance services. Many families credit these features with raising residents’ quality of life and social engagement. The facility’s location and appearance—new, clean, and modern—are also frequent positives.

Safety, communication, and transparency are the most significant recurring concerns and the areas with the greatest divergence in reviews. Positive reports describe proactive family communication, attentive nurses who flag medication issues, and managers who handle problems promptly. Negative reports focus on withheld or inaccurate information about incidents, poor disclosure to families, unexplained delays in care, and alleged neglected safety practices (e.g., unsecured doors, wandering residents). Several reviews describe unresolved safety incidents that led families to lose confidence. These safety-related criticisms are serious and suggest that prospective families should ask detailed questions about emergency procedures, incident reporting, staffing ratios, security measures, call-button reliability, and policies for resident-on-resident incidents.

In summary, Westwood Inn appears to offer many hallmarks of a high-quality assisted/independent living community: attractive, modern facilities; broad amenities and activities; strong social programming; and numerous reports of compassionate, family-like care and smooth move-ins. However, the reviews also contain multiple and sometimes severe allegations of inconsistent care, safety lapses, and communication failures. The pattern suggests variability in performance—excellent care and management at times and troubling lapses at others—likely driven by staffing consistency, specific team members, and isolated incidents. Prospective residents and families should weigh the abundant positive reports about environment and programming against the serious negative reports about safety and transparency, and consider in-person follow-up: visit multiple times, ask to see safety protocols and incident logs, verify call-button functioning and mattress/pressure care policies, inquire about staffing ratios and turnover, confirm how the facility handles aggressive or wandering residents, and request recent references from families with similar care needs.
