    Filthy facility, rude uncaring management

I had mixed feelings - some things were decent and better than other places, but overall it's filthy and feels like it should be shut down. Management is horrible: rude, unprofessional, shares personal drama, cuts off families and shows no compassion. I cannot recommend this facility.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The reviews present a strongly negative overall impression with a few isolated positive notes. The dominant themes are complaints about management and staff conduct and serious concerns about cleanliness and compassion. Although one or more reviewers describe the facility as "decent" or "better than many others," the prevailing tone is that Grovecrest Supportive Care has significant operational and cultural problems that undermine trust and satisfaction.

Care quality and resident experience: Comments about care are mixed but lean negative when context is considered. While at least one reviewer characterizes the facility as "decent" and "better than many others," multiple criticisms point to a lack of compassion from staff. This suggests that, even if basic care tasks may be completed, the interpersonal and emotional aspects of caregiving are deficient. The combination of acceptable technical care (implied by "decent") with poor empathy can lead families to feel their loved ones' needs are not being met holistically.

Staff and management behavior: The reviews repeatedly call out management and staff communication as a major problem. Specific allegations include "horrible management communication," staff who are "rude to families," and "unprofessional behavior." Reviewers also say staff share their personal lives in conversations with families and that management at times "cuts off communication with families." These patterns point to inconsistent professional boundaries, ineffective or hostile communication practices, and a potentially adversarial relationship between leadership and families. Such issues are likely to erode confidence, increase conflict, and make it difficult for families to obtain timely, accurate information about residents.

Facilities and cleanliness: One review uses strong language—"disgusting, dirty, needs shutdown"—indicating serious sanitation or environmental concerns. While this is reported as a succinct, extreme judgment rather than a detailed description, it signals potential health and safety risks that warrant immediate attention and verification. Cleanliness problems, if accurate, are a critical red flag in any senior living setting and can reflect deeper operational shortcomings in housekeeping, maintenance, and oversight.

Dining and activities: The provided review summaries do not include specific comments about dining services or activities programming. The absence of remarks in these areas means there is no clear evidence from these reviews to assess food quality, meal service reliability, social programming, or engagement opportunities. Lack of commentary could mean neutral experiences or that more pressing problems (management, staff behavior, cleanliness) overshadowed these aspects in reviewers' minds.

Notable patterns and concerns: Two clear patterns emerge: first, consistent complaints about communication and professionalism from staff and management; second, at least one serious complaint about the state of the facility's cleanliness. Together these suggest systemic issues rather than isolated incidents. The juxtaposition of one or more reviewers calling the place "decent" or "better than many others" with multiple severe criticisms indicates variability in experiences—some families or residents may encounter adequate routine care, while others face troubling conduct and environmental problems.

Recommendations based on reviews: Prospective families should seek in-person tours focused on observing staff-resident and staff-family interactions, request recent inspection or sanitation reports, and ask for references from current residents' families. Current families experiencing poor communication or unprofessional behavior should document incidents, escalate concerns to higher-level administrators or corporate oversight if applicable, and consider contacting local licensing or regulatory authorities if cleanliness or safety issues seem severe. Management should prioritize communication training, enforce professional boundaries, conduct a thorough cleanliness audit, and increase transparency with families to address the serious concerns raised.

In summary, the reviews show a facility with some potentially acceptable care aspects but overshadowed by serious and recurring complaints about management communication, staff rudeness and unprofessionalism, lack of compassion, and at least one report of unsanitary conditions. These are significant issues that warrant careful investigation before choosing Grovecrest Supportive Care for a loved one.

    About Grovecrest Supportive Care

Grovecrest Supportive Care sits in Pontiac, MI, as a residential care home for seniors wanting a safe and comfortable place to live, so folks can find a spot here that does in-home care, independent living, assisted living, and memory care, and there's a range of rooms like semi-private, studios, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom apartments with private bathrooms, kitchenettes, cable TV, air conditioning, and phone service, so people can pick what suits them best. Prices aren't published except for semi-private rooms at $900 a month and one-bedrooms at $1,500, with other fees depending on the level of care, whether that's low, medium, or high, and they accept private pay, social security, veterans' benefits, and commercial insurance. Grovecrest covers a middle ground for seniors needing more help than complete independence allows but don't need 24-hour skilled nursing, so care ranges from help with things like bathing, dressing, grooming, and moving, to memory care for those with cognitive troubles, plus support with medications and incontinence.

Seniors here have access to on-site staff awake round the clock, nurses on-call, visiting therapists, a doctor on call, and all sorts of health-related services like diabetic care and standby help for folks moving from beds to wheelchairs, and you've got to be at least 60 to live here. The staff aims for compassion, noticing little things and supporting residents in daily life, and each resident has a personalized care plan to meet unique needs. Life here is social, with daily activities like bingo, movie nights, Bible study, arts and crafts, music therapy from local churches, group outings to brunch, volunteer-led church visits, and even pet therapy, with outings to parks and events using the community's transportation or easy access to the busline.

There's a focus on healthy living, so meals use organic ingredients, served restaurant-style in a cozy dining room, with special diets for things like diabetes or allergies, plus daily coffee hours and treats for residents to gather. Residents can spend time in common indoor spaces like activity rooms, a library, a movie theater, and wellness rooms, or step outdoors on walking paths, work in the garden, or visit the on-site salon. Housekeeping, laundry, move-in support, and concierge help keep things tidy and organized, and transportation helps folks get to the doctor or errands. Residents enjoy the quiet setting near local cafes, hospitals, pharmacies, places of worship, and parks, with the whole community designed to support accessibility, including wide elevators and doorways. Grovecrest encourages folks to live as independently as they can while having support close by, so people can feel at home in a place set up for safety, comfort, and a good balance of care and freedom.
