    About South Torch Assisted Living

South Torch Assisted Living operated as an Adult Medium Group Home with space for up to 12 residents, and while the license remains active, the facility status is CLOSED as of October 23, 2024, so folks can't move in anymore, but for those looking back, the facility sat at 5103 N. West Torch Lake in Kewadin, Michigan, with the license held by South Torch Assisted Living LLC. South Torch provided many kinds of care, such as assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, independent living, and even short-term stays called respite care, along with services like in-home care, residential care, and senior apartments, all tailored toward seniors' differing needs and abilities as they aged. The facility set a strong focus on safety, resident dignity, and offering round-the-clock help with daily activities like bathing, dressing, eating, and taking medicine, while dedicated caregivers were always nearby and medical help included diabetic, incontinence, high acuity, and memory care for folks needing that extra support as they aged.

Residents chose private suites, shared rooms, or fully furnished studios or one-bedroom units, many with private bathrooms and kitchenettes, air conditioning, telephone, cable, and Wi-Fi connections, plus ground-floor living with wheelchair access and walk-in showers so people with mobility challenges could get around easily, while emergency alert systems, non-smoking rules, and coordination with healthcare providers added extra peace of mind. Meals got served restaurant-style in the community dining room with options like international cuisine, vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, no sodium, or diabetes-friendly diets, with room service for those who wanted it, and the community made sure residents with special diet restrictions could eat safely and comfortably.

The days could fill up fast here since South Torch had all sorts of activities like art classes, movie nights, BBQs, birthday and holiday parties, yoga and chair yoga, stretching, brain fitness, walking paths, a garden, scheduled outings, community service, devotional programs, and other ways to stay busy-plus there was always a calendar full of events so no one got bored, while in-home hair and nail care, physical therapy, and scheduled transportation for appointments gave added convenience. Besides help with living tasks, laundry and linen service, housecleaning, and move-in help, staff worked to create a comfortable space for residents who did need different levels of care.

The facility only allowed up to 12 residents at any one time, in line with its Adult Foster Care Group Home license issued in Michigan (license number AM050394329), and even though the reported prices averaged around $275, the facility didn't actually publish its pricing anywhere official, and families often relied on the human curation team and the detailed information service to answer their questions when looking at local senior living options, though the review score sat at 1.0 out of 5 and the same rating showed up on customer review platforms. Staff responded to reviews to encourage honest talk, and they kept trying to make life here safe, engaging, and suited for each older adult, aiming to promote independence for every resident for as long as possible. Outside of regular assisted living rooms, there was a separate managing residence with three bedrooms and two baths that got used for managers, owners, or weekly rentals.

Business hours ran from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM on weekdays and 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM on weekends, so staff were reachable for support, and even though the facility's now closed, South Torch Assisted Living tried to give seniors a simple, comfortable place to live, offering different types of care and activities while prioritizing safety, dignity, and community.
