    Highly recommended, caring memory care

I placed my mom at Grace and it's been the best decision - a small, privately owned, hands-on facility where owners and staff know every resident by name. The beautiful, new, home-like apartments, great chef, daily activities, and strong memory-care program with individualized plans (nurse visits, 1:6 staffing) have made her safer, more social and genuinely happier. The staff are warm, attentive and treat residents like family; they're compassionate, professional, and very involved. It's on the pricey side and communication could improve (I noticed occasional lapses and infection-control concerns), but overall I'm grateful and highly recommend Grace.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews for Grace Senior Living Rochester Hills is strongly positive, with frequent, emphatic praise for the caregiving staff, the facility’s design, and the personalized, non-corporate approach to resident care. Many reviewers describe frontline employees as caring, compassionate, attentive, and family-like; individual caregivers and supervisors (several named) are singled out for going above and beyond, attending events such as funerals with families, and being deeply engaged with residents’ daily lives. Multiple reviewers emphasize that the owners are hands-on, visit regularly, and know residents by name—a feature that reinforces the small-community feel and contributes to trust among many families. The facility is repeatedly described as beautiful, new, clean, and thoughtfully laid out, with spacious apartments and kitchenettes that create a home-like atmosphere.

Care quality and memory care are recurring strengths in the reviews. Several families report smooth transitions into memory care, tiered dementia care approaches that allow ramping up support as needs increase, and clinical staff (med techs, care partners, a nurse) who are viewed as professional and competent. Reviewers highlight personalized care plans, responsive adjustments to resident needs, and successful collaborations with hospice when required. The 1:6 staff-to-resident ratio cited by some reviewers and the presence of daily activities and an engaged Activities Director support a picture of active, resident-centered programming: residents participate in exercise classes, discussion groups, games, music, spiritual programming, crafts, and community outings, with monthly Resident Council meetings giving residents a voice.

Dining and amenities receive mixed but generally favorable mentions. Many reviewers compliment a connected chef and describe meals as delicious and nutritious, while others criticize the dining as overly breaded or carb-heavy and rate food quality as subpar. The community offers amenities such as craft rooms, theater access, housekeeping, and on-site health resources; location near the village of Rochester and downtown shopping is also seen as an asset. Several reviews note that the facility feels calming, socially engaging, and well maintained, contributing to residents’ improved mood and family members’ peace of mind.

Despite the predominately positive sentiment, there are notable and recurring concerns that create a less uniform picture. A subset of reviewers report negative staff behavior — ranging from unfriendliness to alleged bullying of a resident — and perceive management as sometimes untruthful or nonresponsive. Communication problems surface repeatedly: families describe slow or no responses to emails and calls, and a few indicate that higher-level administrators only engage after formal notice. Medication management is another area of worry for some families: examples include medications running out, unreliable med delivery, and specific procedural lapses (such as not using alcohol wipes before injections). Reviewers also point to a lack of a patient portal or transparent way to view medical/medication records, which exacerbates frustration for families wanting timely information.

Operational constraints and safety issues are mentioned less frequently but are still significant. Limited nursing coverage (reports of one nurse) and concerns about infection control practices (staff illness spread and inconsistent mask use) were raised by some reviewers. The community’s small size yields benefits (personalized care, engaged owners) but also downsides: limited availability and a perception of being pricey compared with other options. Taken together, the negative comments tend to cluster around administrative responsiveness, medication procedures, and occasional staff behavior or infection-control lapses, whereas praise consistently centers on hands-on caregiving, owner involvement, facility quality, and the active life offered to residents.

In summary, Grace Senior Living Rochester Hills receives overwhelmingly positive marks for its frontline caregivers, memory-care capability, new and welcoming physical environment, and community-focused ownership. These strengths create a strong sense of safety, dignity, and engagement for many residents and families. However, prospective residents and families should be aware of reported inconsistencies: verify medication-management processes, confirm daily clinical staffing levels, and discuss communication expectations with management. If those operational concerns align with acceptable standards for a given family, the community’s evident strengths in compassionate caregiving, personalized plans, and resident engagement make it a highly recommended option for many reviewers; if those gaps are critical, families should seek clarification or consider alternatives.
